PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

I am going to check that out.

The one thing I love about Galloway is that he sets up the workouts for me and tells me what to do each week as far as distance. And I loved his talking to me during the run giving tips and advice...but I have heard them all now! He has a nice voice, no coach in my life has ever had such a nice voice.... Although there are times when I wish he was not so nice to me and would tell me to get my butt moving!:lmao:

Yhea, since you bought the app, you have all his plans for the week- you can just transfer the same workout to iSmoothRun if you want- that's what I did!

I picture him as like Dana Carey from SNL skits when he was in his workout uniform....

I always tell the ladies at my work I need a) a shock collar that electrocutes me every time I go near sugar and b) someone to constantly call me a fat pig to get myself motivated. When they make fun of me for eating all the sugar I always tell them, "please call me fat.. it might do the trick!!" Course they are too nice & don't!!

COOL

I picture him as like Dana Carey from SNL skits when he was in his workout uniform....

He kind of looks like it too. I so want to meet him in real life. He has made me feel so successful!

I just need to be put on a desert (NOT DESSERT :rotfl2:) island for the next year...just water and coconuts! Having skinney people in my house with real food is not a good thing. But remember during PHM we are eating and drinking without thinking!

Running Fuel

So the question was asked what about running fuel...what do you do and use. I have avoided that question because of a couple of reasons:

1. I really don't consider myself an expert or very knowledgeable in the area of running and the person who I relied on for advice (so not a cupcake runner) when I first started running liked to talk down to me as well as basically made me feel like a failure more times then I care so count (and then come to find out later, that all the advice they gave me and all the scolding when I would talk about things I wanted to eat… it turns out they really did not follow their own advice when it comes to running fuel and drinking )...so I really don't like to give advice to people because I would never want to treat someone else like that.

2. I really don't have a "plan for fuelling", but I have found what works for me and I am sure that some people would find my plan very lacking in terms of running, but like I said it works for me.

But since Heather keeps asking me to share with her what I do...I will share. Thank goodness I am surrounded by cupcakes here that won't judge me for what I do when it comes to running.

PreRun/Race

Fuel & Hydration-If the run/race is less than 4 miles (or an hour), I really don't do anything special at all eating wise before my run. I do however drink a big glass of water, especially if I know if it is going to be hot outside. I tend to run early in the morning so heat usually is not a factor for me.

If my run or race is longer than 4 miles, I will eat a banana and a Stinger waffle or a packet of Justin's Honey Peanut Butter about 30 minutes prior along with no more than 8 oz of water.

I tend to have bathroom needs during a long race, its like my body at 5 miles hears running water and I have to find a place to go!

During Run/Race

Fuel & Hydration-Again distance is the key for me. I don't usually refuel during a run/race if it is less than 4 miles. But if I know I am going to be out there longer than an hour then about 1/2 way through my run about 1/3 of the way I start refueling. Some of the things I like are sour patch kids (although they tend to get really sticky in my sweaty hands). I also love Stinger Energy chews (cherry cola flavor).

Just a few of each every mile or so. Then 1/2 way through I like to take a shot (no not alcohol) of Honey Stinger gel or my favorite, Gu Salted Caramel Gel.

If I am in a race, I make sure that I drink at every hydration station, WATER. I hate Gatorade or anything like that so I just drink water. If I am out on my own run (remembering that I hate to carry things), I make sure that where I am running at I can stop and get a drink or I place my car so that I pass it and leave my water bottle on my hood.

After a Run/Race

Fuel & Hydration-Again totally depending on the distance. But usually I will eat a banana and something salty if it is a long run.

Whatever the distance I drink at least a large glass of water afterwards. After the ToT, I found myself really needing salt...thank goodness for a diet coke and Disney popcorn...and trust me they tasted even better after 10 miles!

Prerace Diet

As for what do I eat the day of or the day before a race. I don't do anything special. The night before I do tend to stay away from fried foods and I don't over eat. I like a nice steak and salad, and yes I have dessert if I want it!

This what I had the night before the ToT…one of my favorite meals EVER at WDW. Then the day of the ToT, I had an early lunch at BOG (including a prerace cupcake, needed something to calm my nerves) and then Cammy and I split a chicken sandwich and fries for an early dinner right before the race. There are lots of fries in the pictures...I really picked at them and threw most of them away.

