Pin trading- mostly for kids, or adults too?

Okay, I know that many adults trade/collect pins, and that pretty much every adult on this board is going to say "I'm an adult, and I trade pins!" What I'm really wondering about is how common is it for adults to trade pins at the parks?

I like the idea of collecting pins, but neither DW or I are very outgoing, and we're not really looking to do a lot of trading. However, we will be at WDW by ourselves (no kids) this summer, & if half of the adults who are waiting in 90 min. lines at rides are trading pins, will we wish we would have bought lanyards and collected pins? Or, is pin trading itself mostly for kids?

You Will Wish you would have bought lanyards! In my experience I see more adults trading than kids!

There is not that much trading going on between guests - I do not ever recall trading with another guest while waiting on line. You trade with Cast Members.

There is trading between guests at some of the resorts (All Stars on Thursday night and Contemporary on Friday night), and every night outside of Pin Traders at DTD, and the majority of people there are adults.

:goodvibes Take your pins with you or you might be sorry. I do
collect pins but don't trade them any more. I went to a pin trading
event at one of the resorts and these people scare me. :lmao:

I do like to trade with the kids but always ask what they want and
tell them to give me what they want to. This way we both have fun.

My whole family has been trading for a number of years...and i for one have just discovered that there is a wealth of information regarding the coveted Disney pins...so here I am! Love this message board!

So if guests only trade with CMs, do CMs have interesting pins to trade for? I would assume that the really cool pins aren't available from CMs.

Are you sure you gave the right address? This is not a message board.

Interesting pins are in the eye of the beholder :)

DD13 can spot a Limited Edition pin on a CM lanyard from 100 ft. away. Yes, they sometimes have interesting pins. I've looked at lanyards that didn't interest me at all and DS found something he liked. So, you can't tell!

What's really cool to one person is boring to another!

Enjoy pin trading :bounce:

I would never go without my pins! :cool1:

My DW, myself, and my DD7 all pin trade with the CM's. I just started my Mother(64) on trading this year and she had a blast :rotfl2: ! I have only traded with other guests in the park a couple of times. Last week when we were trading at WDW with the CM's we wound up with two LE's and 3 Cast Lanyard pins!! The one thing I would suggest is that you always be polite to the CM's, always wait in line and always ask to see the pins (do not grab at the CM's lanyard they will show it to you once asked) when speaking with CM's last week those were the main complaints from them about pintrading.

One CM actually took a pin off her lanyard and just gave it to my DD because she had been so polite to her. :wizard: Many CM's are now wearing the squares at the waist with the pins on them, so watch for those also.

We had many pins on our lanyards when we went last week and it made it even more fun because some of the CM's would stop us to look at our pins. :woohoo: :cloud9:

Go anywhere on Disney property without my pin vest and lanyard????

Heracy!

I may not always have my pin lanyard on but I almost always have pins....

I'm never without my pins and I'm approaching "senior" status. You never know who you will run into that might have a pin you want.

My 10 year old cousins got me hooked last year on the whole pin thing. I didn't know pins were for trading since I only go once a year if lucky  Anyways, I bought 2 lanyards (one for each kid) and I will try to build up their collection/trade until they're old enough to do it so they will have a sizeable start. In the meantime, I get to have fun doing it! :goodvibes

We are in our mid-late 30's. My dh enjoys collecting the CM Lanyard Series (although I think they won't be called that much longer), and I enjoy collecting "memorabilia" pins. We do trade cause sometimes we find one that we really want...dh found a Bedknobs and Broomstick pin for himself (his first ever Disney movie), and he also snagged me a Sword in the Stone pin (my 2nd most fav Disney movie), and ds traded with a CM for an Elliot The Dragon Pin because he knew I wanted one (had only been talking about it for 3 days!) :thumbsup2 For dh and I, the pin trading is a cheap way to really enjoy some memories for us. And yeah...it ain't all that cheap! ;)

Adding...just cause I kinda left y'all hanging...Pete's Dragon is my ALLLLLLL time fav Disney Movie!

Trading is fun and a social outlet. We used to go to the parks and we were in our own little world. Since we started pin trading we talk with Cast Members and guests and besides being a nice conversation starter we have made friends from all over. Sometimes I wear lanyards and sometimes I don't, but I always have pins and frequently trade while in the parks.

So my question is what would happen if you were looking at a Cast Members Lanyard and did see an interesting pin? It doesnt hurt to take a few pins along, you can also always trade with other guests in the evenings at DTD, thursday at All-Stars, or Fridays at the Contemporary.

We are taking our first trip to WDW at the end of May. Just wondering if the pin lots on ebay are eligible to use as trading pins or not? Was thinking of getting some for my DD1 (5) and DD2 (3) to trade. Maybe DW too as she is the biggest WDW fanatic in the family. Also where can I get the proper lanyard to get them started?

Thanks!!
