Back to a little PHM planning. While on my recent holiday in Europe SW opened up flights for PHM time frame…so I took a little peek when I someone reminded me that they were up a week later. Needless to say I am less than thrilled with SW at the moment, but don’t have a lot of other options and heck I have a ton of points saved up in order to make the flights $0! SW is on my bad side because some law went out of date and they are no longer tied to my airport with a certain number of flights and schedules. I get that people in Dallas and Denver hate having to stop at my regional airport on their way to bigger and better places, but when you live about 6 hours from either one of these large airports it is really necessary to have convient flights! Well, SW is no longer flying to Denver as of November 1st from my airport and the flights to Dallas have been cut in half…basically early morning, midafternoon, and evening flight is all that is left. UGH…there is American and United but the costs with them are out of this world…enough whining because it won’t do any good and you just have to pull up your big girl panties at times and just make it work. Make it work is what I did for Cammy and myself….OUR FLIGHTS are booked but not without a lot of making it work as the flight that I really wanted was already booked (that is another bad thing with reduced flights, flights fill up fast). I usually like to flight stalk looking for the best deals before I book, but with the best option already gone I did not think I could wait (also trying to get rid of my OCD planning ways). Plus the fact that SW really has not had a lot of great deals lately when it comes to flying, despite the constant ads stating all the FARE SALES…which turn out to be for some airport you have never heard of from your airport that no one has ever heard of.
Here is how I made it work… Cammy and I will leave Tuesday night to fly to Dallas and then get a hotel room near Love Field overnight. Then on Wednesday morning we will take the EARLIEST flight to Orlando at 6:05 am, which is a direct flight and arrive in Orlando at 9:30…giving us a pretty full day of fun at WDW! Our return is a little bit more complicated as I had to book 2 separate flights in order to maximize our time at WDW...instead of having to leave at 8:00 am. This of course means that we will be limited to ONLY CARRY on bags for the trip and there will be no time to pick up bags and recheck in for our last flight. We leave Orlando at 4:10 pm, make a plane change in Houston and fly to Dallas arriving at 8:00 pm. Our second flight will then leave Dallas at 9:05 pm for home.