I read that the whole pasta loading thing is basically a scam so I really just do with the foods that I like, heavy on the protein. And if I want to have a drink (which is rare) I will have a drink. I drink lots of water anyway in my none run life, so there is always water with my meals. I think the key is moderation and so far I have not had any issues with what I eat the night before a race or even the day of.

Postrace

Do you even have to ask that? Cupcake of course if I can get ahold of it, along with anything else I want to eat.

I just ran a race for crying out loud...I am entitled to eat anything and everything I want. I am planning on a nice glass of that overpriced champagne, too after the PHM.

Heather & I were talking briefly on FB today about fueling needs during training runs/races & I told her I would put together a post here with what works for me. I know we have some new runners who might also find this helpful. Fueling pre/during/post run is a very personal thing. What works for one person may not work for someone else. Much of fueling is unfortunately found out by trial & error.

There are many different fuels...gels, bars, beans, chews, etc, etc. I personally do not like the gels (too thick for me & make me gag) or beans (don't work at all). I have found that I do best with chews & bars as well as pretzels. How & when do I use them all??

I typically run in the morning, so my pre-run fuel will reflect that.

Pre-run fuel - 1 packet of maple & brown sugar oatmeal. 1 large glass of water. On race days I will add a handful of raisins to my oatmeal. I bring my own oatmeal packets with me when I travel, as well as raisins.
*On race days I will also have a banana before arriving to the race.
*On race days I will have 1/2 of a Honey Stinger peanut butter & honey (with chocolate coated bottom) energy bar just before the start of the race.

Fuel during run - For anything less than 10 miles I don't fuel during the run. For mileage over 10, I typically start fueling about 5 miles in. I prefer Honey Stinger organic chews in Cherry Blossom flavor. I put them in my own snack size bag & will have 3-4 chews every 2 miles or so (with a sip of water). I also carry mini pretzels or stick pretzels in a snack size bag & have a few of those if I feel I need a little more "oomph".
*On race days I will eat the other 1/2 of the Honey Stinger peanut butter & honey energy bar around 10 miles in.
* For my hydration during runs I bring water (anything over say 5 mi) & warm months I will use a hydration drink (GPS Hydration) instead of water.
* On race days I will mix GPS Hydration (a better for you PowerAde type of drink) & GPS E2 (a better for you sport energy drink).

Post run fuel - After training runs & races I use a recovery drink (GPS Recovery Formula) to refuel & help with muscle soreness, recovery...etc. I also try & eat a small meal (fruit, peanut butter sandwich, Greek Yogurt...etc) within 30 min, then a larger meal within a few hours, typically involving protein.

Before long races I typically will have pasta with a protein the night before.

I have friends who prefer to use Gels (I have tried GU & Clif), but as I mentioned I don't like the way those sit with my stomach (even with drinking sips of water). I have not had any luck with the energy beans. I also have not had any luck with Energy Bits, although many people swear by them. My husband loves the Clif shot blocks & Clif gels.

Some people use easy to find items like Fig Newtons & Gummy Bears for their fuel.

Hydration drinks...I have tried Nuun & honestly don't care for it. I prefer my GPS drink. During races I will alternate between Gatorade (or PowerAde) & water at each stop. During PHM I was doing both at each stop because it was so humid. I also carry my own handheld bottle during races with a mixture of GPS Hydration & E2 that I can drink in between water stops if needed (this was my lifesaver during PHM!!)

I realize this was a long (& somewhat boring) post, but it is important even in this early stage of training to start coming up with a fueling plan that works for you. Once you find something that works, don't stray from it. I'm sure all of us will end up with slightly different methods (or even very different) of fueling. Do what works best for you.

Happy training...happy fueling...happy running!

I totally agree with Debra you have to experiment a lot and listen to what your body says it needs. Everyone is completely different in what they need...we also all have our own tastes and preferences.

The beans really do not do anything for me either, but Ab loves them and uses them for her track meets, since she does both the 1 mile and the 2 mile runs during a track meet (the first and last events).

I love the idea of oatmeal...I might have to try that out. I am so bad when it comes to eating before I run. I usually just get up, get dressed, drink a little water and get out there....I know that is not good for me but I really don't like a lot on my stomach when I start out.

