PHL to MCO For 2 on AirTran for $237 - Tell me about AirTran

You will be assigned seats when you check in. You can check in online 24 hours ahead of time and get your seats then. If you don't check in until you get to the airport, they will assign you seats. The only time the 3 of us had trouble sitting together was when we weren't able to check in online ahead of time. That time we had 2 seats together and one in the row behind us.

I think they only have one or two models of planes. All the ones we've flown have 2 seats on one side of the aisle and 3 on the other. The seats aren't overly comfortable but it's tolerable. For some reason they always seem harder on the way home!

AirTran uses only Boeing 717's and 737's. The 717's seating is 2+3, the 737's are 3+3. And you're right, the seats ARE harder on the way home. I thought it was just me. princess:

Is it worth waiting a little bit for SW or should we book Airtran?

If we check in exactly 24 hrs. in advance will we be likely to sit together (family of 4) or does it fill up with people who paid more for reserved seats?

There isn't much difference between the two airlines IMHO, so I would book whoever has the cheapest flight at times you like.

We have never had a problem getting seats together....even when we checked in at the airport 2 hours ahead of time with a party of 6. We were all seated together.

I am a die hard US Airways patron out of PHL (and don't really know why), but couldn't pass up the deal I got for Christmas week with Air Trans. I have never flown with them either, but hear very little bad about them. The only thing I have heard is they tend to adjust their flight times frequently. I am keeping my fingers crossed with the times I have. They are exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like you got a great deal!

Thank you for the heads up on the great airtran ($49) prices!!!!!!! :woohoo: We were fortunate enough to grab them yesterday. I checked today and they are back up to $99.:sad2:

Our flights are $99 each way too....And I didn't check yesterday when you all had those $49 deals! We are traveling 12/19 - 12/30...I know these are busy travel times...any flight veterans able to tell me if there's much chance of getting them any cheaper? Or should I grab them while I can? Also AirTran veterans, any tips for the best flights? A certain day? So many days out? I've pretty much decided they are going to be our best bet from DFW, but now I must figure out do I buy now?

Thanks for the heads up, Bill! We booked our flights with AirTran for October, too. :thumbsup2 I was going to wait for Southwest DINGs, but now I don't have to. I only paid $50 more than I did for our last year's October flights that I got waiting and waiting for those $40 DINGs. (those didn't come out until the end of August!) I just hope our AirTran flight times don't get changed!!! I think AirTran becoming a participating airline with the Magical Express bag check-in is what won us over...

 WooooHoooo! We're going back to WDW!!!
