Pirates Drop vs. Maelstrom Drop

Which drop is worse? DS hates drops, but I got him to try Pirates last year. He said the drop was bearable, but he didn't really enjoy it. Fortunately, the rest of the ride almost made up for it. If Maestrom's worse, I won't even try. Thoughts?

TIA! :goodvibes

No from my experience Pirates drop is worse. Maelstroms drop is very mild

The Maelstrom drop feels less than the POTC drop.
It's actually more of a slide.
Also, POTC is in the dark, Maelstrom is not.

From one "ride weinie" to another - the Maelstrom is a piece of cake. Your DS will be fine. :thumbsup2

on our trip in May, our 3 year old son rode both POTC and Maelstrom. He seemed to dislike POTC more. We think b/c of the dark. The drop in Maelstrom didn't seem to phase him as much!! Hope this helps!:goodvibes

It has been a LONG time since I have been on pirates. But if memory serves me is that not a really small drop. Not even half the size of the drop for Jurassic park?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it's been awhile. But, isn't Maelstrom's drop backwards?

I think, technically Maelstrom's is more height. Both my children cling the same amount on both rides. So, IMO, the drops feel about the same.

No, Maelstrom does not drop backwards. You do travel backwards for a short distance, and it is designed to make you think you are going to drop backwards, but you do not. POC -- the bigger of the drops within that ride -- is a bigger drop, I believe, than the Maelstrom one.

I am another total ride weenie, and Maelstrom has never ever been a problem for me.

If I remember correctly, neither ride has a lap bar or a similar safety device - which to me says that the drops are minor.

Wow, I do not like roller coasters, but I absolutely love both of these rides. I can't even remember any drops. It has been awhile. My kids will love that their are drops. Yoo hoo 21 days!

I wouldn't really call them "drops", they are more like slides. My son is definitely a ride chicken and he doesn't even comment on the slides in these two rides. If he considered those drops, he would never get on the rides.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Drop length: 6ft

Maelstrom: ?

Jurassic Park River Adventure:
Height: 85ft

Splash Mountain Drop:
Height: The final drop is 5 stories (52-55ft)
Angle: 45 degrees in WDW (47 in Disneyland)

Exactly I hate drops on rides and the Pirates one is not even worth mentioning.

I was beginning to think I was crazy! I distinctly remember that the drop on Maelstrom is way longer than the drop on Pirates at WDW ... although the drop on Maelstrom is also way shorter than the drop on Pirates at other parks (DLR and DLP, never been to any others).

I'm a total ride weenie also and wouldn't even count Pirates as a drop. Maelstrom is a very short drop that only bothers me a tiny little bit so I ride anyway.

Maelstrom is a simple glide compared to POC.
It's no problem now the next step from there is Kali River Rapids then you're on to Splash Mountain!
:cool1:

Remember it's not the distance of the drop ,it's the angle.
I thing maelstrom is a lower angle.
