Pin Pet Peeves

My number 1 pin pet peeve is about people who wear a lanyard full of pins at the parks just to show them off. My thinking is if you wear your pins on a lanyard they are for trade. If you just want to show (not trade) people your pins keep them in a binder or bag.

I agree!! I surely wouldn't being wearing my lanyard if I didn't want to trade my pins. I hate it when I get a "lanyard tan" on the back of my neck.

Aaahhhhh.... The old peacock lanyard debate.
If I plan on keeping a pin, I don't wear it on a lanyard. My concern would be having it fall off and be damaged or lost.

Aw, c'mon. Some people are just into the whole "pin collecting" thing and want to show off the pins that they think are cool. I like to chat it up with those kinds of folks about thier pins ... im my mind that's almost as much fun as pin trading itself.

showing off our pins is un. I keep my bag full of traders and my lanyard has some keepers and some traders.....but it is not a problem if people like to show off there pins on their lanyard. BTW......I use those little pin backs that needa L wrench to put them on.........those little pin are not going anywhere. lol

Gotta agree with Robin and Barbara. I have no problem with people wearing their "keepers" if they want to. I have one pin that I wear almost all the time, because it is my absolute favorite pin and I enjoy it. And, as Robin said, it's just as much fun to chat with someone about the pins that they are wearing and plan to keep as it is to trade. For me that is the whole fun of the collecting/trading thing, anyway, is to meet people -- and I can do that whether they are trading or keeping the pins on their lanyard.

People wearing their keepers does not bother me. I don't assume that a pin is for trade until I ask. Tooo many people are unaware of this "custom" so I ask if they are trading first if they say yes then I go from there.

I just looked at my lanyard. Of the 15 pins, 6 are not for trade, I wear them because they have some significance to me: 3 Caballero anniversary pin because I am one of the 3 Caballeros....and Dom; my green DIS pin trader pin; James and the Giant Peach, bestowed upon me when I joined the Peach Society; my name pin; my interactive pin because it is so much fun; my DVC 9-11 commemorative Mickey flag pin because it was given to me by a special pinpal and because of the day I hope we never forget. I agree with most of the people who posted here, I think it is fun to show off some pins on your lanyard. I never assume all pins on a lanyard are for trade (except on a CM lanyard)...I always ask and have no problem if a person says only some are for trade. That comment usually leads to a long conversation about the pins which to me is just as much fun as the trading!
