My DS will be 2 months shy of his 3rd birthday when we spend a week at WDW in May. I think he would really like having his face painted and dressing up like a pirate. Will they really not let him do this because he isn't 3 yet?

Obviously, due to his age, he will have free admission to the parks. We are more than willing to pay for this. Has anyone done the Pirates League with a child under 3?

Thanks in advance,
Melissa

Personally I would wait until I get down there and take him over to the Pirate League and talk to someone there onsite. Let them know the circumstances and if they agree, try to schedule something during the rest of your stay. Because it is May, they will probably have openings available. Also have him take a peek into the make-up room (if you can) to see other kids having it done just to be sure he will be ok with it. My DS6 did this on our last trip and he looked downright creepy (although he LOVED it and it definitely had to be the best $50 I have ever spent). FYI, I scheduled the appointment the last in the day so he wouldn't have to walk around all day in the heat with the make-up (and chance rubbing it off and completely destroying it within minutes).

Also, if you do get something scheduled and he gets scared and won't do it, Disney is great about not charging you for it. My DD had just turned 3 last trip and I scheduled her for the BBB. Well, you'd think it would be fine, right? NOPE. She was terrified to be in there. We left, and they rescheduled for a few hours later in the day to see if we could calm her down. NOPE. After the second try, I asked about the charge, but they said that they don't charge under those circumstances and that it really happens all the time. So, if you do get something set and it doesn't happen, at least you can take comfort in knowing they won't charge you...

I have to say this.......

When it is good for you -in other words -he gets in free, you are more than willing to have him be under 3

BUT

When it is good for you - he gets to do something for kids over 3, now he is 3??

Talk about having your cake and eating it to! IMO make up your mind how old he is.

Hannathy - I know my son and I know what he would enjoy. If Disney charged admission for children under 3 I would gladly pay it. Just as, if they will allow him to do the Pirates League, I will gladly pay for it.

This is not about money. It is about whether or not Disney would allow my son to do something he would enjoy. If the answer is no, we will abide by that. I just don't know why they wouldn't allow it. If there is a reason for not allowing under 3s to participate I would just like to know what it is.

So perhaps, before you jump to conclusions about me and flame me for something, you should understand where I am coming from.

I haven't done Pirate League, but we have done Bibbdi Bobbidi Boutique with our DD. The first time she did it she wasn't quite 3 yet. We kind of wondered the same thing about the age requirement. They didn't give us any issues and didn't question us about her age. I think it really depends on how "mature" they are for their age. HTH!!

WOW!!! Looks to me like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Hope your day gets better! :flower3:

Disney has set the age for the Pirate's League and BBB at 3....just like admission to the parks. They have to set a limit somewhere. It's your decision what you decide to do....but you will have to lie and say that your child is 3 when they're not. They won't make an exception if you'r child is "close to 3". If they start making exceptions it will never stop. Sometimes it stinks when your child is close....but the rules are the rules.

No it is the wrong side of the bed. I'm just tired of rules only apply to Disney. Why must every rule be bent? I'm sure he would like it but they put an age requirement in and people should abide by it. Where do they draw the line?

Thanks DisneyMotherof3. Obviously, if we show up and DS doesn't want to, we won't do it. I really don't think that will be the case.

Get a life.

This doesn't seem to be a safety issue. It is face painting and dressing up for crying out loud. I would not lie about my son's age. If Disney told us we couldn't do it, I would not break the rules. I am just wondering about the reason for it.

Were also traveling in May with my DD who will be 3, 3weeks 4 days before her birthda... I know this will be something that my lil princess will enjoy so I had called and while I was making her reservation I did inform them of my Daughter not offically being 3... She did inform me that it is for Children who are 3 years and older... With that being said then she slyly suggest We change "locations" cause I had origonally wanted to go to the location at the MK... Made appt for my DD at DTD where I was able to get the 1st appt of they day... Yayyy... and the cast member again confirmed that she would be celebrating her birthday confirmed the reservation and I was on my way...

Long story short I don't think your trying to abuse the Disney system... I would still make that reservation and If you were asked when you attend that appt I would inform them then at that moment about the situation... With you being there and as long as it isn't super busy the will still take your son! In really can't see "Disney" refusing your $$$!

One reason they may say under three is because they may worry about younger children's skin breaking out from the makeup. My kids were prone to eczema, etc. when they were younger, but have since grown out of it. I know my daughter's kid makeup often says for ages 3 and over on it. I don't know if they are worried about younger children having a reaction to the chemicals in the makeup or if they are worried that they are still young enough that they may wipe the makeup off their face into their eyes or mouth, which could cause a problem. You know your child and their skin and maturity best. Good luck with your decision and enjoy your trip!

both my boys did this in September. It takes a while and I can't imagine a 3 year old being still that long- my 4 year old who is very mild mannered, got squiggly about 1/2 way through. I thought both boys would love it and they did, during the experience and for about 30 minutes afterward. The make up wore off very very quickly (4 o'clock appt, and it was off midway through a 6 oclock dinner). I am glad that we did it, but wouldn't really do it again. The boys though the same thing. I asked them if they wanted to do it on our upcoming trip and they said no. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they did it, and they are too- but it isn't something we are going to do again any time soon.

All of this is to say that I think that it might be a bit much for him being so young. He might get frustrated and never want to do it again like my boys.

My DS3 did it in December and they never once asked me his age. I didn't even know there was a minimum age! I would probably have taken him on a previous trip when he was 2 if they would have had it then. DS actually loved the whole experience. He is a rambunctious child but was an angel during the makeover which surprised me. He was so good, but about an hour afterwards he wanted the make up off. It did come off easily, except for the eyeliner they used. I would ask they NOT use eyeliner, especially on younger kids. They also let us know that we could come back anytime during the day for a touch up.
