Can anyone make some suggestions on good "budget" rental places to rent thru. We're looking to take a vacation and spend max of about $150 +/- night(minus would be better would love to spend less than $1,000 - the less we spend on accommodations the more we have for activities.) We're thinking of staying in the area as the kids really love to visit national parks but don't know where to stay. Would love some suggestions on which rental agencies are best and which to avoid. Or am I better off with VRBO or Homeaway or? Any tips would be appreciated.

We definitely want a cabin. I don't want a condo as DH always then fusses at the kids about making noise - don't want to be walking on tiptoes and straining to hear the TV all week.

We used Bear Camp Realty and Cabins last January and were happy with what we got.

I don't have enough posts for a link - bearcampcabins dot com

You might try eaglesridge.com and blackbearlodging.com. Both offer a lot of specials depending on the time of year.

Thanks for the links guys. Is Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg better or is there no difference? Or are there any locations I should avoid?

Basically, this really depends on whether you will spend more time at the Smokies or Dollywood.

Gatlinburg can be very congested and I wouldn't want to go to Pigeon Forge every day and back again from there. Also, I think there is more stuff to do in Pigeon Forge, at least for us.

Going the other way, I think Gatlinburg can be more romantic and they have better shopping and quaint restaurants.

hearthsidecabinrentals.com is my favorite place. We have used them several times and never had a problem.

We will be spending more time in the smokies than Dollywood. My kids are all Scouts (Oldest DS just finished his Eagle) and they love the outdoors. We went to Acadia and spent all our time hiking and biking. We might go one day to Dollywood. We'll probably go white water rafting one day as well.

Last summer we stayed at Gatlinburg Town Square in a 2 bedroom condo. We were able to trade our timeshare to stay here. It was walking distance to Gatlinburg. It was a good base to explore the Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg can get very congested, but there is a bypass if you look on the maps. If you are looking for hikes, there are many day hikes to waterfalls that are nice. Also the Cades Cove Loop is spectacular. Lots of local pancake restaurants too.

We just went to Gatlinburg in November for the first time. We used Mountain Rentals and paid about $150 per night for a very large private 3 bedroom hand hewn log cabin. It was decorated with antiques and up in the mountains in Gatlinburg. We loved it there and had no issues with the home or rental company. Everyone's taste is different but I was glad after some research that we did not stay in Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg just seemed so much more serene and charming although it was still busy with traffic but not as bad as Pigeon Forge. We also wanted to be closer to the National Park and wanted to be up in the mountains during our stay.

I can't remember the name of the company we used but I have to share the name of the cabin we rented. As we were reviewing the list online we knew it was the one for our Disney fanatic family. It was called Bear Necessities.:goodvibes
