I wasnt sure where to put this but did here for 2 reasons - 1 i saw a post from a disney store employee on this board and 2 i was trying to be frugal so thought maybe the budget board. So bear with me if this was totally the wrong place.

I wanted my daughter (and therfor my son as well)to participate in pin trading as more of entertainment than as collecting. So I figured a couple of pins, maybe one per day (7 days) at absolute most. But atleast 6 bucks a pin that was gonna be too much with all the other costs. So I went on Disney Direct and found the sets of pins 6 for 25. Got 2. Managed to get 15% off and free shipping. So now i have about $45 in pins and guess what I cant trade them, atleast as far as I can tell I cant. These seem to be not made of metal. And I found out after I got them they have to be metal. And that if they were purchased as a set they must be traded as ONE pin for ONE pin. So I was going to send them back but they told me I could return them at disney store. Does anyone know if the Disney stores have a selection of THE RIGHT KIND of pin. and does anyone have any suggestions on how to get in on this cheaply considering I only have 2 weeks and counting on ebay to arrive is not going to happen.

Try posting your questions on the Collector's Board. That's where you'll find lots of information on pin trading.

If you are driving to WDW it would pay to make a stop at the Premium Outlet Mall on Vineland. They have usually have trading pins for $2.99 and 3.99 each. The kids will have a great time trading with the cast members. Just be careful, it can become very addictive! Have a great time!!!!

Which set did you get? I was going to buy the Disney Cuties (?) because they were selling the same ones in the park for $6.50 ea. I would also bet that any CM that has a couple of kids walking up to them to trade pins wouldn't hesitate with any of the pins you got from DisneyDirect. Just keep them. You might want to look for Energizer AA batteries that have collectible Disney pins. It was posted on another thread that they are available free inside the package. The promo is listed on Disney's official pin trading website so it looks like they would be traders.

Even though they are a set you probably can still trade them as separate pins. As long as they are able to stand on their own, meaning if they are connected to make one big pin then you have to trade as one but if they are just a few characters that came in a box set then you can trade them separately. I am not sure what pins you bought but if they are the cutie pins, they are tradeable. They are enamal and I had no trouble trading them last year. What cm's don't like are plastic pins. Also they must say disney on the back which they would if you bought them at disneydirect. Also at the disney store in my area, they have one type of pin for sale, stitch, and it is $4.50 a pin.

I just saw your post. Last week my husband and I ordered trading pins for our kids to trade on our upcoming WDW trip from mousepinsonline.com. They shipped our order that day and we received it three days later. The pins are ©Disney pins and are tradable anywhere Disney pins are traded. The pins look great and we are happy with their service. They even threw in a hand held battery operated fan for free. You may want to take a look at this site. Have a great trip.

Thanks for all the input.

I got the cuties set and the cabileros (sp?) sets. The reason I picked those was the fact that the kids arent a bit interested in them so they wont mind trading them away. I'll have to consider this I just hate to get down there and be turned down. I guess without telling the kids I could ask a cm about them and if it worked then give them to the kids. If it doesnt they can still get a few pins. I thought of this as more of something they could do around the hotel, not at the parks. Hopefully they wont need many.

I am planning on getting them the book for the pressed pennies and the passport whatever it is at epcot and they both have scrapbooks for autographs i just wanted some relatively cheap things to keep them occupied at some of the times that can be a bit more boring. But since I'm buying all that and for 2 kids I figure I really gotta put a limit on those pins. They saved about $250. Of which all this comes from and I'd like them to still have some to buy something with. scrapbooks 3.99(walmart almost exactly like the ones at michaels for 7.99), penny money 25.50 each I dont even know how much the other books are but lets say 8 each. So already I'm up to about 90 not counting pins and lanyards and there are some other things tucked away that hubbie and I agreed would come from there money. I just love spending someone elses money. We had discussed just deviding up the money for each day but decided they might just be a little to young for that, so I'm just spending away lol.

I do not know why either of those sets would not be tradeable. I won the cuties set and they are metal and they are stamped disney on the back and are park tradeable.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Try this site.

It's the offical Disney pin site. It might be hard to pull back on the pins if your kids get into them. Once I got my first pin I never looked back. But if they get into pin trading. A good thing to do would to be just buy pins while your at Disney or just before you go. If I got all the pins I liked year round I would never have any money left. There are alot of fun. Trading with the CM's is always fun. Your kids should really enjoy it. :wave2:

I'm sure a lot of the sellers would be willing to work with you on shipping them express. As long as you are willing to pay for them...

Good luck! :D
Thanks for giving out this link. I've been looking on Ebay, but all the pin lots kept going for over $3.00 a pin plus their shipping. I know this is still cheaper than in the parks but I was looking for a deal!!

I found a great person on Dizpins (Wonderment77) selling a large selection for only $3.00 ea with very reasonable shipping. I got to choose which ones and how many I wanted too. Now I don't even have to bother with bidding and losing LOL. I emailed her and she answered faster than most Ebay sellers!

Thanks again, now I have one more pre-trip task taken care of.

No problem...
Glad to help.
I would tell people to check out the dizpins board when buying traders pins before ebay just because there are usually better deals.

I hope your kids have fun with their pin trading experience. It could get very addictive...

Oh and just a little note, CMs wear green and pink lanyards to trade specifically with kids. The kids of course could trade with ANY CMs they want, but the green and pink ones are just for them... :goodvibes

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
And I'm glad you got your trader pins.

Have a great tim!!! :teeth:

Another great place to pin trade is Downtown Disney. There is a great pin location there that sells pins and all the CM's wear lanyards to trade. There are some big pin traders that hang out outside the building but they usually are looking for special limited edition pins. They also do pin trading in the World of Disney store.

If you will be in Disney on a Friday night they do pin trading in the Contemporary - on the same floor as Chef Mickey's. They have a whole kids trading section where they have a large board and kids can trade off this board. You will be amazed at the amount of some pins pin traders have.

When we started this a few years ago, we just decided to get pins from resorts we have stayed in, rides and attractions we like and places we eat. My boyfriends son was about 12 at the time and he wasn't crazy about riding Splash Mountain. We told him if he rode the ride we would get him a Splash Mountain pin. Well he rode it and loved it.

We the 50th Anniversary going on now, there are so many great pins to celebrate this.

Happy trading and collecting.
Linda

I bought the kids a couple sets of pins last year when Disneystore.com had their semi annual pin sale & it worked out to a little over $2 a pin after free shippin & the 10% on top of the almost 75% off. :) :) :) The CMs on DCL were VERY excited to get these pins & said that they would be traded quickly since they weren't seen very often. A couple of the sets were the advent ones. I ordered more this year & have them put away for our next trip. They do have the Disney copyright on the back & there shouldn't be any problem with your kids trading them.

We bought pin sets from Disney Direct before our spring break trip this year, and traded them with no problems.
