"1429x957" is a raw pixel count and not the same thing as resolution. Resolution is a measurement of pixel density (pixels/inch or pixels/cm) that is usually set when you are preparing to print out the image and determines the printed picture size. An image that's 1429x957 pixels printed at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch will give you a print that's 4.76 x 3.19 inches in size.

In your camera settings, you can set the resolution. Of course, once you have taken a picture of a certain resolution, there is no way to increase the resolution (except by interpolation, and that doesn't really help.) If you are uploading to a web site, you can upload at different resolutions. I found out recently that my phone camera uploads to most sites at a low resolution, unless it do it manually.