Heather-
It looks like you have a lot of races planned the next few months. I am jealous that you have so much to choose from! Sounds like fun for both you and Damien. I love that the 2 of you (Emily & Madeline, too) are doing this together. You are being a great role model. Just remember to take it slow.

Great job and getting out there walking. Don't worry about the pace, the pace will come. But it is always nice to record where you started from to see that improvement. I keep a runner's journal. I record the day, distance, pace and any reflections as to what happened during the race...things that I am thinking and sometimes a picture or two. It has been fun to look back to last year and see what I did!

As for booking this vacation, I will not be booking through runDisney for many reasons. It seems like every Disney running board I read has horror stories about the experience. Also, it is my understanding that all runDisney offers is a slight room discount and there are no more discounts on tickets. Also, should an offer come up for free dining, you cant get that with the runDisney reservation. So in the long run there seems to be too many headaches with runDisney reservations and in the end you are not saving much. I prefer to decide on exactly what I want and then turn it over to a travel agent and I let her do all the monitoring of discounts. Of course, I keep an eye on rumors but I always set a budget and make a decision on what I want and if an offer comes out, well that is icing on the cake. The TA that I use is awesome, despite what some OCD people think...she does her job well and is the expert not a bunch of know it all people who second guess and constantly question a person doing their job.

Costume Ideas

Never too soon to think about costumes. I already know what I am doing for PHM part of the race, but I would rather not share it right now. I knew as I finished my ToT trip report exactly what I wanted to do.

I know this race is PRINCESS...but I have a severe dislike at the thought of ever calling myself a princess ever again thanks to some past experiences. Don't get me wrong...I love Disney Princesses, but I am not one!

Here are some ideas floating through my mind (of course all subject to change we have like 11 months to decide)...since it was another think that Heather asked about

5K
I really think I would like to be Fauna from Sleeping Beauty (green is my color)...anyone want to be Flora or Merryweather?

Enchanted 10K
I know for sure Ab will be running at least the 10K with me (she has not agreed to 1/2)...so I was thinking of something we could do together. She has already told me that she will NOT be wearing a costume nor will she wear a sparkleskirt :scared1:...but I hope to get her into something inspired by a character. For me I was thinking

and for Ab she could be Cinderella I could get her the raw threads shirt and some matching shorts.

But her favorite Disney Princess is Rapunzel...so I doubt she will go for the Cindy idea. But I still like Fairy Godmother.

FUEL:
it's such a personal issue... everyone is different. I think the key for any new runners it to keep trying stuff to see if it works. I am still in this phase! :)

I find I need LOADS of water a few hours before the race start. This is why I do better with night races as I wake up deyhdrated and it takes me awhile to get hydrated. Morning races tend to give me headaches I think because of this issue.

I also MUST run with water in my hand. I have to do it. If I don't- I regret it- even with evenly spaced out water stations- I have to have soe in my hands to take small sips every 5 minutes or so.

I won't eat either for a race under 5 miles. Anything over I will use the Chocolate GU. I can get by with 2 for a 1/2 Marathon. But am wondering if I'm miscalculating that (like I need more).

Food pre-race- need to stay away from fried food as well. And I try to limit my sugar. I like protiens- steak/chicken/eggs.

Here's what I did for the Wine&Dine-
Morning- Oatmeal
Lunch- Quiche (small) and dessert (Wine and DIne dessert trio)
6:30/7:00 night of race- 2 hard boiled eggs, PB on a bagel & carrots.

While running- the stuff they handed out (It was not my usual GU- I want to say it was BLOCK).

I got horribly ill at the end and not sure what it was from. I want to say the GU and the watered down Gatorade. I will be bringing my own gel shots and staying away from Gatorade except at the very halfway mark for future long races.

I also think I need to eat more the day of. I was so worried about this as I tend to have stomach problems (TMI) when running otherwise.

Costume:I love the 3 fairy idea- truly so cute!! And if you can convince Ab to do Cindy- I love the Fairy Godmother/Cindy idea as well.....

I need to come up with 4 outfits: Haunted Trail 5K, ToT 10 miler, 10K & Half.

I have the 10K. But not ready to share yet... it will most likely be my favorite of all of them...

Half- I am torn between Elsa & Belle. I'm not really a 'princessy' type of gal.. so still unsure about this. Every other idea seemed wrong though based on the 'theme' of the 1/2.

