PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

I just signed up for the Color In Motion today with my soon to be 12 year old. It's her first race ever! I told her she had to prove to me she could run distances & yesterday she ran 3 miles. So we are officially signed up... and she is beyond thrilled! I am going to make us white outfits as well! Probably tutu's and tee-shirts... maybe a white bandana....

I'm excited just because she is so excited. (Although I do like color runs- even if I sneeze brown/purple snot for a week after!) :)

I hope you have fun with your daughter! This is too cute! :goodvibes

I ran 3 Color Runs and yes, I agree with you about the snot comment- hahaha! :rotfl2:

So, today I am feeling bummed. I had come across a 25K a few weeks ago that would be in July. I was back & forth on if I should do it (it was a night race). I finally decided a few days ago that I wanted to do this race & then I went to register & it was sold out  They only allow 500 people in the race because of it's location in a park & they have to meet city ordinance, but still...I am bummed. Next year I will not hesitate on it.

I have a color run with my daughter on Saturday morning, Color Me Rad. She is super excited, I am feeling...meh. I am beyond excited to spend some time with just her, but the race itself...not so excited about it. Trying to put on a happy face for her though & got us matching white outfits to wear (at her request).

Aw, bummer about the race being sold out! Maybe it's a SIGN!?

I hope you have fun with your daughter this weekend! Color runs are easy and tons of fun! I couldn't run a mile and I walked most of it so hahahah - like everyone else did!

I am so glad to hear all of you ladies connecting with your daughters through running. My oldest DD who is soon to be 14 wants to the 10k with me in Feb. But I have to force her to stay on track. Maybe a nice 5k will give her a taste to be motivated for the big deal ALL the WAY in Feb.

ALL the WAY in Feb. is right - I wish it was September or something! :sad1:

Def do a 5K with her! She will love doing the 10K with you! :goodvibes

Got an MRI some today on my foot/ankle. Don't get results until next week though :( so no real answers yet.

I am hoping to get in some swims this week to make up for all the lack of training. Besides that and weights I am at a loss for what I can do that doesn't involved my foot/ankle. Anyone have any ideas?

Aw nooo! I hope you feel better and speedy recovery!:flower3: If you go to a gym, look for one of these!

Rest is probably your best bet for now and stretching and upper body strength training.

Does long walks bother it. But I thinks aqua jogging is going to keep you conditioned. Rest up my friend. I am in massage therapy right now. Not the nice ones pictured on the spa pictures. But sessions with Helga type massage:eek: Oh man I hurt so bad the Sunday but around Tuesday I regained alot of mobility. She knew I had not been stretching and foam rolling. Hang in there all of My delicate Cupcakes. We have a lot of time to heal, repair and train!!!

Thanks everyone for the 10k pixie dust! pixiedust: I finished in 1:23:52 which was under my goal of 1:25 so I'm thrilled! It was a good race and I really don't think it could have gone any better. I did it! :cheer2:

I am going to start strength training in the next week or so. My husband knows what areas I am wanting to work on & he is going to put me through strength training sessions.

In the meantime, I have been doing squats & planks. I did both of these last summer & that was when I was my fastest. I am also doing wall sits & tricep dips.

Went through my planner today & figured out my marathon training plan. Seeing those 20+ mile runs are scaring the daylights out of me!! I am doing a hybrid plan of Galloway & Higden. I wanted to bump up my mileage a little bit during the week & will be following a 4 day run week with 2 rest days & 1 cross training day. I will do strength training 2 days during the week when I have shorter runs (Tues/Thurs). I am starting training with this new schedule this next week.

That looks really good, Debra!!!

Andreah, I have passed along your training charts to two of my friends!!! I  them. Thank you for working on them and sharing!!!

Congrats on your 10K! We could run together. I finished my 1st 10K in 1:21:52 (I think!).

Finally getting around to my race report...

OKC Memorial Marathon & Half Marathon, April, 27, 2014

The race was scheduled to start at 630am. Hubby dropped me off at 530am & I walked to my corral area. Rain was starting to fall off & on. Nothing too bad, but enough to occasionally make me take shelter under a tree.

This was my view while I was waiting.

