My DD and I like to trade pins with the CMs. I am looking at purchasing some off of ebay. The ones I am looking at are made in Spain, it says they have the Disney logo on them. My question is has any one bought these and are they tradeable at DisneyWorld? Trading pins is still going on right?
Thanks

I bought some off of ebay, I didnt want to miss out since they give you a lanyard and one pin... but I didnt want to buy a bunch at $7 - $10!!

Well of the ones I got 3 were plastic, and I wouldnt let DD trade those, some didnt have the mouse backing, so I got a bunch of those,

DD wanted the Princess Pins, so she always checked the CM's, they were always so kind to her, and when she made the trade (btw she couldnt stand the feel of the lanyard and made me wear it, but she chose which to trade) many times the CM said to keep the MM backing - as their pins just had regular backings...

all in all the whole pin trading scene is beyond me!! *grin

The last trip we were on we were given two lanyards and several pins. Of course after that we thought we'd just go to DTD and each pick out one to remind us of our trip. I have a feeling this will become something we do every trip.

I don't really understand the whole pin trading thing. I just want to wear my lanyard to show off my pins but I'm afraid to because I don't want people coming up to me expecting me to trade! :confused3

I wore my lanyard with several pins during my 8 day trip and not once was I approached by anyone to trade. I think you are more likely to be requested to trade if you show up at the pin trading stations with your collection in tow obviously showing that you want to trade.

Thanks, maybe I'll be adventurous and wear it out the next time!
:D I just didn't want to seem rude if someone approached me and I said no! I'm just not up on my pin ettitque! ;)

Lucky, it is more probable that a child might approach you and ask to trade. Most of us "hard core" traders go to the pin trading nights or to DTD by PinTraders. We trade with CMs but don't usually approach guests. We always find time to trade with kids, though! I have one lanyard that I carry that is strictly to trade with kids.

If someone did approach you, it is perfectly okay to say no. Not every pin on someone's lanyard is for trade. We respect that.

Disney CMs and most pin traders will trade pins marked "Disney" on the back for similar pins. For example, you can trade a metal/cloissone pin for a similar one, but not a plastic pin for a metal one. The CMs wearing lanyards can help you out and you can get some good advice at any Pin Trading Station or cart. I highly recommend talking to the CMs that staff these locations... they can often clue you into what's "hot", what's just been released, etc.

As for trading... don't be too scared to wear your lanyard/pins. If you are not interesting in trading, but only displaying what you have, when someone approaches you, simply say, "These are just for display, thank you" or "I'm not interested in trading these; they're keepers". People understand that ... usually my "traders" are on the left; "keepers" on my right. So when someone asks, I just tell them that. Saying "no" is perfectly acceptable. After all, they are your pins.

I trade mostly with CMs ... mostly at pin stations. I'll ALWAYS trade with a child and they can pick a "keeper" or a "trader" from my lanyard. Pin trading for them should be a magical experience... and I can usually replace the "keepers" with a little effort.

Thanks for the help! I never thought I would ever really be so interested but right now I feel I've been "hooked" and I'm slowing being reeled in! :teeth: Great advice and tips...thanks again! :wave2:

I love to pin trade. You can really meet some interesting people this way. The only time I have been approached is by children. Now I make sure I have pins on my lanyard that I will trade with children. T he first two times I only had keepers and the looks on their faces, I dug into my extras and gave them one.

You do know that is a CM has a green lanyand on it is for trading with children only. I think this is a great idea. We personally have seen people refuse to trade with children, telling them they did not have anything they wanted. The funny thing is my Granddaughter had a pin and at that time we did not know anything about it. If she had gone up to this person and asked and they had said no they would not trade with her, they would hyave missed out on a very rare pin. So you never know.

It is a lot of fun to do and you can really get addicted to it.:yo-yo: :yo-yo:

If you go to the collector board there is a long thread on Sedesma pins. They are getting tougher and tougher to trade.

I do love discussing pins with some really nice people but sometimes I get people trying to trade a newer pin for an old one pretending they do not know anything about my pins values ... I think some believe since I'm young I don't know the worth of them.

One guy was trying to trade me a Millionaire Play It pin for one of my tomorrowland pins from 1981 ... that just didn't seem fair to me

I rarely take my pins to DL anymore b/c I don't like people trying to trade with me ... mostly b/c I'm really shy :o ...

so for me it's just easier not bring them into the park

So, Have any of you guys made a trade you wish you could take back?

AStarOnMars, I am one of those you would not like to see coming. I really don't know the value of the pins. I just trade for Eeyore pins and any I think are cute. That's why I only trade with CMs because I am afraid I will offer one that does not cost as much as the one I want. There are so many it confuses me.
:confused3

I would never be rude or bite someone's head off for a bad trade ... me= very shy ... but I can tell the difference between a psycho hobby trader and a fun hobby trader.

I get easily confused with all the pins as well ... I only know the values of my family pins .. that way they won't bite my head off for trading them ... lol .. other then that I'm clueless

CoolDisneyCat, I will have to be honest, I never looked in that forum. Now, don't I feel stupid.
Thanks for telling me about the forum.:)

I'm going to move this to our collector's board for you.

Katholyn

Thanks for moving me Katholyn, as I said before I had never looked at this forum. Anyway, I think my question was answered. I am still not real sure about buying the ones from Spain. I probably wouldn't even know if I was trading a cheaper pin. As I said before I look for those that are just cute to me or Eeyores. But I can't go alot of money for pins, so I guess I will either have to quit trading or hope I get a good deal on some. Thanks for all of the info. :scratchin

The Spain (Sedesma) pins are kind of a crap shoot. I hear they won't trade them at all at DL and there are plenty of CMs that won't trade them at WDW either. I have also heard of people who have had no problem trading them. I know you can get them really cheap especially if you buy them in bulk but I am shying away from them. I have about 30 for trading right now but when/if I trade them all I won't be buying any more. Clear as mud right?

I am not sure whether they are good to trade, though, if they have the Disney Mickey Mouse ear backing they should be good. I know I had a pin with Aurora on it that I traded from a CM that was in French and didn't have the usual texture or backing, but it worked. Yes, they are still trading at WDW. At least this will be bumped back to the top so someone who may know may see it.
