If you are standing in front looking at the resort to the left. That the building would be free standing like VWL and BCV and attached to that side of the resort by walkways, similiar to VWL.
Did you get any info on whether or not there would be any savannah views? If I'm understanding you correctly on where the building will be located (and I have a LOUSY sense of direction!) I'm thinking at least some part of it will face the Sunset savannah.

For the record, not everyone agrees with this statement....

I think someone say it would be in the area near the swimming pool? where the buses stop?\

I like the fifth floor rumor much better.

That actually makes sense ... Pool view on one side, Savannah view on the other. Close to the main pool, so they wouldn't have to build a quiet pool, though they could on the other side. Close to the buses and parking lot too.

If they have Savannah Views, I'll be very very excited. Then, I just need them to annouce it ... and, finally, I'll need someone to wire me the funds to purchase the add-on. Cure Addon-Itis Today! ;)

Someone on another board had seen plans with it by the bus/pool area similar to VWL. However that was posted 6 months back and who knows when those plans were drawn up. Apparently there are plans for all the WDW hotels. And as we all know... plans change.

The spot Sammie is talking about has more space to work with then on the pool side. I think the pool area is a little cramped and would lessen the ambience from the pool. I'm a little concerned with how they will deal with the delivery/ service area to AKL that is right there. Talk about dumpster view! It could have a nice Sunset Savannah view.

Does anyone think they are doing both the 5th floor conversion and a new building??? or just one? Are we basing the 5th floor conversion only on the construction of model rooms? or was there something else?

I had read that rumor as well (that if DVC is added, it will be on the pool side). But I think Sammie's more recent info makes more sense because there is more room on the left side. Here is an aerial view from google:
http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&ll=28.352724,-81.604031&spn=0.005372,0.011694

Also, building it on the pool side would be pretty close to Osceola Pkwy -- could be pretty noisy on that side. And I think they are going to need another pool. I like the existing pool area but it is barely big enough for just the hotel guests.

It's getting interesting!!

Could someone please help out a fellow DISer who had planned to go over to check out the AKL on his past 4 trips but somehow never made it over

Looking at the aerial picture, where is the Savannah? Is it in the middle of the horshshoe? Thanks.

It is both inside the horseshoe, and on the left side, and on the "top" half of the right side.

The Savanna is all around the buildings except where the pool is. You can see the paths in the arial view where they use they vehicles to care for the animals.

Based on the paperwork, the remodeling on the 5th floor is just for "models"; however, I'm still wondering why they would need 3 bays... seems like 1 model room would be sufficient.... Unless they need 3 to create 1 2br unit.

It will definately be interesting to see if/how they would do an AKL DVC... if it were on the 5th floor, that would be one small DVC and it would sell out really fast.... if they build a new building, it will be a challenge to build anything too large that doesn't take away from the savannah views of the AKL... it will end up being views of the AKL with animals in between...

I went back to the VAKL thread. There is one other tidbit... someone (Rozzie) was making AKL concierge reservations for Jan and got a reduced rate for a standard room because because they were remodeling the deluxe rooms. They could just be remodeling the rooms or... reconfiguring for VAKL???? (the deluxe rooms are on the 5th floor of the Zebra and Kudo trails as well as 15 rooms on the 6th floor facing either the sunset savannah or pool)

Talked with Concierge staff on more than once occasion about our Jan 07 ressie. Says there is going to be "some remodeling" and that the regular deluxe rooms are not available. I thought super news for us, because I got a super duper rate ($100 off).

You would have to figure one bay for a studio and probably 2 bays for a one bedroom. The master bedroom/bath is the size of one bay with the living and kitchen space in another bay. They would link these two together to show what a lock-off 2BR would be like.

We looked into buying a DVC when Disney was building them at OKW.
But I decided liked the regular Disney resorts better.

I always said if Disney would build a DVC on the monorail we would buy one.
I talked to DH last night and if this rumor becomes a reality we will buy a DVC at the Contemporary!

The only downside is------------------- I will have to give up my title of
All Star Goddess. :(

no, you don't just stay at the All stars on the weekends..

I stay at Pop on the weekends - no reason not too!!! :thumbsup2
