The Hollywood Reporter states that director Gore Verbinski is in final negotiations to helm "Pirates of the Caribbean" for Jerry Bruckheimer and the Walt Disney Co. The project, based on the legendary Disney theme park ride, marks the first pairing between the helmer and studio; Verbinski has worked with DreamWorks on the features "Mouse Hunt," "The Mexican" and the upcoming horror feature "The Ring." "Pirates" also will be the first collaboration between Verbinski and Bruckheimer
