PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

My must-do's at DHS are all of the headliners! I love roller coasters so ToT and RnRC are some of my favorites on property. My family is very competitive so we have to go on TSMM to see who can get the best score. I always beat Eli, but his accuracy is always better than mine. ;)

Here's a confession, I've never had a cupcake from Starring Rolls. :faint:

My blisters is thankfully a little better. The skin ripped off the day it happened, so no need to drain it. Ouch! I put on shoes today for the 1st time!

Tammie - I think I will sign up for a race. I need it to be a longer one.

Hi Ladies!

So this Saturday I ran the Hartford Marathon in 47 degrees with pouring rain the WHOLE TIME. BUT, using Galloway (run 5 walk 1) I PR'd by 9 mins! I finished in 4:10! I was so excited and so freaking cold! I lost feeling in my right wrist and hand and needed a volunteer to help me open my candy. It was such a mental battle because it was so cold! I just kept counting to 100 in my head, then starting back over. It was sore for a few days, but yesterday, I had a massage and now I am back to my old self. I won't run until this weekend, but I plan to crosstrain tomorrow.

!

OMG! That is an awesome PR time in such awful conditions! :cool1:

Speaking of my recent trip (and the reason I've fallen a bit behind on this thread), I completed the ToT 10-Miler and it was amazing! I'm so glad it was my first Disney race and it's gotten me very excited to continue my training for PHM.

I had 2 Disney cupcakes on my trip and I have to say that they were some of my favorites. The King cupcake from Pop and the Butterfinger cupcake from Starring Rolls. Delicious!

Glad to be back and catching up here. Onward to PHM!

Great job on ToT 10miler!!

Been without internet at home for a month since we moved & AT&T finally got it figured out a few days ago. So, now I am trying to catch up.

Wednesday Wonderings

Hat or No Hat at Disney Hollywood Studios...

This discussion might be lively. But I actually like the hat. I think that each park needs that iconic symbol that is over the top LARGE! What I hate about it happens to be the stage and all the signage, lights, etc that they put up making the thing look ugly and you can't get decent pictures!

HAT!!!

Wednesday Wonderings...

What are your must do attractions at DHS????

I MUST DO Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster of rides in. Betsy will just have to find people to talk to while I am riding ToT! And this trip Amy and I get to make funny poses on RnRC so that we can post them on our children's facebook pages for a little mommie pay back!

If I have time...I would like to ride TSM and Star Tours...I like them both but they are not must do for me

TOT & RnR are my must do's. If my kids are with me, then TSM becomes a must do. I typically will always ride Star Tours multiple times (seems the line is always short...), but I could totally do without.

Monday Motivation

Very disappointed in myself the last week. I did not get ANY running or walking in. I was soooo sore from the 10K last Sunday (and the entire hilly course) that I could barely move. Then we made a really fast trip to Corpus Christi (10 hour drive) for yet another college tour for Ab. I had planned to run on the beach Saturday morning, but the rain had other ideas. I should have ran Friday afternoon while we were spending the afternoon by the shore...but again I thought I had Saturday morning. So my next thought was I will run in my BIL San Antonios neighborhood before we leave Sunday morning, dh decided to get up REAL EARLY to drive home...so much for that thought. Best laid plans...

I really need to get myself in gear with this running stuff. The weather is starting to change and I know that will mean hit or miss running once it does turn cold.

How about a PHM video recap to get us going this morning?

Lets make a goal this week and stick to it...My goal is 3 run days and 2 walk days. What is your goal?

Race Report
Electric Zombie Run-5K
July 19, 2014

Ab and I headed to Austin for a quick college visit weekend at the University of Texas in Austin…Hook Em’ Horns. It turned out to be quicker than I anticipated, at least the college visit at UT. I knew by the time the “sales pitch” presentation was over that UT was not a fit for her, but I kept my mouth shut. We went on the campus tour…at the end of the tour (before we were to head to the nursing school and dorms for the afternoon session) she looked at me and said, “This is not the place for me.”

WOW, we agreed on something and decided since we were so near the capital building that we would walk down there and take a look around (since she doesn’t remember going there when she was maybe 3 years old:rotfl2:).

