Pictures of New DVC Members Lounge (& Entire Beach Roped Off @ BCV)

Here's some photos of the new members lounge below. It's small but very nice - only open till 6 pm.

AND...

Unfortunately, the ENTIRE beach area has been roped off at BCV today. NOT JUST THE WATER - THE ENTIRE BEACH! You can no longer even step on the sand!!! In other words, THERE'S NO MORE BEACH TO WALK OR PLAY AT THE BEACH CLUB.

UPDATE: I added a few photos of the roped off areas in Post #4.

Please forgive my rant, but this is all the result of absolutely mindless parents. Yes, I understand the horrific tragedy of the un-necessary death of this little boy BUT the parents even admitted that they were IN THE WATER when the attack happened.

The signs clearly say "NO SWIMMING." And you can't even blame Disney for this horrible over-reaction because no one wants another lawsuit. Grand Floridian has several spectacular pools so why would anybody decide to take a chance in that filthy water at the Seven Seas Lagoon.

As a result of the parents mindless decision, we've lost all access to all our resort beaches. In addition, four magnificent animals had to be euthanized in an attempt to locate the remains of the boy.

Unfortunately, EVERYONE loses in this case. All this the horrible result of no common sense!

How do you get to the smaller pool and the slide? Have to walk on the sand?!?

I spoke to one of the cast members and there will still be access to the slide & kiddie pool but she did not elaborate. Since I suspect several more people will be curious about how the area has been restricted, I ran downstairs and took a few photos.

That's probably temporary until they get the one near the water up. If they were going to close them completely forever, they wouldn't be doing it the way they're doing it over at VGF for instance.

Me too. BCV is where we stay!

They just need to get the rope fence with the alligator and snake signs up and it'll reopen. Fingers crossed!

For now Buena Vista construction is installing post and rope fences at the waters edge with new more descriptive signs at the MK area resorts, Epcot resorts will be next. Disney is going to wait and see the reaction to their changes, the PR affect, the news cycle, and they are assessing their future liability should something like this occurs again in the future.

In addition they will be cleaning the water plants away from the beaches and they will be increasing their reptile removal efforts.

We're arriving tomorrow at BWV. I'll definitely check out the BC situation. I guess no more movies and marshmallow roasts by the beach. I hope they give guests access to the slide though. Glad we're not staying there this time.

I am sorry that you are so upset about this but I think it is unfair to place blame on the parents of that poor boy. I am a rule follower and I would not have given a second thought to wading at the edge of the water. In my mind that is not "swimming." I associate swimming with bathing suits and your whole body in the water. And I just never would have considered the possibility of an alligator attack. I always thought that swimming was not allowed in Disney's manmade water features because of water quality issues and no lifeguards. I am not one to flaunt rules and am very careful around water (in fact I don't like Stormalong Bay because I find it too stressful to watch kids in that spread out pool). Had there been signs warning about alligators it would have changed everything for me. I feel so badly for that Nebraska family. We midwesterners just aren't that familiar with the habits of alligators and I don't think Disney has ever been very forthcoming about alligator risks. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the pictures...we won't be staying there until next June...we will be at WLV in October and the beach is closed due to construction...which I wonder if all the construction from the poly, and now WL hasn't caused the gators to move out of their old places....bet there is a whole nest of them on the old island, animal preserve.....

I'm sure the slide will be open. I do hope movies on the beach return but I can understand waiting on the fence and warning signs.

OK, I went swimming in the big BCV pool tonight and I was able to use the slide and my Grand Daughter was able to use the kiddie slide. For now they are stacking rows of reclining chairs to block guests from stepping on the sand while simultaneously creating a path to the pool. There is also a cast member standing guard at the main entrance to the beach. The changes are coming so quickly at the moment that I'm not really sure if anyone knows what the final outcome and arrangement will be.

How dare anyone say the actions of lane graves parents are the cause of the beaches being closed. The alligators actions are the reason. If someone wants to shoot their mouth off here they should get the facts straight. The 2 year old child was playing in 1' of water. 1' horizontally not vertically. The parents went into the water to try and RESCUE their baby. I have seen plenty of kids many times getting water in a pail to build sandcastles on the beach. What makes you think an alligator can't grab your child from the beach. Does anyone out there hold their child's hand 24/7? Especially when they feel safe in the environment they're in. Disney should have posted a warning sign about the alligators period. We all know why they didn't. There but for the grace of god go you. Shut up and count your blessings. Oh and by the way next time they have movie night on the beach at the grand floridian you take your child, they'll have a chair for you lakeside on the beach where it's safe. As if alligators cants walk on sand. This was a one in a million horrific and tragic incident. I feel nothing but heartfelt sympathy for matt and Melissa. Do not judge lest you be judged.And I have no reason to be sorry for my rant. As far as the beaches being open again my guess is they will be after some bulk heading or rock wall is built. They probably won't let anyone touch the water again. PS disney will be sued they will settle out of court because they will lose. Even though they can't be held responsible for a wild animal attack they and anyone is responsible for warning a guest on property of any hazard. Which they did not.

It's so much easier to think that there is a reason that every thing happens. But sometimes, there are just horrible accidents. I grew up on the beach, and, every once in awhile, a tourist would get caught in the rip tides and drown. It wasn't the tourist's fault, and no one blamed the parents or the spouses or the the friends of the tourist. Or even the hotel where the tourist was staying. Rip tides just are. Sharks, too, but fortunately we didn't have many problems with them (though they were always in the water).
