Pierced Kittens?

They tag cows ears. They tag wild animals for research & tracking. While I don't like that either, we pierce humans ears & other body parts. How is this different? (Not saying I think its ok, I just don't see how its different.)

Cats have a number of nerves and veins running through their ears. If they pierce in the wrong place, that can cause a lot of problems for the cat.

I wanna know how the lady did this with out having her eyes clawed out.... I can't even clip their nails yet alone put holes in their ears... And I wish I would have had my girls ears done when they were small, both want them done but are afraid of the pain, both of my boys are "done" .. just in case ya wanna call the cops on me or something.

Sadly, I wouldn't put it past her to give them some kind of sedative on her own. She obviously cares nothing for the welfare of these poor animals.

I wondered the same things too. Maybe she had someone hold down the cats or somehow sedated them.

Cattle tags are used for identification and medication (fly tags). Like the subq. fluids, they serve a medical or management purpose rather than being a way to make a sale on ebay. Btw, is it just me or does the gage on those earrings look huge?

Neither babies or kittens need bling in order to make them look better. They're both pretty damned cute on their own. The bling, in both cases, detracts from the cuteness. (IMO)

But if people want to bling up their babies and kittens, I don't see it as any of my business.

I suppose you are right. It is illegal (and IMO rightfully so) to disturb an eagle's eggs, but legal to get an abortion.

That's because eagles are an endangered species.

Although I think it's kinda cute when itties have their ears pierced, I can't even fathom doing it to a baby, especially sicne I've recently learned that it is much better to do it properly with a piercing needle, rather than the "gun" they use at some doctor's offices (my ped is the one that pierced my own ears when I was 4) and at the mall places. I can't even imagine doing it to my kid at the same age that I had it done!

Actually most pediatricians who pierce ears use sterile guns, and getting it done at a doctors is much better than a mall place. You are right that needle piercings are usually less likely to get infected that those done with a gun, but not all places that use needles will allow children. So if people are getting a child's ears pierced then a ped is usually the way to go.

My ears were pierced when i was a baby, as where my mothers and my daughters. And i wore tiny pearl earrings which i later gave to my daughter.

In fact, when my daughter was born, I was asked in the hospital by the nurse, "do you want her ears pierced". My husband and I said , " yes". And the Dr. pierced them there.

But ya know, the "it's legal for this one why not for the other one" doesn't really follow through, even in the same species, since in this country it's legal to surgically alter baby boys, but not for baby girls, even if they are both for religious purposes. So law is not always logical!

Uhm, I'm sorry, are you insane? How can you compare circumcision to the mutilation endured by those poor girls?

#1 What they do to the girls would be the equivalent of removing all of the ***** that is outside of the body, not a little bit of skin, because that is what they do, remove all of the ******** and usually all of the ***** that is outside of the body. O.freaking K?

#2 It is not done for "religious purposes" it is done to control the girls when they become women. If they can receive no pleasure from sex then they won't wander. That's a far cry from circumcision. All the guys I've been with were circumcised and they had NO problems enjoying themselves.


You can believe circumcision is bad if you want to but PLEASE don't equate it with the HORROR that is female circumcision. It makes you sound like a complete whack job and totally lessens what those poor women have gone through. It's like comparing summer camp to the Holocaust. No freaking way.

I've read some pretty off the wall stuff from you Bumber that makes me shake my head but this really takes the cake. How in Gods name anyone could possibly think what you do just freaking blows my mind. That's just plain whacked!

I agree.

But I also want to add -- please go do some research on female genital mutilation before you ever talk about it in comparison with male circumcision again.

I used to tag cows' ears, and notch pigs' ears, and I gave my cat sub-Q fluids also. I still think it's a horrible idea to pierce kittens' ears. Mainly because they are almost certainly going to rip the earrings out while playing and possibly do serious damage to their ears. I couldn't even wear dangly earrings in my own ears around my cat because he would try to yank on them.


Of course I think it's a bad idea to pierce infants' ears for the same reason, but I don't think they are as likely as cats to rip the piercings out.

And Bumbershoot - I agree with other posters that you aren't making a reasonable comparison. If you research what goes into the female mutilation I think you will see how different it is from the male procedure.

I'm wondering if that jerk did it when the kittens were relatively newborn so they couldn't fight back. While the huge ball studs on their ears are horrific, that piercing on their back makes me cringe.