Afterwards we headed out of Austin and found Ab’s favorite place to eat…Chick-Fil-A for a quick lunch and then a stop at Galaxy Cupcakes outside of Austin…

Which has been featured on the Food Network to pick up a little pre and post-race fueling! Before driving to Waco, checking into the hotel , picking up our race packets for the race (which was a bib, t-shirt and a couple of glow bracelets) and heading back to the hotel for a little rest before the race later that night. I have to say I was really disappointed in the t-shirt…the registration said sport tech shirt and this ended up just being a cotton t-shirt plus I hate the design (although it is glow in the dark). My pre-race fuel ended up being a tiramisu cupcake (dreaming of our Europe trip now only days away at this point)…before long it was time to dress and head off to the race which was just a few blocks away and across the river.

Waiting around for the race to start we got to watch as all the Zombies came out right before dark and headed down the course. In this race you could sign up to be a Zombie and let me tell you there were LOTS of them…pretty good costumes too! I wish I could have taken more pictures of them but all I had was my phone. Not long afterwards it was time to pop our glow sticks and get ready to run.

I never can seem to get my start of the race where I want to be in terms of intervals. Tonight, I was feeling so strong that I nearly ran the entire first mile. I know shocking, but it felt good and I went with it! Right after that first mile, I tried to settle into a 1 minute run/1 minute walk interval (which was good until the last ½ of a mile when I wanted to die…not a good Galloway girl…finish should be strong). After the first mile it was getting pretty dark because they turned off all the street lamps and the zombies came out! I am so glad that this was a non-contact Zombie run…meaning basically they just chased you a little, tried to grab you , jump out at you, and growl at you. They pretty much left me alone because I would never acknowledge their presence…too focused on running my race. It was a nice run at night along the river and I really enjoyed the course! Somewhere between mile 1 & 2 was a turn around and Ab passed me on the other side…of course she did she can run 2 miles to my 1 mile. LOL…in the end she was saved (her time was less than 30 minutes) while I was Zombie-fied BUT I DID MANAGE TO PULL OUT MY BEST TIME EVER FOR A 5K!

Then to the hotel to celebrate with a pizza and of course a cupcake…mimosa for me!

The next morning on our way home, we stopped off at the Fort Worth Running Company,

where they have a computer analysis gait anaylsis available. Verdict, again I am told that I have a pretty much perfect gait and there is no reason why I should be in stability shoes and the suggested…

I bought 2 pairs of neutral running shoes! Let’s see if these are good on the shins!

I've been dreading this week for a while now...the Cape Cod half marathon is this saturday and that was supposed to be my first half until I got injured...I'm making the most of it by volunteering at the race, but seeing the race detour signs on my street has got me in a funk today. Things could be worse and I'm trying to look on the bright side, but I worked so hard to train for this race and then it all got derailed! This recovery process feels like it's taking forever. I'm still going to PT and I'm hoping that I'll be lacing up again soon, but at this point it has been 5 weeks since my last run and I'm hoping that I don't have to start all over again! 122 days until I leave for Disney!!!!

I get it. I have missed several races this year, thanks to various health issues. I hope you can get back to it soon!

My motivation is to get through the week with work and try to run once this week. Ran in the Baltimore Relay last weekend - my leg was just under 7 miles. The downhill portions left my legs a bit sore. The weekend continued to be exhausting.

Word to the wise - my relay partner ate a Pure Protein bar at the finish line and went into allergic shock - had to go from medic tent to hospital for treatment. I ate one too but there were several flavors. So lesson learned - don't eat something you haven't had before plus look at how many ingredients are in those things!!

This weekend I have the MCM 10K which I was hoping to use for my time for the PHM. We will see how it goes and hope for the best. Race time temp is supposed to be 45-50 degrees and sunny so at least that part is good.
Oh yeah and a PTA event Friday night and my birthday on Saturday.
Good times.

My must-do attractions at DHS...TOT, Rockin' Roller Coaster, Great Movie Ride, and Toy Story! I was always a huge fan of the Backlot Tour as well but I know it's gone now...back when I was a kid my sister and I got to ride the huge bumblebee from Honey I shrunk the kids! :)

I think I will miss all of the props in the Backlot tours...they were so much fun to look at.

For us the only must do ride is Toy Story - Midway Mania. I also enjoy the Great Movie ride so we catch that when the wait time is low. With so many attractions closing I am not sure we will even go to HS on our next visit. If anything we may try to get up early and hit MM then leave.

