PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Count me in as a Potter fan as well! Love it!!!! Can't wait for the new section to open!

Yay!!! Same here!!! :)

Another HP fan here too! :thumbsup2 I have not been to the dark side yet (why couldn't Disney have purchased HP?!?! Bad move Disney.) I hold my Potterlove in a bit though b/c it's SUPER nostalgic for me...I spent my boys younger years reading them the books aloud every night and we went to book release parties and did all things Potter...so now it makes me a wee sad b/c my boys are all big and in college! *sniff*

and Snape. That makes me sad too.

Ok, carryon. I'm done now. :lmao:

Yay! So many Potter pals here! :thumbsup2 Oh, you must come to the dark side :cool2: wizarding world is amazing and the new section...eeek! so excited!

I would go to the book release parties as well!!! :yay: It was the best time and I miss those days too *sniff*

Cupcake Crawl Friday
(As if just being Friday wasn’t sweet enough)

German Chocolate, Pina Colada, & Cherry Berry
Grand Floridian

Research this week on cupcakes at the Grand Floridian was hard; there are not a lot of reviews out there of the rest of the cupcakes located at the Gasparilla Island Grill. So with that being said, today you get 3 cupcakes. Yep, it has been a 3 cupcake Friday kind of week in my little part of the world.

German Chocolate

What a pretty cupcake this is! This light chocolate cake is crowned with a helping of German chocolate filling and chocolate buttercream icing, plus there is a bonus inside…

Cut into it, and you see that the cupcake hides a generous helping of the filling inside, too. Here is about the only review that I could find…

”While there’s nothing terribly original here, the execution is good. I
t’s a delicious, portable version of a classic.
I do wish the cake had been a bit more rich and moist, though.”

Pina Colada

This cupcake ought to make our boozing cupcake girls stand up and take notice with just the name. Sadly, no booze in this cupcake though. This vanilla cupcake is topped with a vanilla buttercream and decorated with coconut shavings.

But the real treasure is what is inside this cupcake… a center of coconut pineapple filling. Here is the only review that I could find

“I love the cake-to-stuff ratio here!
And the pineapple in the filling —
almost a mousse — is delish!”

Cherry Berry Cupcake

I could not find anything on this cupcake and only a few pictures, so I know it does exist. Analyzing the pictures to me it looks like a vanilla cupcake with maybe a cherry frosting and Mickey Sprinkles (love hidden Mickeys) and a couple of raspberries on top. Although I have seen this cupcake with green frosting, so that is really confusing. I am sure that it is filled, maybe with possibly cherry inside?

Disney Food Blog Writes…

“Both of these were way better than the s’mores cupcake,
though I liked the pina colada cupcake the best!”

So I am thinking that I love visiting the GF and sharing one of this cupcakes amongst friends along with a view of 7 Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom sounds like a few moments in heaven to me, and heck maybe we could write the review of the Cherry Berry Cupcake.

Your thoughts?

Not much of a chocolate person at all, so the German chocolate cupcake is a NO for me.

I LOATHE cocounut, so the Pina Colada cupcake is also a no for me.

The cherry berry cupcake sounds...well...not very exciting. Will probably skip that one too.

Hi-ya! I'm Gina! :wave2:

Real Life Side: I'm 25 and I work for a television network in NYC! I live in CT and commute - yuck! I just got engaged to my wonderful fiance in September 2013 and we are getting married Fall 2016!

Disney Side: I have been going to Disney since 1990? or 1991? I don't remember but I have been to Disney A LOT. I have been going to Universal a lot as of recent (huge Potter fan!) but I always go to Disney while I'm there! I was at Disney in February of this year and also last year for Micky's Not So Scary Halloween Party! I love, love, LOVE Magic Kingdom! I could live at Downtown Disney and eat Earl of Sandwich and Ghirardelli's all the time too! I am running my FIRST runDisney race and I am super excited but nervous! I will be doing the GSC - but I'm still thinking about JUST doing the 1/2 Marathon! I'll decide soon!

Running Side: I am a total cupcake runner - when it comes to distance! I ran track and field from 8th grade and into college. I ran NCAA Division II - my events were: 55m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 200m, and long/triple jump. I had to quit junior year because of a back injury. I ended up having acute herniated discs in my lower back because of Triple Jump - don't let your kids do it if they plan on running track! I'm a fast sprinter and I love racing - but when it comes to distance - I loathe it! I would try to get out of long distance workouts since I was in grade school and college - yuck! I would just try to find a way out of it! I remember one track meet, my coach asked me to run the 4x400m relay and I faked a knee injury! I hate it that much, haha. I haven't been running for hm, 4 years almost! I took a major long break because of my injury and a sit down job just makes you more lazy! So, I ran/walked 3 Color Runs over the past 2 years! I loved doing it but then got back to being lazy again. Now, I am going to conquer my fear of long distance running! I will face my fear! I started with C25K and I'll work from there! I want the bling and the memories - not the time! I want to finish with a smile and new friends! More updates later on races and training!