Haunted 5K- NO IDEA

ToT- Hoping I can convince Hubby to do Pirate theme. This might be the ONLY theme he would agree to. SIL wants in on our theme too.. so it would be easy enough....

it's such a personal issue... everyone is different. I think the key for any new runners it to keep trying stuff to see if it works. I am still in this phase! :)

I think I have found what works for me, but I still tinker around when I see a new idea.

I find I need LOADS of water a few hours before the race start. This is why I do better with night races as I wake up deyhdrated and it takes me awhile to get hydrated. Morning races tend to give me headaches I think because of this issue.

One of the most important things about a Disney race is to HYDRATE. I started the morning of ToT, but cut off drinking water around 4 pm before I tried to take a nap. Then right before the race I drank a water bottle...and at each water station I drank. The good thing was that water stations were around a mile apart...so I was drinking every 15 minutes.

I am going to have to try out oatmeal...now both you and Debra have mentioned it before running. I am going to try it out this summer before my long morning runs!

While running- the stuff they handed out (It was not my usual GU- I want to say it was BLOCK).

When I was reading, lots of people warned about drinking or eating anything on course that you were not used too...but I know lots of people who can handle anything...I was just afraid so I had my pockets loaded with lots of options.

I got horribly ill at the end and not sure what it was from. I want to say the GU and the watered down Gatorade. I will be bringing my own gel shots and staying away from Gatorade except at the very halfway mark for future long races.

I am glad...because I did not want to share my PHM one either...glad someone else does not want to share. My costume idea is special to me, and I know I will not see probably another person dressed like me...

I saw an Ursula idea that I wish I would have seen before I ran ToT. I had a costume planned but Amy could not make it...so I went with a shirt that I wanted and my new sparkleshirt...plus mad myself some glow in the dark ToT Mickey ears.

I think you cant go wrong with any costume that you like...never mind what race it is!

Tammie's Training
Galloway 5K
Week 3

Monday, March 3 (Walk): 2.14 milesApparently I forgot to save my walk in MapMyRun so I cannot tell you the exact pace, but I know it was under 16 minutes!

That's awesome! I have been liking mapmyrun too!

So it looks like I will be starting my Week 3 runs this week...well that was my plan anyway with spring break and plenty of time and good weather to get out and get it done...BUT, today I did something stupid :sad2::sad2::sad2:...did not watch where I was going and ended up falling in a hole at church and twisting my ankle so much so that I am limping, wrapping and icing! UGH! So I guess this week I will play it totally but how my ankle feels...but I know not to rush it![/SIZE]

Just be careful so that you don't end up in physical therapy again!! I am looking forward to the pictures you post for running! And I need someone to split cupcakes with!

No, I want to be corrected because I don't want to end up getting hurt! Thank you for sharing though and no judgments here :goodvibes

I feel silly because I was walking and it was only a mile and got shaky/dizzy. Kaung takes my vitals when I am like that and other than the normal murmur and low blood pressure it was fine. I am thinking I had low blood sugar, I didn't realize how much nursing really does take from you I guess!

I tend to have bathroom needs during a long race, its like my body at 5 miles hears running water and I have to find a place to go!

:rotfl2:I have been meaning to ask about this, but felt weird! I have a tiny bladder too!

I love sour patch kids! I may try that!

I don't like those Gaterade or powerades either! I like that idea that you park the car on your route! I have been lucky with the cup holders on the stroller, but hopefully I will get to go alone sometimes and will have to remember this :thumbsup2

It's Disney, who passes up dessert :)

Postrace

Do you even have to ask that? Cupcake of course if I can get ahold of it, along with anything else I want to eat.

I just ran a race for crying out loud...I am entitled to eat anything and everything I want. I am planning on a nice glass of that overpriced champagne, too after the PHM.

I wanna look into them having something a little fruitier than the champagne and I will join you then! Not a champagne drinker...

I totally agree with Debra you have to experiment a lot and listen to what your body says it needs. Everyone is completely different in what they need...we also all have our own tastes and preferences.

I get it, I just wanted to know different options to try to find what works. Or maybe what doesn't work as well! There is one lady all she has for breakfast is a cup of coffee! Me, I love my coffee, but that would just throw me off! I don't like eating in the morning when I get up so I am thinking to just bring a nutrigrain bar or protein bar with me to eat during the walking segment!