It is sad that DHS seems so unloved lately...so much potential...has anything officially been announced as to the changes ahead...I think we are just popping in to do the headliners and of course a couple of cupcakes...

I'm with Betsy, I'll be sitting out on ToT while my Tweedle goes on it! ;) It's the ONLY ride I won't do at WDW (ok, take that back, I won't do Orange on Mission Space either). I just cannot do repetitive drops. Every time I think I might try it, I'm not willing to give up the WHOLE DAY, which is what will happen if I get nauseous. It will be the same way this time b/c I won't want to get sick before two days of races!

I would not give up a whole day either for a couple of drops...but at least 1 tweedle is daring...

For me, DHS is my least favorite and I only require TSM and RnRc in that park. It's fun to take pics and I enjoy the Animation class, but that's about it!

I need to do the animation class sometime...

Hi Ladies!

Tammie~ Congrats on finding come running mojo. It can be hard, especially with some setbacks. Yea for virtual runs! What is Ab looking to major in?

She is looking at nursing...but she wants a program where she can directly go into Nurse Pract as soon as she has her bachelors...

I have never done virtual runs before...but the Harry Potter bling was just too much to pass up...plus it is going to be good motivation to run in December when it gets cold...since I don't have a treadmill and the treadmill at the gym in public...well that is too much more me to handle.

Brandy~ blisters stink! I know you are not suppose to, but I always drain them at a point on the edge then put on vaseline next time I run. Enjoy your massage!

In DHS, I must do Toy Story Mania. I can be peer pressured into TOT, but that is actually a recurring nightmare for me (elevators dropping) so I always regret it once I am on it. I like RR, but DD has no interest so we don't do it. To tell you the truth, for our Dec. and Feb, trips, we are not even going to DHS. I do like the Indiana Jones show because I am a big fan of those movies. DD liked it too.

I have always wanted to do Indy...but never have made it at the right time for a show...

So this Saturday I ran the Hartford Marathon in 47 degrees with pouring rain the WHOLE TIME. BUT, using Galloway (run 5 walk 1) I PR'd by 9 mins! I finished in 4:10! WOW...9 minute drop in time...YOU WERE ROCKIN THOSE INTERVALS...congrats!

My BF is in Disney with her husband for the Wine and Dine fest to celebrate their anniversary. I am living through their adventures. I cannot wait to go!

Pretty soon I will be living my Disney dreams through Betsy, Carol, and Laura who are off to run W&D....I am so ready for this trip!

ToT and TSMM are must-do's for me at DHS. Actually, DHS is my favorite park so everything is really must-do! ToT is my absolute favorite ride: the theming, the drops, I seriously could go on and on! I only got to ride it 5 times on our recent trip and that was not enough! :)

YAY...a TOT fan!

Speaking of my recent trip (and the reason I've fallen a bit behind on this thread), I completed the ToT 10-Miler and it was amazing! I'm so glad it was my first Disney race and it's gotten me very excited to continue my training for PHM.

Don't worry about falling beind...its my PTR and I don't seem to ever be caught up with it. YAY for completing ToT 10-miler. Amazing how much a Disney race motivates you!h

I had 2 Disney cupcakes on my trip and I have to say that they were some of my favorites. The King cupcake from Pop and the Butterfinger cupcake from Starring Rolls. Delicious!

Glad to be back and catching up here. Onward to PHM!

My only must do is getting a red velvet cupcake at Starring Rolls!

My kind of must do...

We have TSM for the Wii...guess who gets way too competitive....:rolleyes1

Here's a confession, I've never had a cupcake from Starring Rolls. :faint:

Well we can solve that problem...

My blisters is thankfully a little better. The skin ripped off the day it happened, so no need to drain it. Ouch! I put on shoes today for the 1st time!

Tammie - I think I will sign up for a race. I need it to be a longer one.

YAY...we can have fun together...well sort of anyway.

Been without internet at home for a month since we moved & AT&T finally got it figured out a few days ago. So, now I am trying to catch up.

And hopefully feeling better!

HAT!!!

I knew there was a reason why Amy, Cammy, you and I are friends...

