Only 22 more days until our family embarks on our third trip to the World, and we're all really looking forward to it!
In all of our prior trips, we've taken a few pics with our trusty old Canon point and shoot camera - well, except for the time that I ruined our first trip by getting in the hotel hot tub with the camera in my cargo shorts after a night of dancing (and drinking) with coworkers at Pleasure Island in DTD. The problem that I had with it was that I couldn't force it to take some of the shots that I really wanted - the point and shoot part of it thought (appropriately so) that it was smarter than I. I got really frustrated in September, especially when I wanted to get some really good shots of Spectromagic and Wishes. I faked it out for a few pictures, but only about 10% of them turned out the way I wanted.
DW LOVES to take pictures, but probably 90% of her pictures are either self portraits or pictures of DD. So for an early Christmas present, I bought her a Nikon D5000 DSLR, and now I end up taking most of the pictures (funny how that works out.) I've been playing with it a bit and have taken some decent shots, but everything so far has been in either Automatic mode or Automatic with the flash off mode I know I can do better if I can figure this darn contraption out - it has to be WAY smarter than me (based on price alone...) I really want to come home from this trip with a photo chronicle of our magic, and plan on taking a lot of pictures (I'm especially looking forward to AK!)
With all that being said, does anyone know of a really good online resource for digital photography tips and tricks, specifically with our camera model? Anyone else have one and want to share their tips? Or should I just forget the photography and enjoy the "commando raid" itinerary that we've planned?