The beans really do not do anything for me either, but Ab loves them and uses them for her track meets, since she does both the 1 mile and the 2 mile runs during a track meet (the first and last events).

Until I looked these up I pictured people with beans (like kidney and black beans) in a baggie! I had no idea they have little jelly bean type fuel!

I love the idea of oatmeal...I might have to try that out. I am so bad when it comes to eating before I run. I usually just get up, get dressed, drink a little water and get out there....I know that is not good for me but I really don't like a lot on my stomach when I start out.

i love oatmeal on a regular basis! I don't like the flavored packaged ones though so I buy the quick oats from BJ's and put a 1/2 cup into snack baggies so we just grab that and add milk and microwave it for 2:30. Then we add a teaspoon of brown sugar, dried berries, maple syrup and so on! So yummy and just an idea for you guys too!

It looks like you have a lot of races planned the next few months. I am jealous that you have so much to choose from! Sounds like fun for both you and Damien. I love that the 2 of you (Emily & Madeline, too) are doing this together. You are being a great role model. Just remember to take it slow.

Yeah I will keep it slow! I am hoping to walk the first 2 probably. We are lucky to have quit a few to choose from! Only problem is there are not too many when you get up in miles- like 1/2 mile and so on!

I hope your doctor visit does well tomorrow, and you get the news you are hoping to hear!

I think I will! I feel fine and other than not eating enough when I did a little exercise I haven't had any symptoms since I went into the hospital in September! So I am ready for her to hook me up to her machine!

I like this idea! You keep it on the phone or in an actual journal? The app I downloaded (because I couldn't get Galloway) has a place for a journal I may use that! And that app let's you input what you want the running/walking to be and I am following what Galloway wrote under the beginner page on the runDisney website- that 22 week 1/2 marathon training! Then I want to do the other 22 week 1/2 marathon thing he wrote up that says "just finishing"! I can't get him on my phone, but I will find a way :)

As for booking this vacation, I will not be booking through runDisney for many reasons. It seems like every Disney running board I read has horror stories about the experience. Also, it is my understanding that all runDisney offers is a slight room discount and there are no more discounts on tickets. Yeah, I am not booking through them either! I have a budget set from Kaung- he's paying for it through his side job money for our trip and *IF* I can save up enough from the bills money for my mother in law to come I will see about her coming... I am just so unsure about it! BUT she could stay in the hotel room with the kids while K comes and cheers me on at the race! I don't want to wake them just to cheer me on! Damien gets VERY cranky without sleep! If I could have her information so I can talk to her I'd appreciate that! I'd like to talk to a travel agent to get some ideas on to go the week before or after the race! maybe she can help me! The lady I used before my trip in 2011 doesn't do it anymore!

Costume Ideas

Never too soon to think about costumes. I already know what I am doing for PHM part of the race, but I would rather not share it right now. I knew as I finished my ToT trip report exactly what I wanted to do.

:guilty: I always have questions... sorry! i don't want to dress as a princess either, but talking to my sister she thinks I should do Tianna. I kinda like the idea, but feel weird about it and not sure I look good in green! What do you think?

5K
I really think I would like to be Fauna from Sleeping Beauty (green is my color)...anyone want to be Flora or Merryweather?

I would be willing to join in on that, but I am not sure I am going to do the 5K.. man that's 24.5 miles in 3 days?!?! :worship: I bow to you ladies doing it!

My sister wants me to be Pumba in honor of an old joke my grandfather made when I was younger! I like that idea of you and Ab matching! If she likes Rapunzel you could always be the Queen (forgot her name) and she could be Rapunzel! But then again she's a teen and I can't even get my 9 year old to agree to a costume! Otherwise, the Fairy Godmother is a nice idea too! I am thinking about maybe Dory for me... I forget everything all of the time and think it fits me well!

and for Ab she could be Cinderella I could get her the raw threads shirt and some matching shorts.

But her favorite Disney Princess is Rapunzel...so I doubt she will go for the Cindy idea. But I still like Fairy Godmother.