I hate being constantly injured...and so understand the funk you are in. It happened to me right before ToT 10 miler last year...but I rested and did what I was told to do...and I made it. Not a PR but I finished and that is what I wanted.

I am so sorry that you are in the funk...think cupcakes! Pretty soon we will be doing the double digit dance!

I get it. I have missed several races this year, thanks to various health issues. I hope you can get back to it soon!

Missing races is not fun...

My motivation is to get through the week with work and try to run once this week. Ran in the Baltimore Relay last weekend - my leg was just under 7 miles. The downhill portions left my legs a bit sore. The weekend continued to be exhausting.

Great job on another run...

Great advice...hope she is okay! Too scary!

Good times.

Wishing you a great run and a great time! Sounds like a busy weekend for you...

Thank you for the reassurance! They let me run for 5 minutes at PT this morning and even though it wasn't much, it was a start! I just need to keep stretching and strengthening it and I'll be good to go :)

MOTIVATION MONDAY

My training goal last week was to get out there and get back on track...meaning 2 walking days and 3 running days. Well how did I do? I managed 2 walking days and 2 running days. Life seems to get in the way...especially in the evenings now that it is way too dark to run in the morning and way too many activities to do in the evenings (and soon too dark to run in the evenings). I am happy that I got out there and got this much training! My usual long run day is Saturday and I completely intended to run even though we were going to be spending another weekend of criss crossing the state of Texas with our children...but after a late night of driving to Baylor University in Waco...I took advantage of sleeping in. We were in town for my dd state cross country meet.

She did great, although if you ask her it would be a different story. She placed 11st (1 place out of medals) but made the All State Team (straight As and 15th or above finish). She was hoping for a top 5 place...sadly, that was not to be...her school had to move up a class this year and the competition was a lot tougher (had she still been in the lower class she would have placed 1st). Not the way she wanted to end her cross country career...but we are proud of her. Her team managed 4th place, which was awesome considering this was their first year at this class/division.

So my long run Saturday, became a long run Sunday. The plan was for a 4 mile run. And 1 mile into it I was not sure that I was going to make that...at around 1/2 mile my shins started in but I made the decision that I was going to make 4 miles regardless. So I pushed through and about 3 miles the pain let up. Taking full advantage of the situation I ended up running a 10K in a pretty decent time!

Cupcakes are for celebrating finish lines, but this was certainly a run that needed to be celebrated...

chai tea latte and oatmeal, that is how I roll!

My training goals for this week...I am hoping now that swimming season starts for my dd...I am hoping to so a little cross training in the pool while she has practice. So my goals this week are 2 walking days, 2 swim/kicking days, and 3 run days (I have a virtual 9 3/4 K planned for this weekend). What are your goals?

My goal is to not die while training.

This could go either way. :rotfl2:

Seriously, my goal is to TRY to follow the Galloway Plan I have printed out--

Motivation is still low for me. But I pushed myself out last week for 3 miles & then 4.1.

My goals are two boot camp days and two or three running days. There is a local 5 miler on Saturday I might do to try to boost my racing pace. And to sign up for my fav 5 miler - Celtic Solstice.

And to get a new watch - I think I lost mine Tot weekend and I messed up my intervals on Sunday. Think I could have been faster with some reminder beeps. Any suggestions?

That is my goal all the time...NOT TO DIE! And lately I have been feeling like I have come close to it a few times! What plan did you print out?

YAY...a race report! :rolleyes1

I have an interval timer on my phone that works well...been meaning to replace the gymboss that got stolen because I forgot to lock my car...hope they enjoy the timer! LOL...I dont think they knew what they were taking!

Hi ladies! My blister finally healed and I was able to run 2 days last week and I went out his morning with Tebow in the stroller. A few weeks ago I bought the 21 Day Fix from beachbody. If I could control my eating I think I would be losing some weight. I am doing all of the workouts though so I know I'm building strength. :)

Tammie - we have Toy story dr the Wii and Eli has never played it. :confused3

I am very far away from my original training plan but I am going to keep pushing through and get back to my 3 day a week plan. ;)

Doing a little small town drop in to check out my ticker and see if it's covered in cobwebs or fully functioning and accurate. :rotfl:

My goodness... We are under 4 months and last time I was here I think we were at 6? or 7? :confused3

Now to catch up... again... with this report.
