Picnic on Tom Sawyer's Island WDW

So I've read that you can picnic on Tom Sawyer's Island in the MK (https://disneyparksmomspanel.disney...sland-purchase-food-picnic-facilities-116158/). My question is has anyone done this recently or been recently and could at least confirm if they still have the tables there? I was thinking that this could be a fun Disney experience (we normally bring in snacks but not full meals so this would be a break from what we normally do). Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has brought in full meals what did you find to be good options?

We picnicked over there a few years ago - we did not sit at the old restaurant that link mentions - I don't think we wandered over that way. We had little ones so we ate at the picnic tables near the playground. It was perfect! Thanks for posting a link to the blog, now I'm really excited to try to have a light picnic lunch over there!!! DD is 4 so hopefully running around will make her want to nap for a little bit after playing for a while too.

I just sent the link to my daughter suggesting we make sure we visit this with the kids next year when we go. We haven't been to the Island in forever.

As far as I know, the tables are still there. We have brought our lunch in and eaten there on our last few trips (last one was in June 2015). It's a really nice, relaxing place to enjoy lunch and there is hardly anyone there.

The Island is AWESOME!! We love it and make a point of going if we have 1-2 hours to spare.

This sounds nice. I am trying to do more "stop and smell the roses" type of experiences on this trip. I too would like to bring food from a counter service and eat it there.
