photo sharing: Your best shot from the last time you used your camera...

Playing around with my 30 1.4 and rotating the camera to get a different effect. And all I can tell you is that this is the face of one very bad yellow monster.

What do you see outside, Grace?

SO CUTE. That's exactly what I say about our doggies. Everyone says they are so cute...but they don't know what little monster they truly are ;)

Those pictures definitely make me want to get the 30 1.4. Since I just got the nifty fifty, I won't be investing in another lens anytime soon (yeah, right...) but the Sigma will definitely be the next on my list. I love the angle of the second one.

Aaaww! Love the lab faces! What did she do that was so bad?

What did she do that was so bad?

Grace goes to agility class every Friday night. She is a good agility dog, but would most likely be far better if she understood that this is a team sport and and not a social occasion organized solely for her pleasure.

Last night took the cake. I took the leash off to warm her up and she went nuts. Butt tucked around and around the ring, flying sideways over the down contact of the dogwalk, turning the swing plank into a broad jump and mowing down anything (and anyone) in her path. She got two other dogs to chase her. Now, the whole place is upset. She wasn't listening to me (only to the voices in her head), and certainly, no one could catch her. On the fly, she grabbed a bag of treats from a duffle bag and helped herself. She finished up by drinking a few slurps of the ammonia-based water we use to clean our floors, scaring the bejeebers out of me thinking that she had just poisoned herself. Call to the Emergency Vet. (Grace is fine). This is very typical Grace behavior. And she is 4 1/2--not exactly a puppy.

But oh, I can't even begin to tell you how much I love her. Even with her naughtiness, everyone is crazy about her.

Sorry but that has me laughing!(except for the ammonia part) What a character she is. My lab is 4 1/2 also- they are just full of it:)
Can't help but love 'em. They are the best:love:

I finally bought myself a background stand and background. The background came in a few days ago. I'm doing a portrait session for my daughters Down syndrome playgroup later this month so I took some time today to set everything up to see how much time I need to get it up and running. Not to bad at all. I only took a few shots. This last shot came out great. The kids were very cooperative for the most part and this is what I got:

I think I need to use a little bit brighter light bulbs to kill the shadow. For lighting I'm just using some clamp lights (right now with 60 watt soft white light bulbs, I may try 75 watt on one side and 100 watt on the other side) from Home Depot attatched to tripods and my SB-600 flash with Gary Fong diffuser.

This shot is right from the camera only converted to JPEG. ISO 400, 1/60th, f/8 with the 50mm f/1.8 lens attached to my D300.

So cute! And so lucky you have cooperative kids, I was trying out my 50 the other day and just trying to get my 20 year old sister to sit still was a task! ;)

are you talking about the halogen work lights...???

are you shooting straight on with your SB-600, bouncing it will throw some light down between subject and background helping to eliminate shadow

also brighter lights can increase the shadow, try moving your subject away from the background more, that should help soften the shadow

I went to the Museum of Glass the other day and this fellow was volunteering in the kid art section, you could paint with bees wax or make a metal sculpture. I'm not sure why I like the picture so much, but I do :goodvibes
