Pick a red Car!!

We just returned from a trip to DL, DCA and a few other parks. When we went to get our rental car they were all lined up and we were told to pick one. One of my sons said "Get the red one" I said okay, but after looking for it in parking lots I have made it a priority to always have a red rental car. Sometimes it's hard to remember not just where you parked but just what kind of car you had. There seems to be rows and rows of white cars. We never had a problem spotting our car, we could even find it from the top of a couple of rides!! I can't recall seeing the suggestion before and I told my son when we get home we have to post about picking red. He said "But if you do that, next time we go everyone will have a red car!" I know these boards reach a lot of people .....

I will never forget our experience in the SeaWorld parking lot on the first day of our Nov. '97 trip to Florida with a white Alamo rental. It never occured to me that many, many rentals were white until we went looking for our car in the parking lot which seemed half full of white cars. I actually had to walk backwards, trying to remember the view from that morning until I figured it was the proper perspective -- sure enough, our white rental was nearby. Yes -- a red car would have certainly helped.

Just beware of the old saying that red cars are the most frequently hit. I don't know if it's ever been scientifically prove, but three days after I got my red Neon a few years back, someone rear ended me while I was at a dead stop!
We were assigned a red rental car once, and I swear all the tourists were aiming for it. But that's not unusual in the Orlando/Kissimmee area for any car of any color ;)

Never heard that about red cars being hit more often. I had a white car last and after the 5th accident (three times rear ended) I sold it and a couple of months later the new owners were, you guessed it, rear ended. Perhaps it is a measured risk....but I sure liked not wandering up and down the parking lot aisles trying to find my car, after spending a full day riding roller coasters things look different than they did when we parked early that morning!! (more upside down or something!!)

More red cars are ticketed then any other car...hence the saying "arrest me red"

Knocking wood, my last three cars have been red. Of them, two were never in accidents.

One was in two, but both were weird ones. One time an ancient man backed into it in a parking lot while DH was standing talking to a friend nearby. The guy didn't even realize he had hit the car!!

The other time a piece of equipment fell of a snowplow and bounced up under my car, ripping out the tranny.

No tickets in any of them :)

Not necessarily true. I owned a bright red Grand Am for 5 years and never got a ticket. I got two tickets when I owned a tan Saturn.

Poorman--

Thanks! I tried the link and it worked, weird. You can use one of the other links to get there as well. Or just try this:

I'd stay away from dark purple, I had a 1996 Grand Am that was dark purple, I dearly loved it, it was the first car I bought completely on my own, I was so proud of that car!

I also got pulled over three times in two weeks, but only one ticket; probably would have been two tickets if the officer who got me for passing in the turning lane would have realized he got me for a stop sign the week before. DH threatened to take it away if I got it one more time!

Disclaimer--I am not a bad driver. I would not ordinarily pass someone in the turning lane at all, except I was late for work because the professor of my last class at college thought it was fun to go over into the start of the next class before letting us go, and he'd dock our grade if we left early--no excuse, I know that. I did the rolling stop at the stop sign because it was 11 at night, completely dark, I was turning right from the driveway at the hospital where I worked onto a 4-lane state route, and there was no one coming in either direction, only the one car that passed just as I got to the stop sign--the patrol car. That one cost me $85, lesson learned. The other time was supposedly for speed, I got pulled over for 59 in a 55, but a few months later I found out they were targeting my car because it was a rare car at the time, and the only other one in the county had stolen plates on it.
