photo sharing: Your best shot from the last time you used your camera...

OT but for what it's worth nothing against the photos , but i don't get the trash the dress "concept" either...now if it were after a divorce, maybe;) why not just sell it if you don't want to keep it...just wondering how after rolling around in pond water they could be good as new i remember one wedding where the bride was sliding all over the floor etc( and she wasn't even trashed herself) in her dress and torn it up, much to the disappointment of the woman who spent hrs making it for her as her wedding gift:rolleyes1 (not me btw) just seems kind of wasteful and since most aren't cheap, like they don't know the value of $$ for sure:lmao:

I agree with you about the ones who completely destroy their dresses with no chance of it being salvaged. I'm not sure I could let someone completely destroy their dress - unless it was after a divorce!! ;) However, just wet and a bit dirty, I see no problem with. I live in very rural Pennsylvania. The girls I worked with are farm girls. They definitely know the value of a dollar. They had about $40 into the three dresses they used for the shoot (one was a hand-me-down after four other girls used it). Not every dress out there costs wads of money.

WOW, after seeing all the heat you took for this shoot I certainly will not post my pics from an upcoming shoot..

Vampire Bride..the wedding dress will be torn, tattered, covered with mud and blood...

I see nothing wrong with a trash the dress shoot, even if the dresses are destroyed,, probably 75-90% of all prom dresses are put in a closet after the prom, and they hang there for years, until they are outdated and are then trashed anyway..:confused3

While I agree that there are many better ways )goving it to someone who can not afford a dress, donating it) to "dispose" of a dress if you really don't care to ever use it again - and honestly how many of us have worn prom, homecoming, bridesmaids dresses again? I can understand how fun it would be to do a "trash the dress" session and think my youngest would love it - my oldest would be mortified.

I do not think I could actually let them really truly and honestly destroy the dress - although I think the photos look really cool when they do. ;) I know I know - but I kinda like edgy. :confused3

When I see photos of young just married brides totally trashing -and I mean TOTALLY trashing their wedding gowns - makes me ill. When I see them in the dress before it is dry cleaned and preserved - getting some really unusual edgy photos taken - with the dress a LITTLE dirty, but nothing worse than how mine got walking through the Ohio slush to get into our reception in early December - I happen to love those as well.

Are you kidding?? I would LOVE to see them. Vampires totally wig me out - but I think that would be sooo fun to photograph. You could really get creative with shots like that.

(yeah I know - I am weird. check my tag. ;) )

if and when it happens I will be sure to either post some or give you the link to my site..

it was supposed to happen last fall , then the woman got sick, had poison..etc.. so we're back in the planning stages, I have a very old abandoned cemetary in mind for the location..possibly going to do the shoot at night, although as a teenager I had a few very strange experiences in the cemetary, so I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go there at night..LOL

I've had a few interesting requests for shoots,

one was an alien abduction, which involved a nude model,

the other was an erotic clown vampire..I'm, still trying to visualize this one..

and then there is the lingerie, pirate wench calendar...LOL

I have some great friends...LOL

I really don't mind the heat - too much. ;) PLEASE don't let that stop you from posting your pictures. I would LOVE to see them. I absolutely love to see unconventional pictures. They always give me ideas of things I can do - even if it's not exactly the same thing.

I really wouldn't mind totally trashing a prom dress for exactly the reason you stated. However, I think I would have some trouble completely trashing a wedding dress. My cousin was supposed to trash hers for me right after her wedding. Her new husband wanted her to completely trash it. I didn't mind if that's what she wanted to do, because it was less than $200. Now, $2000 and I may have had a different attitude!! ;) Unfortunately, we weren't able to do her shoot due to circumstances. She will be coming back out in August. I'm hoping to do them then.

Anyway, I would definitely be interested in seeing what you get.

I guess my take on the wedding dress is, they get re-used even less than prom dresses..

very few women use "moms "dress anymore....

few people want a used wedding dresss, and let's face it, if a marriage fails, would a woman really want to use the same dress for her next wedding, kind of like a bad luck thing...

cute little "baby" instead of "babe' pics?...now here is a side of mickey88 rarely seen:lmao:
back to the ot...i'm all for unconventional photos...but here is what bugs me about them sometimes...sometimes i think by trying to be unconventional/shocking/ avant garde they just end up looking lame( how's that for an 80s word) and contrived...ie "look at me, i'm messing up my dress"...it's not like it is a depiction of a candid moment, anything but....but like i said i don't get the concept obviously:lmao: this has nothing to do with the quality of the posted pics just speaking in generalities. i think it's probably due to my past...i was wild enough that it really bugged me to see fake "wild" people who dressed the part but didn't really have a feel for it...kind of like the pirate code, don't pretend you are something you aren't:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: and that's the feeling i get from shots in that vein.

Trying to get back on topic. ;)

Okay, so this picture isn't from the last time I used my camera (I already posted that picture  ). This is from the last time I used it before the last time. :rotfl:

I was the photographer for my cousin's wedding on May 31st. I had such a good time. She was the most laid back, calm bride I had ever seen. Her husband was a bucket of nerves. Before the wedding, Nikki asked our grandfather to do perform his tradition - slice watermelons with his chainsaw. So, during the reception, he did just that. As he was cutting them up, I noticed his 1931 Ford Model A sitting on the trailer behind his truck to be taken home. I thought it would be a neat picture to have Nikki sitting on the step. As I was taking her picture, her husband, Eric, came over with a slice of watermelon for her. The result was my absolute favorite picture of the day:

steery1,

I think so too!
Is that a Hidden Mickey in the clouds behind him? ;)

Just curious- did you do any PP to the image?

Thanks,

Thank you. :)

I did the usual pp - H+S, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast. But on this one I ran it through a filter in PS but I cant remember which one. ::confused3
Pity cause I really like the effect. :)
With PS I just kinda fiddle about, move the sliders around until I see something I like. :)

I didn't notice the hidden Mickey but now you come to mention it I do see it. :thumbsup2

keep in mind, that not all photography is photo journalistic, a lot of it is pure art, which would call for the set up shots..

now if you're going to bring Pirates into this thread I can give you a link to some folders that will show you the other side of Mickey88, pics of the Pirates I hang out and party with..pirate: pirate:
