Picnic in the Park Animal Kingdom

That sounds really yummy :) If we weren't on the meal plan, I'd definetely sign up for that.

Thanks for posting this. I checked out the menus and it seems like it would work so well for us (as long as we don't have to order 3 of the same kind of sandwich)

Hmm - that sounds interesting.

It sounds good, but there's not an option for 2 people. I wonder if that will change.

Has anyone seen the picnic areas? Are they just picnic tables thrown in a location or are they fairly nice to sit at and take a break and a meal?

I did this today. It was very easy. Not all areas had picnic tables but standard tables. Lots of folks just sitting there and not eating.

I thought the food was pretty good.

My first thought was "We already do this!", and we do. We bring in our own lunch about 3/4ths of the time when we're not on the free dining plan. We also look for picnic spots already. Then after really looking at it... I gotta admit, the prices aren't bad at all. Not for Disney at least. We'll try this at least once on our next trip.
I'll also say one word... FINALLY!!! I have been saying for years that Disney needs more picnic type spots. When we bring in our food we have to sit at restaurants where everyone else is carrying trays of food that sometimes look better than what we have. Now, before you say "Your on vacation... eat out" you gotta understand that we DO go to WDW 4 times a year. It's not a big event we save up for every 2 years or so. So if we ate out EVERY meal, 28 days a year in Disney... HOLY COW!!! That would be BIG money!!!! One of the ways we get to go so much is by saving money in other ways, and one of them is food. My point is it would be nice for those of us who want to bring in our own food (and there is a LOT of us doing it!) to have a place away from the rest to eat. I like seclusion of the woods. We already planned to have a meal on Tom Sawyer's island next trip. I think more picnic spots can't be anything but good. With prices like those listed... considering the current restaurant prices in the park... I see this as a big hit already!

OK: Publicity alert.

Mark my words:
On the next series of Disney commercials they will show a family picnicking in the woods!
One major complaint I hear often about Disney is the price of the food. If they can plant a subliminal thought in the minds of millions that you can save money by bringing in your own food (already allowable and common anyways) they will convince people that Disney is "doable" in a recession.
That's the common theme of commercials today.

What if you have children on the quick service dining plan? Is there any meals for them on the picnic?

Has anyone tried this? Can you tell me if it's any good? My DH is a relatively picky eater, so I'm not sure any of the options in AK would be to his taste, but this sounds like it might work. I was thinking we could do one of each option like the chick and the sandwiches with a couple of different sides as his DA and DU will be joining us on our AK day.

If you're on the Disney Dining Plan, Picnic in the Park may be used as a Quick Service Meal (requires one adult entitlement per meal amount). For example, a meal for three will require three adult entitlements.

I'm going to be on the meal plan and we will all be doing this as well.

This was discontinued last January.

Unless someone has news of it starting up again, I'm afraid you guys are all out of luck.
