Photos: Faux wood flooring @ OKW

As rehabs are paid for by Members, not Disney, why do you think Jim Lewis, or the Walt Disney Company, have anything to gain from choosing one product over another?
I agree that DVC and Disney don't pay for the rehab, but they do have skin in the game.
It's more of an indirect thing... If dues get too high they will lose sales. Cheapening things up a bit will keep dues lower, and ultimately improve Disney's bottom line.

Management should be managing the standards of a brand's public appearance.

I would be curious to see the true ROI of a Vinyl floor. Easier to install on Concrete, if that is what OKW is using (somewhat doubtful due to reports of floor noise) but usually the decent Vinyls seem to be more expensive to buy than many real wood floors...

Please don't confuse the new flooring with a quality wood laminate or a Pergo-type product. It's definitely a vinyl-like composition.

I would also say the floors look better in the photos than they do in person. Of course, each of us will need to decide for ourselves.

It's hard to tell what kind of wood they're trying to represent. Doesn't look like oak. Here's a closeup...

While I love real wood floors for a home and can see the practicality of installing vinyl over wood for high use areas, I'd be extremely upset if DVC choose to replace the rugs & tiles in VWL or AKV with either. I can understand why many here dislike the change.

I agree, the room renovations could not be complete - the look is too disconnected & am interested in seeing the final product. Right now it seems as though the kitchen island is floating out there without a home.

I'm no wood expert, but for some reason, I think Cypress would be a fairly authentic choice

I'd like to see the whole finished product but I like the wood look. Carpets can wreak havoc with a lot of people's allergies and I am starting to see more and more hotels putting in laminate or hardwood now for that very reason. My hubby is my gauge to tell me how clean a room is --- if he starts sneezing like crazy and sniffling we know there's an issue with dust. Sucks for him but it does work in our advantage to request an actual clean room. We don't need spotless; heck our home isn't spotless but we don't expect to find a layer of dust on the furniture either.

It does look a little stark! Well, with all of the other stuff I bring with me to Disney, I guess I could pack an area rug. Or maybe we could start an area rug sharing thing like they do at Vero w/ the beach chairs!

I'm going to reserve judgement until the entire rehab is complete, but so far I actually like it. I think it looks more updated, though I agree they need to make some changes so it blends in with the rest of the decor. My guess is it will blend in great with the new decor that just hasn't been installed yet.

It's not the faux wood floor but that old school tube TV that makes me say "Ewww..." ;)

They shoulda gone with something a lot lighter like a White Maple, or something a lot darker like an espresso finish. Did OKW owners have a say in the changes? like a vote at an owners meeting or something?

I really don't expect Disney to put decor choices up for a vote by the membership. Heavens, even in this thread the membership can't agree whether they like the new floors. Nothing would be accomplshed trying to decide things via a membership vote or committee.

This seems like a pretty big change and something that the members should have had a say in. It wouldn't have been to hard to put something together like a web poll for members.

Time to replace the floors what to you want:
- Laminate floors (3% dues increase next year)
- Carpet as is now (4% dues increase next year)
- Solid Wood (15% dues increase next year)
- Marble Tile (25% dues increase next year)

Sure people will still complain but hey... Majority rules! ;)

So nobody knows for sure if this is what the new rehabed rooms will have for flooring?

Maybe DVC is just throwing that down for now until the major rehab happens sometime this year? Maybe the carpets in that room were just so wore out they had to put something in there and this was a good cheap alternative?

It definitely does not look right.

Disney doesn't care what members want. The majority of OKW owners voted against adding a pool slide, but they put one in anyway.

Your poll really isn't an option for DVC. If the poll indicated members would like the solid wood, for example, and that needed a greater increase than 15%, it would mandate an expensive, formal, documented and audited vote of the membership. And what constitues a legal majority as far as DVC membership? One membership = one vote or one membership with 3 deeded owners = 3 votes, or 1 vote for each point owned?

Of course more points should be worth more votes :thumbsup2

I, too, loved looking at the quality tile work at OKW. I really appreciated that personal touch. (not your basic machine produced tiles)

I might not do that tile at home, but that's what makes a vacation place great.