For Damien I am trying to convince him to be beast or charming, he wants to be Simba... go figure! And for Maddie I want her to be Boo! She was given a Boo doll when she was born and she loves to stare at it and "talks" to it! For her birthday I am getting her a minnie mouse tutu and shirt so I didn't want to do that again!

FUEL:
it's such a personal issue... everyone is different. I think the key for any new runners it to keep trying stuff to see if it works. I am still in this phase! :)

Yep, I was just curious so that I could get an idea of what to try! Like the sour patch kids I would have never thought of that!

Do water bottles fit on the sparkle skirt? i am not sure that I am coordinated enough to do the holding part without dropping it a few times!

That food plan sounds yummy!

Now someone says that it's normal for people to get sick in races.... Was this the first time for you?
I also think I need to eat more the day of. I was so worried about this as I tend to have stomach problems (TMI) when running otherwise.

Costume:I have the 10K. But not ready to share yet... it will most likely be my favorite of all of them...

Oh, another one I will have to keep an eye out for!

Half- I am torn between Elsa & Belle. I'm not really a 'princessy' type of gal.. so still unsure about this. Every other idea seemed wrong though based on the 'theme' of the 1/2.

For this race I have no idea! I am the same as you that's why I turned to my sister for help! I was thinking maybe even Mulan, she isn't a princess, but I like her personality!

Haunted 5K- NO IDEA

ToT- Hoping I can convince Hubby to do Pirate theme. This might be the ONLY theme he would agree to. SIL wants in on our theme too.. so it would be easy enough....

That sounds fun! I like when the people together do the themes together like that! Are you all in the same corral or no?

I know am going to have many, many questions, sorry in advance! But everyone runs in the corral they are placed in I get that, but are you allowed to wait at the finish line to cheer for the people behind you? I know I will be right near the end, does that mean any friends I have in the race can only see me away from the finish line? And when July 15th rolls around I sign up for all 3 (GSC, 1/2, 10K) right? Or just the GSC? And how long does the packet pick up and expo usually take someone? And are they in the same building? I just want to make sure I am there with enough time to wonder  Oh, and will I have to bring my son and daughter if they are doing the kids races or can I just pick up their stuff while they relax with DH? Or should I bring my 9 (then 10) year old? maybe he will want something... is there stuff he could want other than an "I did it" shirt?

Having just received my first sparkle skirt- TODAY (ta dum.. picture will be on my PTR!!).. I can say, I don't think you want to run with a water bottle stuck in that pocket although a small one would fit.

The water bottle I have had a handle around it & it slips over your hand so you don't really have to 'hold it'. The holder has a small pocket as well that fits keys, gel, etc... I like it.

It looks like this... (hard to see the pocket- it's small)

Or maybe I have the size up from this one- and that's why the pocket isn't visible..... it's pretty much exactly this though.

Honestly, I only trained up to 10 miles. So this WAS a first time getting sick for me running.. but that may be because I never ran that far before! :rotfl2:

Aww, I love Mulan. Then again, I have my own Chinese Princess at home (my daughter) so she's special to me....

We will probably not be in the same corral. SIL is way fast than me- she'll be ahead & this will be hubby's first race so he'll be behind me.. (but possibly may pass me!) It's all for the pictures before & after! Hahahaha!

Yes, you can wait at the end if you want... or right after the finish. They won't stop you from doing that.. least they didn't at the Wine & Dine!

July 15th sign up immediately for whatever you want to run. The rumor is the Glass Slipper Challenge (1/2 and Enchanted 10K) will sell out in hours. 10K may last a few days & 1/2 may last a few days. 5K will probably be open for a few months! THen again, last year Wine and DIne was open for 3 months & this year it sold out in 22 hours!

Expo can take as long as you want it to or as fast as you want it to. Depends on how much you wander and shop in between getting your packet. They are not in the same building. Bib pick up is in one building & then Shirt/vendors are across the sidewalk in another.

You can pick up your kids stuff & I'm not really sure there is 'kid's stuff at the expo- mostly runner items. ANd for the Princess, probably mostly geared towards women.

I can't wait though for it! So much fun!!!:yay:

Nice! I didn't know you had a PTR, I will have to hop over there too! I am planning on getting my first after I complete one of my goals! I get my first sneakers Sunday though as long as the Cardio Doc is okaying me!

Oh, I actually like that! I have a plan 24 oz pink water bottle I use that has a belt loop on it, but that's about it! I will have to see what they have at the running store when I go Sunday!

