Photos: Faux wood flooring @ OKW

I also wonder if this is in a building with an elevator and this is actually HA rooms with fewer flooring transition barriers...

Or maybe it is a room designed for those with severe airborne allergy issues.

If I misunderstood your first post, I apologize.

However, the wording you used, where this room is exactly, does not ask for a general area or street. It's asks for a specific location.

Correct. The exact location would be nice to know at some point but any ballpark hints for us would be helpfull at this point. It also looks as if there is still tile in the entry, is that correct?

Lew,

The renovations started in front of the Hospitality House, Blds 11 and 12 were first. We were their over New years and saw them block them off and to start to empty them out. There were piles of each type of item sitting in the parking lot. There have been no reports that any other buildings are being worked on or that they have finished those two buildings. Was the room in either one of these two buildings? If not, then I would guess that the the wood was installed for some other reason. Maybe as a durability test, allergy room or that the carpet was ruined and this was the cheapest/fastest way to put the room in service without spending a lot of money since it would be ripped out anyway like others have speculated. The castmember you talked to might have been confused about the floor replacements since the GV will be getting new hard wood. He/she might have thought it was all the rooms getting the wood floors. I guess time will tell.... The wood looks pretty, but I question the noise factor and its durability. It will cut down on housekeeping though. Just a vacumn and quick mop.... If the lazy housekeepers bother. No more carpet shampooing and having rooms out of service to dry the carpet.
I hope the replace all the grout in the bathrooms. Its been getting discusting. All stained and mildewed.... The showers in the 1BR need major rechaulking.....

baptrap,

The building we're in is not one of the buildings you mention or in the other buildings in that area across from Hospitality House.

The vinyl could have been installed for any number of reasons. However, if it were for a short-term stopgap measure, I question the removal of the tile in the kitchen. The person I spoke with was management and it was right in front of the unit in question, so I don't think there was any confusion on his part.

I hear where you're coming from with respect to lazy housekeepers. Our housekeeper didn't vacuum during our first full service a few days ago and we called them on it. We're here a total of five weeks and we're not going to put up with their attempts to do as little as possible.

:rotfl::)I can't believe I read this whole thread. I love my Kitchen tile, it is the exact tile that is in the restroom near yak and Yeti at AK. I am serious!
I like the wood, but not with pickled cabinets...let's see what happens popcorn::

Getting rid of the carpet may also get rid of some of the complaints about musty smelling rooms. Our last trip we had to be moved because the room had smelled so bad and we had thought it was from the carpet.

OKW has always been my favorite so it is hard to really adjust to seeing any changes.

I don't care for the way this looks now, but if the other materials are changed to match and are still authentic to the OKW theme, then I could warm up to it.

If it is a high quality material it should wear and look fine. Surprised though they stayed with the cabinetry, which does not go well with the new flooring.

I like the flooring but too bad they didn't leave some ceramic around the kitchen bar area to differentiate.

We stayed at Hilton's new Parc Soleil resort in January and it had wood laminate floors and white cabinets with granite countertops - it was beautiful. There was also a large area rug in the living room. I'll post my thread on that resort and the pictures start at Frame #13. Maybe DVC has something in mind like Hilton did?

I had an opportunity to speak with a front desk manager this afternoon who was quite familiar with the refresh of the OKW units. He was also involved with the focus groups for which there were about 50 participants.

Here’s what I learned:

  • The vinyl flooring to be installed is the same as that which is in the grand villas at BWV.

  • Participants in the focus groups did say noise in units below those with vinyl was noticeable, but felt the new look of the upgraded units was worth it. I asked how they equated the two…noise vs. new look…he had no response. He did say he would discuss with the resort manager our report of increased noise below the test unit and suggest additional padding under the vinyl.

  • Bedrooms will receive new carpeting…not vinyl. The new carpeting will not exhibit the wicking of the black substance that, with the current carpeting, ends up on the bottom of our feet. They are well aware of that problem and want to eliminate it.

  • There will be some area rugs…at least two…in the living room area.

  • TVs in the living room will be replaced with flat screen models. We didn’t discuss the bedroom TVs, so I can’t comment.

  • Kitchen cabinets will not be replaced, as reported elsewhere, other than damaged doors here and there.

  • Laminate counter tops in the kitchen will be replaced with granite.

  • There was no mention of anything being done in the bathroom or laundry areas.
As suggested, I intend to contact Member Satisfaction with my thoughts about noise. I don’t understand how members of the focus group could overlook it.

I agree that look is quite nice, although it is a bit off theme for OKW.

I've always liked white cabinets and wood or laminate floors together. I think white cabinets would look better than those pickled ones do with that new flooring. I wonder if they could lighten them up and make them more like Disney's Vero Beach's white-washed cabinetry.

I would think the ceramic tile would be noiser than the laminate. Drop a pan on that ceramic and it will make a loud clank.

They do look nice together. DVD could reface the existing cabinets and replace doors and drawer fronts.
