Hi,
My daughter raised the question if you can use a Photopass during the race to take photos with characters? Seems like a good idea and a great way to not run with a camera.
Thanks

No

The official photographer ASI was positioned at many characters starting the 2011 marathon. Can't say for sure that they will be at every one in the future. ASI photos tend to be pricey especially if only ordering one or two. To be sure you get your photograph, carry your camera.

You can get all your race pictures that ASI takes on a CD like photopass, but they are different companies, so you have to pay for separate CD's. The CD is comparable in price to disney, $75 for just the pictures, or $100 for pictures and a couple videos they also take. I personally prefer to carry my camera. For the price they charge for the CD, you could buy a small digital camera and take your own pictures throughout the race. There isn't always an ASI photographer at every place you want a picture, but there is almost always someone willing to take a picture with your camera wherever you want along the route.

Thanks for all the replies. It is what I expected and will carry my small camera, but was hoping to eliminate bulk during the race.
It'll still be fun and no worries.:cool1:

I would definitely practice running with whatever camera you choose to carry, or at least something of similar size before the race. If you are wearing a belt or fuel pack that you will store the camera in between pictures, you'll want to know how that feels with the added camera weight. If you are carrying it in your hand, you'll want to be used to that as well. I carry my camera in my hand since it always seems to bounce when I try it in my spibelt. It was tough to fuel while trying to carry my camera. At first I tried to do it one handed, but ended up slipping the camera cord around my wrist and letting it dangle so I had a hand for my gel and for my water.

Thanks for the advice. I am an experienced marathoner, but never carry a camera and use raceready shorts for races. This is my daughter's first half and she is very excited about photos. I will practice with my smaller camera and see what works best.:)