Welcome Gina! Glad to have you here!

I also loathe coconut! The texture sends me through the roof! I would give the cherry one a shot, but I'm not that excited about it.

I also LOVE Harry Potter, but I haven't been to Universal since the WWoHP opened. Someday!

Hoping to have my official bio up here soon!

I have half marathon number 3 on Sunday, OKC Memorial. Weather forcast is not looking good...67 degrees & 60% chance of T-storms at race time. Oh joy! ITB & hip are giving me trouble, so I don't know what to expect from my body. Hoping to PR, but we shall see.

I hate coconut too! However, I love coconut oil...on my skin! I mix half Avenno lotion and coconut oil and I smell like a yummy macaroon! Mmmmm! :goodvibes

Aw, thanks so much!!! :flower3:

Yay for another Potter pal! And yuck to coconut haha :crazy2:

Good luck!!!! Nice weather but lets hope for those t-storms to stay AWAY! I have a hip issues too so I'm right there with ya!

OMG y'all coconut haters! I love it but don't think I'll go for that cupcake. I might hit the bar and get one of these instead

LapuLapu!!! I put down two of those puppies last time I had one! :thumbsup2

I guess I am a lush. I'm really not when I'm at home...Disney brings it out in me. ;)

I strongly recommend cake wrecks.com this week - they are doing princess cakes. Really good stuff.

What is Lapu Lapu?

Disney brings it out in me as well! I have a glass of wine from time to time like every few months haha but that's it!

What is Lapu Lapu?

"2 parts Myers's Dark Rum, 2 parts pineapple juice, 3 parts orange juice, 1 part sweet and sour mix, topped with 1 part Bacardi 151 rum floated on the top."

All I know is that it was a large fruity pineapple/orange tasting drink...in a pineapple...and I had two.

Then I don't remember much after that. :lmao:

J/K...I do remember, I remember my photography skills were much altered by these drinks and I was annoyed by it. ;)

I think it's because I don't really go out when I'm home and we don't have a lot of bars or places with drinks (rural area), so I save it all up for vacation. ;)

There I go filling the cupcake thread with booze talk again! :rolleyes1

Hi, I’m Jenny Lou and I’m finally getting around to doing my official cupcake bio!
494_zpsfb57f173.jpg

My Personal Side: I’m 32 and have been married to my amazing husband for almost 9 years (in May), but we’ve been together for nearly 15 years (in June). Yes, we’re high school sweethearts and I wouldn’t have it any other way! We have 4 furkids: 3 dogs (dachshunds Dutch and Roxy and long-haired Chihuahua Ginger) and a cat, Yoshi. I have a part-time job as a legal assistant at a small law firm, but my passion is baking! I have an at-home cake and cupcake business called Cloud Nine Bakery and it’s very small right now, but I’m hoping it grows! If you’re interested in seeing the yummy goodies that I make, you can check out my business’s Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/cloudninebakerypc. (See, you knew I belonged here, right?) I also enjoy watching movies and TV shows with the hubby (we have a small home theater) and reading.

My Disney Side: I don’t remember ever not loving Disney. I first went to Disney when I was about 8. We moved to Florida when I was 12 and I remember going again once or twice in middle school. When I was in high school I went a couple of times for cheerleading competitions. :cheer2: I introduced my husband (then boyfriend) to Disney on a brief one-day trip to Magic Kingdom for Valentine’s Day one year in college. I don’t think he really “got it”, but I managed to get him back there again about 4 years later for our 1st wedding anniversary in 2006. We then had a long hiatus from Disney until a family trip in 2012. We had a great time, but it was July (hot!) and we were with a large group so we didn’t get to do everything we wanted and I think it almost made hubby swear off Disney forever. On our last trip this past January, everything was different. First, it was January so we didn’t feel like we were going to melt into puddles on Main St. and second, we were with our very best friends and their kids and they have Disney down to a science. We had ADRs, went with a plan, and got to see and do so many new things. We had a great time and I knew we would be back in no time! My favorite ride is Tower of Terror and my favorite characters are Aurora (for princesses) and Eeyore. I’ve developed a slight obsession with ‘Ohana noodles, Nutella fruit waffles, and Dole Whip floats.

