My DD 4 's B-day is soon and we are having a "happy pirate" party. Pirates of the Carib. is too scary for her, but pirates are everywhere. Here's my dilema...I can't find any good "other than Pitates of the Carib." cake ideas. Does anyone have ideas, photos or suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks Annette! What a great link!!

I too am planning a pirate party for my son who is turning 3 in October. Any other idea to share?

I made the pirate ship cake on the family fun site 4 + years ago for some cake event for my son's cub scouts. It was fun to make but a little harder than I thought. My kids' still talk about the pirate ship cake!!! It is too funny that I came across this site because my son was asking if I would make it again for his birthday in Nov.

I haven't looked to see if they have pirates, but the website birthdaypartyideas.com is a great place to get game, cake and other party ideas. I've used it quite a few times. There are many different themes, and people have just written in with ideas they have used at parties.

Thank you, thank you...these are the cutest cakes ever! I think I might try the ship.

A lot of people don't know that you can paint with food coloring. If you mix food coloring with vodka it will paint on a buttercream cake. So my idea is to buy a plain sheet cake & paint a treasure map on it. If you have any artistic talent, it couldn't be easier!

I did beach cupcakes fo DD's 4th birthday. Divide a can of white frosting. Tint one half blue. Frost your cupcake, 1 side with the blue frosting, the other side white. Now roll the white side in crushed graham crackers - instant beach. We topped ours with drink umbrellas.

Before DS decided that he wanted a Buzz Lightyear party, I was about to buy this kit, though not from that website: http://www.bakingshop.com/decor/item/6176.htm

I also saw it at a local store bakery, and they wanted probably what the kit and supplies would cost (only then I wouldn't be able to control the ingredients in the cake), and I was deciding if I should just order it or buy it to make it...and he switched to Buzz. :) Much easier, LOL.

And just in case you want matchy matchy pirate themed plates and whatnot, but haven't been able to find anything non-POTC (or non-cheesy), I found a good middle-ground in the "buried treasure" theme. An example is here: http://www.partywedding.com/viewprod.asp?prodID=7164

My son wanted a Peter Pan Pirate party, but 10 months ago, we couldn't find Peter Pan anything anywhere! I did happen to find a Peter Pan figurine set (I think they sell them in Disney World.) I made a 9x13 sheet cake, then I made a 9x13 pyrex dish of COCOA rice krispies. I cut the cocoa krispies into the pieces I would need to mold a boat out of. I molded the botomless boat (looked somewhat like a rowboat, but it worked), placed it on top of the sheet cake, then stuck the figures in the boat with chocolate frosting on their feet to keep them in place. Frosted the cake "inside the boat/boat floor" in chocolate, too. The rest of the sheet cake was frosted with blue "water" icing. It came out great! You may need some toothpicks to hold the corners in place. Good luck whatever you decide! PS--We had been in Disney 2 months before his birthday, and since I couldn't find Peter Pan invitations ANYWHERE, I took an up close picture of the beautiful mural in Tinkerbell's Treasures Shop ( behind the cash register)for the cover of his homemade invitations. I also had Captain Hook and Smee pose for an awesome photo for the cover of his Thank You cards. (If my son wasn't afraid of characters, I would have had him pose with them!)

I did a treasure map years ago (actually, I had it made), but with a piping bag it isn't that hard. I used treasure map clipart to give to the cake shop.

I just did a pirate party for my dd4 in February. It was such a hit! I agree I used familyfun.com and birthdaypartyideas.com A LOT! I made the treasure chest cake. It was really easy and looked great! My daughter loved it!

My son had a Pirate party for his 4th b'day and he picked out this cake for me to make: http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/spec...nder-birthday/ I practiced a couple of weeks before hand and it was a flop! By the time I was finished icing the cake, chunks had come off and my DH couldn't stop calling it the Titanic. He even put some ice cubes where it had broken and took a picture to send to his grandmother (the best cake maker ever). She said it was cute but I know she was probably giggling inside. I wound up making the Wilton pirate cake http://www.wilton.com/store/site/pro...1508B15ABAD012 It was the first Wilton cake I had ever decorated and it turned out really cute -- everyone loved it. Here is a pic:

I think if you wanted to do this cake and make it girly, you could just make the hair longer and even pipe a little bow in the hair.

Those family fun website have some cute ideas!

How timely ... I just had a birthday party for my 4yo son today and we made the Family Fun birthday cake. I ended up making cupcakes, too, and topped them with blue icing to make it look like water.

The kids loved it! :thumbsup2

Hope it worked for you, OP.

yrs ago (15 yrs?)I made a pirate cake for DS
Baked a basic 9x13 sheet cake. Frosted the top with blue (water) and beige (sand) icing. If I remember correctly I frosted the side beige and piped a blue boarder. Used cheap dollar store pirates that came wiht a little sip. Put the pirates on the isnland and the ship in the water.
