Pirates of the Caribbean: 50th Anniversary

So there have been lots of mentions of this in other threads, but I thought I'd start one dedicated to it.

As most of you know the 50th anniversary of PotC is just a few weeks away (3/16 is the first day it soft opened and 3/18 is the official date). We will be in the parks that weekend for my sons 10th birthday and we are all super excited to celebrate his milestone birthday alongside one for one of our favorite attractions.

If anyone has any info or rumors on what events might be planned or even just wants to join in the celebration and talk about the golden anniversary of one of the most iconic attractions in the park, here's the place to do it.



Personally, I'm hoping for some cool 50th merch, especially pins to add to our collection.

yes! I would love something to still be around in May! The way they have been merchandising special products has been sad. I went the third week in October and the specific things I wanted to buy had been sold out since September. Same with MSEP...I wanted those pins but alas...gone within the week with no restock. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some to stick around for the year!

Keep checking the Disney Store online.
The Disney Store has been selling limited edition shirts for various events, only available for a few days -- they take several weeks to ship, so essentially made to order.

I've noticed the fireflies in the first section by BB have been having issues the last few times we have been. There are a lot fewer than I remember and once they were missing altogether. I hope they were able to fix the issue during the refurb.

I will be watching for photos of that anniversary party and hoping there are still some merch left when we get there!

What else do you guys have planned while in the park for his 10th bday? We are 2 adults and a 10 year old boy.

Don't know about any public celebrations, but I have heard that Club 33 is having 4 days of events March 16-19 featuring special entertainment and historical film screening about the attraction in Le Salon Nouveau, a breakfast with guest speakers and an exclusive early morning ride though where Members will learn and experience some sort of behind-the-scenes secrets (perhaps a ride or walk-through the sets with the lights on?) and some other things. I would guess they'll have some sort of merchandise or other goodies to go along with it.

Wish I could go.

We're letting him take a friend and they have all sorts of plans. Jedi Training is high on the list. We've always missed out and with the new check-in system we plan to get there early and secure some spots.

I hope they might still be available when I arrive on 3/30. If not, I'm sure there will be some other cool new merchandise that's announced soon.

FWIW, I asked CMs at the info booth off of the main hub about this on Sunday. Neither had heard anything official. My guess is that if there's anything special planned, Disney is keeping a low profile on it -- for now.

Oh how fun! We'll be there all that week and I was so happy to see it was opening by the end our trip. I didn't realize it was the 50th anniversary. It's our favorite ride!

Hurray, I just booked a day trip to be down there to celebrate the best ride ever! I live near Sacramento and when SW flights finally hit the golden spot for me to use my points I jumped on it and booked it! 6:15am flight down and 9:25pm flight back, same day. I will miss seeing MSEP and RDCT fireworks, but I'll be back in April and can see them then. This quickie is all about the Pirates, lol!

I'll be there on Saturday, March 18 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of POC.

Will be there that weekend. Visiting the parks the 18th, 19th and 20th. Pirates is always a must do for me. Looking forward to it. Expecting lines to be very long but hoping to get on without much hassle.

The last ride anniversary that they acknowledged in the park was Splash's 25th, which they did with a free mini posters for APs for a day or 2. Matterhorn was 55 that same year and they also did a pin for its 50th, but that was all for either milestone. They didn't even bring back the climbers for the 50th. I'm not expecting anything for Pirates other than the pin. I think that if they were going to do a shirt online they would have started the time period to order by now. There is already so much POTC specific merchandise I don't see them adding more shirts, hats, ears for an even more specific date.

I'm really excited too! I even looked to see if I could change my flight to Friday night, but it's too expensive to switch. I hope there is some fun merchandise left on Saturday. I'm sooooo glad that I already made my lunch reservation at Café Orleans! Have fun everyone!!