My Running Side: I never thought I would be a runner. I hated running in PE and for cheerleading in high school. I was always gasping for breath and slower than everyone, so I hated it. Then something happened in January 2013. I was here on the DIS and I saw something about the Princess Half Marathon. So I started reading and a seed was planted. I wanted to do this! Now, at the time I was pretty sedentary so running a mile, never mind 13.1 miles, wasn’t something I would have ever thought about before. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life (that’s a long story that I won’t get into) and I was really at the heaviest I’ve ever been. But something about the PHM called to me and made me believe that I could change my life. So, on February 1, 2013, I started eating better and walking with the goal to start running. I read about various beginning runner plans like C25K (but that was a lot of running!) and eventually I found the Galloway method. It really made me start to believe that I could do this! I started running on March 6, 2013 with a 30 sec. run/1 minute walk interval. It was hard! Really hard, but also, kind of great! I kept at it and ran my first 5K that May. Now, by then I’d realized that the PHM for 2014 was probably too far out of reach, but that didn’t stop me. I kept running, getting faster (well, for me), and ran 2 more 5Ks that year. In January 2014 I decided that I was ready to step it up and that I really wanted to do a 10K and more! My first 10K is going to be on May 3rd and I’m so excited! And in October, I’m running the Tower of Terror 10-Miler! Running has given me so much more than I ever thought it would. It truly has changed who I am and my life for the better on every level. (Oh, and I’m down 45 lbs. so far, so there’s that.)

So, making all of those decisions and commitments makes me think that running the PHM in 2015 is totally possible! Now, I really want to do the GSC and I’m waffling back and forth on if I should do it. There’s something to be said for just doing the PHM as my first half and having that be enough. And it should be. But…I’ll already be in Disney. I’ll already be trained up. Lots of you will be doing the GSC. RunDisney prices keep going up. Any advice here is totally welcomed as I’ve only got until July to decide!

No matter which I choose (it will be one or the other), I’m excited to be a part of this group and hopefully meet all of you in 2015! It will be a girls trip with me and my mom (who will be along for fun and support, not running) and it’s going to be awesome!

A Cupcake professional!!!! :worship:

Welcome! I ran "just" the PHM this year for my first half marathon and I'm glad I did. I wanted it to be about the achievement of running my first half, not the challenge, if that makes sense! I KNEW going in that I would do the GSC as my next step in 2015! It worked perfectly for me. Whatever you decide, we'll be there...with cupcakes!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I know I shouldn't use the word "just" when talking about a half marathon. That's just crazy talk! I would be thrilled to complete the PHM. But something does draw me to the GSC. That extra bling couldn't have anything to do with it, huh?

OMG y'all coconut haters! I love it but don't think I'll go for that cupcake. I might hit the bar and get one of these instead

I love coconut and the German chocolate yep I would scarf that baby down!!!!
Tipsy, drunken, spirit finger, jazz hand runners unite!!!

Welcome! I think whatever race you choose, PHM or GSC you will have an amazing time.

PHM was supposed to be my first half marathon this year, so when I signed up I opted not to do GSC because I felt it would be too much for me. I then proceeded to sign up for 2 more half marathons that would be before PHM (one ended up being cancelled because of an ice storm this past Dec). I was sad at PHM that I didn't sign up for GSC & had bling envy from everyone I passed with the GSC medal.

Welcome Gina! It is funny to hear my students who are on the track team (college) say their event is distance and it is the mile. Then they say I am crazy for wanting to do the glass Slipper. We are neighbors, sort of. I am in upstate NY.

Welcome Jenny Lou! Congrats on your awesome weight loss and your running! I cannot wait to see your cakes and cupcakes!

I want one of those pineapples, where can I get those?!?!

And I am a HUGE HP fan! The head of Warner Brothers is an alum of the college I teach at and he came and spoke at graduation a few years ago. He brought Harry's wand and it was on display! It was pretty cool.

Hello my cupcake runners! Betsy here! Sorry for being MIA, I went to WDW Marathon weekend and came home and started graduate school, my first semester is now over so I have some free time again. I did the BAA 5k last weekend, and I'll have to do some race report for that, but I have to get ready for Tuesday when I'll be flying to Disney for Expedition Everest with one of our cupcakes! :cool1: When I come back from Disney classes start back up along with my serious running training as I have a couple half marathons this fall.

I went to the Health and Fitness Expo last Friday and picked up a cupcake for my treat after my 5k and I still haven't eaten it! I'm a bad cupcake! :lmao: But RunDisney was at the expo and Jeff Galloway was there and I got to talk to him and his wife and of course I forgot to ask for a photo. Guess what I learned! When doing intervals on a treadmill, jump off it for your walk break! How simple and easy is that! I look forward to getting to know all the new cupcakes on here and catching up with you all! Any other cupcakes running Everest?
