Pics Of the Contemporary Vacation Club!!!!

That is so awesome!!! I personally don't think it would take very long to build. So I do think Q4 2008 is totally possible. Remember that is a verticle building and will primiarly be steel and concrete(not a lot of cutting and, measuring. The inside they probably have on a quick formula, so it would not take long. Plus as soon as they get a few floors openned, the hotel will be operational since the shell will be finished.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Oct. 1st. I doubt there will be many incentives...and we are going to have to move quickly(one-two year max). I also think the views will be fantastic!!! :sunny:

It will also be interesting to see if they have more than one rate depending on view or if they have Magic Kingdom view as a guarantee like Baordwalk view but at the same rate as the other views. I don't think they want to deal with lots of Members checking in and hoping for the MK view only to be told that they have a lovely view of Bay Lake.

MK was once just a requested view in the tower, too. Last I stayed there was in Sept 2003 but I didn't pay extra then for the MK view. But now I believe it is a higher rate than the rate for a Bay Lake view.

Hey Tink10, thanks for the detective work, FYI, someone on the "other board" saw your info and posted it there, you're a celebrity! And the way they hold on to threads over there your info will live on for eternity!

Wow......I'm honored (even though I don't have a clue what the "other board" is).... :teeth:

Am I the only one who thinks this building clashes a bit with the tower?

Rather, I feel the tower clashes with the new DVC building, which appears far more attractive and far more "Contemporary". Maybe they should bring the old tower down?

Am I allowed to post links to other boards? If so I will be happy to paste a link to the thread for you.

Either or. I'm no fan of the tower either, but these two buildings don't work together.

The "drawing" is linked on mouseplanet today. So I went to the site and looked. Got to say, I think it's just not very attractive.....

When you've got such an unattrative building to start with, it's almost impossible to come up with a design for a new building the complements it, without it being unattractive. In cases like that, it is better to creat a wholly new design, which appears to be what they're doing here. While I agree that replacing the old building would be better than leaving it be, I think that's too much of a waste of money to be a viable option.

Especially since they just rehabbed the rooms in the tower.

Here's the posting from the "other board" that indirectly cites Tink:

DVC rumors turn back to North Garden Wing

Yes, the see-saw of rumors about the next Disney Vacation Club location has switched back again to the Contemporary Resort, this time much more strongly. We are hearing that cast members working at the resort have been informed that the North Garden Wing will be closing on October 1 for a complete rebuild into DVC lodgings.

The 16-story resort design that we reported earlier is also surfacing again, but with a different twist. While the ground-level footprint of the North Garden Wing reportedly cannot be changed due to Reedy Creek zoning regluations due to the location's proximity to Bay Lake, Disney has apparently gotten any zoning variances necessary, as the design clearly shows a new building footprint.

A sharp-eyed reader sent along a link to the Web site of the architectural firm of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects LLC, whose award-winning design for the Contemporary's Convention Center back in 1992 apparently helped them to land the next enhancement for the property. The images are about halfway down the New Projects page. The C-shaped building surrounds a free-form pool facing Bay Lake, and looks to be even slightly taller than the Contemporary Resort's tower building. There would also be a fourth-floor walkway from the new DVC lodgings to the Grand Canyon Concourse in the Contemporary tower. The Web site indicates a completion date of 2008.

And BTW, is it just me or do the architects drawings invoke stylings of the original EPCOT central hotel? Take a look at some of the aerial shots on Waltopia. Sorry, I'd link them, but I'm not allowed to yet.

I'd stay there at least once, if I could get in at the 7-month window (which would probably be possible during the first year-or-so after opening).

Dan

One last comment before I actually get to work today...on close inspection, the side elevation of the walkway sure does look like a WEDway, but that's just my boyhood dreams coming out...

Have a great week folks and hopefully some of the rumors are true!

15 min ago the pics were up on the architects web site.

Now, I see nothing......It was the 6th project on the "New Project" page. Now, it seems to be gone.

Can anyone confirm?

I have the pics saved to my hard drive, so.....that's not a biggie, but it's interesting that they might have pulled the project off the page so quickly.

Gone for me too. :confused3

Gwathmey Siegel & Associates have removed the DVC drawings from their site as of 10 am EST. Luckily we have all saved them already... :cool1:

Dan

I mentioned yesterday the Disney lawyers would have a field day with this. I wonder if Gwathmey Siegel & Associates ever read the non-disclosure agreement Disney must have had them sign??? :rotfl2:
