picked up our new 08 Fuzion 362 today...have tons of pics

That being said you won't find any on ebay for $600

Oh, I beg to differ! My cart was $525 on ebay! Granted, I have put a lot of money into it from there, but you can find them on ebay, you just have to know where to look!

Since you all have so much knowledge about golf carts, tell me, is there a governor on electrics? Our cart takes off so fast it will nearly through you off the back seat (we got seat belts for the kids anyway, but my wife swears it will) but once you reach a certain speed, it just won't go faster...even with a full charge. I was wondering if they come from the factory with some kind of limiter switch or something to keep the speed down on golf courses that could be removed or switched off so that it would go faster. Or is this something that would require a new motor and more batteries?

MinniesMate,

I think tungpo1 would have some suggestions for you on that. He builds them.

The electric cart has many factors that determine speed. As far as I know, there is no governor. We used to fly down the hills at our golf course, but couldn't do it with the gas.

Anyway, back to your questions.
Speed is determined by a variety of things. 1. Motor 2. Batteries 3. Tires

The more your batteries are charged, the faster your cart will go. However, brand new batteries will make your cart go faster, but at a certain point it maxes out. Most carts are either 36 or 48 volt carts. I heard Tung mention a 72volt cart, but I've never seen one.

The motor hp is the main variable in cart speed. Most carts have a 3.5 hp motor I believe (Tung Po can verify). You can upgrade to a 5.5 hp motor and see an increase in speed. I am thinking of going to 11hp.

If your cart is lifted, with the bigger tires, that will also increase the speed. The problem is, the 4 tires will run you close to $500 for the wheels and rims (although I think they look cooler)

The other "variable" is the controller. I have an Alltrax 500 amp. It is programmable. You can have it set for maximum torque to shoot off the line, ( I don't, with kids it's not worth it). However, the main advantage to me is that the fact I can pass others, it gives lateral movemnent pickup. The disadvantage to the high amp controller, is you need to upgrade the wires on the cart that connect all the batteries.
Hope this helps, and doesn't confuse more...... Tung may have some more insight

It sound as if I want more speed I'll have to spend at least $400 or more for a new controller, new tires plus lift kit, or a new, more powerful motor.

the motor is pretty cheap, that's where i'd start.

There really in no need to change your controller unless you are pulling, or doing lots of uphill driving. Depending on what cart you have I can hook you up with a motor that will get you at least 20-23mhp just with a motor change, under $400 :thumbsup2
