PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

I think that is a great idea for the 10k shirt! Love it!

Brandy~ Your boys are very handsome! I am spread out from my siblings, as if my husband. It was hard for a bit growing up, but now I love it! You look fabulous too! I cannot believe you have an 18 yr old and a baby! And go you with your running! Your goals sound wonderful and congrats on meeting them.

Sandi~ Welcome and your daughter is beautiful! I love her hair band in that picture :). That is so great that she will join you for your 10k! I hope one day that my daughter will join me in a race.

Still dealing with this stomach bug. I was "suppose" to run tomorrow and 14 miles on Saturday, but I am thinking if I eek out those miles, they will set me back more than they will help. My Ragnar Relay is in 2 weeks and technically I am in my taper weeks so I should be fine. Ragnar is definitely a race you do for the experience, not the time because there are teams that are full of track runners who run sub 6 min miles and cream you! They like to rack up the "road kills" which is how many people you pass. The team I am on, well there are 2 teams, is full of moms just looking to support each other and have a great time so I have to tell myself that as I get better. I had a massage this morning to work on my hip flexors and glutes again. My glutes are too tight, oh to have such a problem :rotfl:, but in all seriousness it wreaks havoc on my back when they get too tight. Ok time to get some work done, at least I can sit up today!

Andreah~ Welcome and I am so sorry for your loss. I love how you plan to celebrate Brian's life! I can imagine that it would be difficult for you to go back. {{HUGS}} Congrats on your running and how far you have gone and how you continue to go! Your wedding looks beautiful!

I really should not reply late at night. I just saw someone else's reply and realized you asked about favorite attractions at the Magic Kingdom only. Duh!

Favorites:
1. Philharmagic
2. Haunted Mansion
3. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
4. Peter Pan

These aren't necessarily in order. I still don't think I have a least favorite, and there are still so many things that I've never had the chance to experience yet!

I have a running question. If I am on the treadmill for speed work, how fast should I run?

First off, welcome to all of our new cupcakes!! So many new ladies joining this week.

Wednesday Wonderings...

MK Favorite Rides...
1. Space Mountain
2. BTMRR
3. Haunted Mansion
4. Buzz

MK Least Favorite Rides...
1. Stitch
2. Tomorrowland Speedway (only because I always end up with a headache from the fumes...but my little boys love it)

Karen – great tank top!

Andreah – what beautiful way to remember your husband! I hope your trip is great!

Jenn – thanks for the compliments on my boys and me! Coltin is actually my DSS, but he has lived with us full time for the last 10 years. He doesn’t see his “mom” very often. I hope your stomach settles and you feel better soon!

I have a running question. If I am on the treadmill for speed work, how fast should I run?

There are a lot of examples of it online if you search. I tend to do my speed work outside, but one that I follow for treadmill is something like this...

Figure out your easy warm up pace (ex 6.5mph)
Figure out your standard pace (ex 7.0mph)
Figure out your pace that is tough to hold a few miles (ex 7.5mph)

So...if these were your numbers, try for 8.5mph. It should be hard & take about 1/4 mi to recover, if not, up the speed a little.

8 x 400 sprints on treadmill
Mile 0.00-0.50 speed 6.5
Mile 0.50-0.75 speed 8.5
Mile 0.75-1.00 speed 6.5
Repeat mile 0.50-1.00 seven more times
Mile 4.50-5.00 speed 6.5 cooldown

I have a running question. If I am on the treadmill for speed work, how fast should I run?

This is going to depend on how fast you normally run. I have a couple different ways I do speedwork. Sometimes I just try to run a mile at about 30-45 seconds seconds faster than my average pace, so for example, my comfortable long distance pace is around 11 min mile...so I run at 10:15-10:30 for a mile and then slow it back down the next mile. Sometimes I speed it up by about a minute faster than normal and do quarter mile intervals. I also do speedy-speedwork...lol...where I will turn up the treadmill to something like a 9 min mile and try to hold it for as long as I can before I have to slow back down. There are a lot of different ways to do it, I don't bother myself with the "best" way to do it because when I do speedwork, I'm only trying to beat myself and not that worried about being the speediest out there.

Andreah, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Sounds like you have a beautiful memorial planned for September.

This made much more sense b/c I didn't even convert to treadmill speed in my examples. :goodvibes

Andreah - welcome! I am also a Memphis native. You are likely much younger than me, but I grew up in Millington, then moved to Cordova in 6th grade and went to Germantown High School. Grad of "Memphis State University". I love the way you are going to honor your husband and spend a moment with him!

Ok, so I know most people are familiar with Disney Cruise but has any sailed on the Norweigen Line? I see on their ship they have a self serve wine dispenser. How does that work:confused3?
Royal Caribbean has them. You swipe your room key and it gives you a pour (I think 3 ounces?). They can be dangerous. Easy to swipe that card!

Finally - my bio...

Real life side: I am now late (I guess?) 40s, wife and mother of one amazing 22 year old, Katie. Originally from Memphis, Tennesse, we have been in Austin, Texas since 2000. I am a partner in a CPA firm, which is a career I love, and, except for Jan 1-April 15, gives me all kinds of flexibility for travel and time off. We are an active family, enjoying Disney, cruises, travel, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, snowboarding, Supercross races, and sailing as a family. On top of this, my husband Chris rides dirtbikes and street bikes and owns a business in the motorcycle industry. I also do a lot of volunteer work with our local golden retriever rescue group, including hotline, phone interviews, home visits, training, events, and together we do transport and fostering. Katie is studying for her dual (bachelors/masters) degree in accounting (go figure?) at the University of Colorado and has already landed a job to start in the Fall of 2014 with KPMG. On the travel side, we went to Germany/Italy/Austria/Luxembourg/London in 2012 as a family, and my husband and I did a Greek Isles sailing flotilla last summer for our 15th wedding anniversary. (Yes, if you do the math, this is my second marriage.)

Disney side: Mom took us to the Magic Kingdom in the 70s, then back when Epcot opened in the early 80s. I went to Disneyland as part of a cross-country Vegas/LA trip for spring break in college, then honeymooned in WDW and with a "Big Red Boat" cruise. (That was the cruise line endorsed by Disney before DCL came along.) Took Katie at age 5, then again at age 6 when Animal Kingdom opened. Again at 16 with a friend. Then we did a birthday trip for my DH in 2010 when we first became empty nesters! In 2011 we went as a family and took my niece for her dream vacation around Christmas. Last year we did a long weekend in May with friends, Katie, and our friends' kids.

Running side: I am not a runner. I just am not. I am slow. I have never really run much. But last Fall I had a skin cancer removed right in the middle of my back, and that meant I couldn't do any strength training, no wakeboarding, pretty much nothing but running for 90 days. So I took up running as my cardio (I guess I could have done elliptical but that gets very boring very quickly). We all three committed to a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot for 5 miles and really enjoyed doing that together (along with the bloody marys after!). After tossing around the idea of TOT run with these lovely Cupcakes for nearly 2 years, we finally committed to 2014. So Chris and I will be running it this year. I'm using the Galloway 10k plan right now and we have registered for an 8k on May 25, and a night time 5k in late June. Not many summertime races around Austin, so we may not get any/many more real race training before TOT.

At least you were up dreaming of Disney and not stressing about your day like I always seem to!

I think the general consensus is that the Stitch ride is not a favorite. I LOVE the tiki room. Especially now that's it's back to the original version!

More Cupcake Friends...you ladies humble me wanting to be part of this cupcake crawl and keep me so busy trying to keep up with this thread!

I so love making new friends...promise to come back and give you a REAL welcome this weekend.