Honestly, I only trained up to 10 miles. So this WAS a first time getting sick for me running.. but that may be because I never ran that far before! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I am following Jeff Galloway's RD calender on the internet and he has you running I think it's like 19 miles by the end- by running I mean run/walk! I don't think that I can full out run a 13 miles!!!

Aww, I love Mulan. Then again, I have my own Chinese Princess at home (my daughter) so she's special to me....

Aww... my sister in law's newest daughter looks very Chinese! I guess that my husband's grandfather's genes came through fully on her!

We will probably not be in the same corral. SIL is way fast than me- she'll be ahead & this will be hubby's first race so he'll be behind me.. (but possibly may pass me!) It's all for the pictures before & after! Hahahaha!

It's always for the pictures :rotfl2:

Yes, you can wait at the end if you want... or right after the finish. They won't stop you from doing that.. least they didn't at the Wine & Dine!

:) So maybe I can have some cupcakes waiting for me

But if you sign up for GSC do you also sign up for 10K and 1/2 or signing up for GSC does that for you?

Thank you! Was wondering about that! I am giving him his own giftcard with money on it to buy stuff he wants, but I also wanted to buy him that "I did it" shirt for the kids! So maybe I will just get time with some of the cupcakes during the expo and leave them to do what they want back at the hotel!

If you sign up for Glass Slipper Challenge you are signing up for BOTH the 10K Enchanted & the 1/2. (you will only do one registration that registers you for both and then you get the special GSC medal in addition to the 10K & Half medals).

You can also sign up for each of the other three races separately. But if you sign up for them separately, you will not get the Glass Slipper Challenge medal. (even though you may have run it!).

GSC will be in most demand. Followed by 1/2, 10K & then finally 5K (my guess).

I do not believe there is a special medal for all three races run but someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that!

Therefore, if you want to really do all three races, register for Glass Slipper Challenge & then 5K. That's the way to do it!

Clear as mud?

I would think a 9 year old would be bored at the expo. I know mine would be! :)

How did it come out? My sister in law okay'd it for the cake :yay:

I have a few ideas for my kids! Nothing for me yet! My sister suggested Tianna since I love to cook, but I feel weird... and when I googled it I didn't see any ideas!

I will share a pic of each of my costumes in the next day or so from last month. Have to get them uploaded to Photobucket or Flickr.

Ahhhh! A Sparklesister!!! Seriously made me smile to see you say black silk and know what you were talking about! I wore mine for the PHM, under my pettticoat/costume! Cannot run without them...oh and I just started converting Nicole, so she'll be with us in no time. :lmao:

WOOT! Margaritas in Mexico are a must have, but my favorite is the Grey Goose slushie in France. I MUST have one...or three...every visit! ;)

MMMMM...Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush

Tammie, I would be willing to go in on the 5K Good Fairies costumes. Flora would be my first choice. I looked at a few ideas for it tonight, would be quite easy to do. Make it pink ;)

I am tossing around ideas in my head. Not sure if I want to do a princess at some point in the weekend or not. I chose NOT to do a princess last month because I thought it would be easier for my husband to spot me if I wasn't dressed like everyone else. I also noticed more people rooted for me since I wasn't the typical princess. I heard lots of "Go Jessie" ::yes::

Heather...Attempting to reply to your comments above (looks like Nicole did a great job explain the run part of it)....

The swelling of my ankle is better, really bruised right now and still hard to put weight on...so I am still going to stay away from running or walking until the bruising and pain are gone. Thank you for asking, you are right I do not want to end up in PT again...although secretly I really enjoyed the deep tissue laser and ultrasound treatments.

I am sure a lot of your issues on your first walk were because of nursing. Make sure you carry something with you and eat something before you start about 30 minutes.

Betsy gave me the sour patch idea. I had to laugh when you said you thought kidney beans...I am not a huge fan of the sports beans. They do not have the same texture or taste of a real jelly bean. I do like the gummy chews that I mentioned. Sour patch are great but my hands sweat and I get all sticky.