As race time grew closer, there was more & more lightning. They were announcing the closest shelters (parking garages) where each corral should go if we were instructed to do so. In the meantime, I was stretching off & on to try & warm up the muscles.

Pre race selfie

Start time kept getting pushed back & we were finally given a start time of 8am, but told to seek shelter. We all headed to our parking garages. Once in the parking garages we could no longer hear the announcements as we were 3 blocks from the start line for my corral. I was up at the front of the parking garage, so I was able to get cell service & 3G. I was trying to keep up on FB & Twitter with race announcements. 8am came & there was no further word about the race. About 810 we could hear the faint sound of the National Anthem being sung. We all headed out as quickly as possible to get into our corral. We heard the announcement the wheelchair athletes would be starting & then the runners would be released at 820.

So, off the runners went. We had no time to stretch with the circumstances that happened with the weather. Race started & the temps were in the upper 60's with over 80% humidity, but the rain had cleared.

Not even a mile in & I was already cramping in my calves. I had to stop & stretch.

Mile 4 was a pretty brutal hill. At mile 5 I saw 2 ladies who were running the race come out of a McDonalds with breakfast. Mile 6.5 was Gorilla Hill. I had heard all about this hill...which turned out to be not as bad as the hill at mile 4. Regardless, Gorilla Hill had residents dressed as bananas & monkeys. I saw hubby & the kids at mile 8. Shortly after my calves really started cramping & it was all I could do to walk...forget running at this point. I had been eating pretzels & hydrating well, but the humidity was just brutal.

I got to mile 13 & gave it everything I had to run across the finish line. No PR, but another half marathon in the books.

Pics from during the race.

I will definitely do this race again. Just hoping for better weather conditions for next year.

Congrats on the half! I'm glad you were able to stay safe in the storms!

I ordered something online from the Disney store today and saw a sweepstakes to win a trip and registration for the PHM! You can enter until the 14th!

I actually entered this yesterday!! :goodvibes

It's for you and your family to win a trip to Disney to run the Royal Family 5K during PHM 2015 weekend! Not sure if this includes flights, hotel, etc. but it seems pretty cool!!!

I read the prize and rules. It includes a night at the Castle Suite and airfare if the winner lives more than 250 miles away. :)

Just proved what a lush you are Nicole...I didn't even NOTICE the beer coupon! :lmao:

Sweet D.... Takes one to know one. :lmao:

I want to find the race, however, that has the 'margarita' on the bottom of my bib vs the beer. As I don't really like beer that much. Does such a race exist? Should I make it part of the Girl Scout 5K I'm organizing next October? (KIDDING!!!! But only because society dictates that should not be allowed!!) :)

Sweet! I'm signing up! How awesome would it be to stay in the Castle Suite?!?! That's like a dream come true!!

Cupcake Friday
(as if just being Friday isn’t sweet enough)

PB&J Cupcake
Captain Cooks at the Polynesian

I must admit that one of my comfort foods is a great peanut butter sandwich (sometimes with or without the jelly) and I have been known to grab a spoon and a jar of peanut butter so this cupcakes name gets me to stand up and take notice.

The PB&J is a vanilla cupcake topped with vanilla frosting. It sounds pretty plain...so where does the PB&J come in? The PB is in the chips on top and apparently looking at pictures the master bakers dont' skimp because one can never skimp on the peanut butter on a sandwich! As for the Jelly?

It's in the middle...and it is GRAPE! Yep, a good peanut butter sandwich in my opinion has to be made with grape jelly so I think Disney totally did this cupcake right! Here is the review I found from the Disney Food Blog...

"I had assumed, what with the GIGANTIC pile of sweet vanilla frosting over the cake base, that the PB&J flavors would almost be an accent, or even an afterthought. But, not at all in fact, it was hard to wrap my brain around the fact that I was, indeed, eating a cupcake. Somehow, this thing actually tastes a LOT like a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich! Go figure, huh? As a cupcake, it really does play a bit of a mind trick on you, and I imagine that lots of dedicated cupcake fans (and I do consider myself one) may not be able to get on board."

My thoughts? This one sounds interesting enough to try and share. I am not sure though I would really want to eat a whole one by myself.

What are your thoughts?
