DL once had a Pack Mule ride.Could this be what you are thinking of? It was in the area where BTMRR now is along with Train ride through Natures Wonderland and the Conestoga Wagons.

I believe they had "trail rides" through Frontierland at Disneyland in the 70s still. Maybe that's what it was?

I will ask my Dad more about this attraction with the ponies when I see him this next weekend.