I know it was Disney and darn it I am not passing up dessert...I completely enjoyed both the almond crusted cheesecake the night before and the Masters cupcake the afternoon of the race. BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I CONTINUED TO HEAR IN MY MIND THE CONSTANT SCOULDING I RECEIVED ABOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT EATING SWEETS BEFORE MY RACE...you don't know how many times I got that lecture. I am sure glad I did not listen because I am still dreaming of those 2 desserts!

I am not a huge champagne drinker, but a little glass in celebration sounds great. Maybe carry a little bottle of orange juice an make a mimosa. I don't know anything about what is available to drink after the race. ARE WE STILL PLANNING A PRINCESS BREAKFAST for after the race?

I keep an actual journal...some of it is what I write for my weekly updates hear in the thread.

I think the reason you are not seeing a lot of races that are over 5K for the summer is because we are still a ways out from summer. Debra and I too are having that issue...but I know in a few months we will have lots to choose from. You may have to widen you search area some. I know I have to look in the Denver, Oklahoma City, Dallas areas for more choices for me.

I will facebook you the information on the TA...I love her and have used her for both of my trips and will use her again. But JUST DONT GO PYSCO ON HER. You can ask lots of questions and she will be happy to answer them, but allow her to do her job and not tell her how to do her job!

I am still leaning towards POFQ as my first choice to stay. I really like BC and might still try to rent in August after the Rome trip is over and I can see my budget again. If BCV was meant to be for this trip, then it is meant to be and I will find something in August.

I am thinking of using 5K as just a walk warm up to the 10K and PHM...just something fun to do. I think that is how Carol looks at the 5K...how she got Betsy to agree to the 5K before wine and dine.

As for the sparkleskirts and water bottles, no they cannot hold a water bottle in the pockets. But I have heard of a lot of ladies getting a small flask which will fit in the pocket for their water. :rotfl2: And I am really thinking about trying that...although I might shock a few people when I pull it out! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

As far as the corrals, I am not sure how the 5K or 10K work, but I assume the 1/2 is the same at ToT. You are placed in corrals according to time. I plan on submitting a 10K time so I know I will not end up in the last few corrals. For the ToT I was in the 2nd to last...I had no time to submit because of the stress fracture. Cammy was actually in several corrals ahead of me, but we decided that she would stay at the start with me and was allowed to run in the corral with me...you can move down in corrals but not up. I would hope that all of us are going to be around the same time, so we may end up in same corrals...because I would really like to run together...but we will just have to wait to see how that all plays out. I would like to cross the finish line together...maybe picking out a spot before the race for us all to wait at until everyone arrives...then cross together. I wonder if you can slip back on the other side of the finish line after you finish...whatever happens happens...would love for us all to meet up on the other side and have a group picture, too! Those questions will have to wait to be answered when we get our corral assignments in late January.

I love the Mulan idea for 5K and you can get Damien to be Mushu!!!!!

As for the expo, I think I was thrown in somewhat of a panic attack upon entering and my nerves where in high gear that I really did not do much but absent mindly wandered around the booths. I cant wait to really enjoy the experience and find all the neat photo opps I have been reading in TRs and Race Blogs...so hoping that this weight is gone and I will get in the pictures.

:thumbsup2 NICOLE
Great job addressing the race and expo information with Heather!

YAY...now we just need a MerryWeather! She is BLUE PEOPLE! I know the desire to be different then the crowd...and mine is different.

So how bad is it that we are just about 4 months away from our trip to Europe and I have very little planned...but I have my Sunday at PHM outlined...

Sunday, February 22
-Princess Half Marathon
-Princess Breakfast (Akerhaus or CRT)
-Cupcake Crawl
-Dress Up Dinner at Yachtsman
-JellyRolls until I drop

I am not a huge shopper and normally all I get as a remember of my trip is the album full of memories that I create. Sometimes, I get an ornament. But I ready have found some ideas beyond the scrapbook...

First of all, I want to do this with my bib!

Then I must get this ornament!

And finally, I want this for my car!

Here are some ideas Heather...

5K You and Damien could do a Monsters Inc Inspired Costume...

If you are Mike than you can mix a couple of your pieces into Tiana...

Tiana

Mulan

Tammie- where do you find those costume boards like that? Pinterest?
What do you search under? Like "Character" Running?

Looooove the monster one- so cute!!!

Your 'Sunday' plans look awesome! Hope to be part of them at times!!

And love that ornament- where is that from? The Expo? I must get one of those!!!
