This may need to be on the collectors board, but I wanted to have some of the DL regulars view my question as well.

Is pin collecting at DL like it is here at WDW? If so what pins are valuable out there, should I run over to WDW and pick up some WDW attraction pins or resort pins?

THanks

George

Pin collecting is the same...when we were there last week, we saw numerous trading posts around the parks, in Downtown Disney, and around the hotels.

I'm not into pin trading myself, so I can't tell you what is or isn't "valuable." But I imagine that pins which are geared specifically to WDW would be a bit more "rare" on the west coast, and highly prized.

But that's just a guess.

As someone who trades almost every weekend at DL (I know I need a life) Pintrading is popular but nowhere approaching the craze that it is in WDW. You have your pin carts scattered arround but the place to do all your trading is right inside Disneyland Main Street to the right of the Showcase store. Some of the valuable stuff right now is the Main Street Electrical Parade Pins the pins from the pin events at each park, the Hat pin series and thing pooh or tinkerbell seems to trade well. The newer the better. Another positive about Dland Pintrading is we have an incrediable amount of Tokyo Pintraders who are willing to do anything for Disneyworld pins. I had one gentleman offer me an entire set of Party Express (6) pins for one F.I.R.S.T. robotics pin from 1999. I'd definetly pick up a few Disneyworld pins for that purpose...

Very Interesting, indeed.

When we were there 2 weeks ago, I did notice some pin carts, but I didn't see any 'traders' to speak of.

One day, there was a line out the door of some place...must be the place that swingingMike mentioned...and the line went around the block!!!

One of the CM's said that someone was there signing pins...or something like that. This was the only 'pin trading' craze we noticed. ;)

Now that you mention people willing to trade for Tokyo pins...I can see how that might get a little wild. ;) ;)

Have fun... :D

That long long ling was for the Fourth Annual Disneyana Shop Celebration LE of 2000 pin....I don't understand why there was such a line it was an ugly pin...Oh BTW The only heavy pintrading that goes on is during the weekend..During the weekdays don't even bother bringing your pins...

I am not into pin trading at all, but when we were at WDW in December my son collected quite a few. When we went to Disneyland in March, I brought his lanyard. Turns out, he wasn't into it this trip, so I decided to wear his lanyard. I got stopped quite a few times by traders who noticed my pins looked "different". There was quite an interest in Disney World pins. So, I would definitely bring some pins from the "World" to the "Land".

There were pin trading stations, and CMs with lanyards, but, generally, the pins they were wearing for trade weren't very exciting.

I was looking for Disneyland specific pins, Disneyland attraction pins, etc. Things that would prove that I had actually been to DL. Most CMs were wearing rather generic character pins only.:(

Saw no real pin traders anywhere.

Did trade for one interesting Tokyo pin that a CM had gotten from a Japanese guest a few minutes earlier.

All of the CMs were very interested in my WDW pins on the lanyard - but most had nothing I was interested in getting in return.

As of May 2nd a completely new set of rules went into effect that dramatically improved the quality of CM lanyards. Some are from the rules before but the top 5 rules are different and/or new:

The general rule on what constitutes a tradable pin is that it is a cloisonne, semi-cloisonne or hard-enamel metal Disney pin, or an acceptable operating participant pin, that represents a specific Disney event, place or location, character or icon.

Only participating pins that show a Disney, Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort affiliation will be accepted for trading.

Disney Service pins, Spirit of Disneyland Resort pins and Disney language pins will not be accepted for trading.

Counterfeit pins and lower quality pins (e.g., plastic pins, rubber pins, other non-metal pins, epoxy-coated pins, etc.) will not be accepted for trading.

If there is any doubt as to whether a pin is tradable pursuant to these rules, the trading Cast Member shall make the final determination.

Pins should be in good, undamaged, tradable condition.

Trade one pin at a time, hand to hand.

For safety, trade pins with the backs attached.

Please refrain from touching another person's pins or lanyard. If you need a closer look, ask the person wearing the lanyard if they can bring it into clearer view for you.

Certain pin sets must be traded as sets. If a single pin from the set does not complete the intended picture or statement alone, such as carded pin sets, all pins in the set must be traded as one pin.

"Name pins" may not be traded with Cast Members. This includes Disney name pins.

When trading with Cast Members, Guests should offer a pin that is not already displayed on the Cast Member's lanyard.

Monies or gifts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a pin.

Guests may only trade one pin of the same style with a Cast Member.

Above all ... Have fun!! Pin Trading can be a great way to interact with and meet Cast Members and their Guests.

I agree with the post about not bothering to bring your pins during the week. We just returned from staying at the GC, Wednesday through Saturday. The kids had a wonderful time trading w CM's during the week (they really got into it this trip), but I really couldn't find any guests trading. My pins aren't "hot" enough to get into the heavy hitters in the pin trading area, so we just stopped by and looked. Anyhow, on Saturday (our check out date) I left my pins with the bellman. Later in the morning at DL...I realized that was a big mistake, as there were a number of guests trading. So, I went back and got my pins, and took them into DCA with us where I made several trades with guests that I was really pleased with. So, bring your pins on the weekends for sure!

You mean I will be hauling my pin bag around with me for nothing?! ;)
Well, we are only there Tuesday-Thursday. But still looking forward to it!
We have decided to hit DTD before catching our Saturday afternoon flight.
