Saw it tonight on the local Fox news tonight. A guy claims he left his mercedes at Sunpark (they were outside of the Essington location) and went to California for a week. While he was in California, the car was involved in a hit and run accident ... in HARRISBURG!!!!!!!!!

The car sustained some damage, but he had the major hassel of coming back only to find out the Harrisburg police were looking for him in connection with the accident. He was able to prove he was in California at the time, based on car rental receipts and his hotel bills. Now the Philadelphia police are involved, and the man filed a theft complaint with them. He is also suing Sunpark.

Can you imagine?? I told DH the next time we go anywhere, we should record the mileage and make sure they mark it on my receipt.

Wasn't this an episode of Seinfeld? :p

Just kidding. Sounds to me like an open and shut lawsuit for the Mercedes owner to me. I'm assuming it's a valet parking lot? I've parked at offsite airport parking before but not valet and I've always taken my keys with me.

I did not see it, but we've used Sunpark in the past - it's been about 10 years, probably - and I think it is a self-park lot. Maybe that has changed. I sure don't remember leaving my keys with them. I'm never real keen about doing that and avoid lots that require it. There is more than one Sunpark, though - we used the one right next to the old Scott bldg. That's a shame - and I am sympathetic - (what a nightmare!!) - but I can't help but think of the scene in Ferris Bueller where the lot guy takes off in Cameron's dad's exotic car......

That's a shame if it is self-park. If the car owner didn't leave the keys, then the parking lot's liability is limited, and the car owner's going to eat a lot of the loss.

:rotfl: That's exactly what I was thinking!

Bicker, this Sunpark location (the Essington one) is a valet location. YOu leave your keys and they park the car. When you return, you call them, and they bring your car up and it is waiting at the front of the lot.

There is another Sunpark location at Scott Way. That one is self park only.

Yup, then the car owner's got a good case. Valet = parking lot is responsible. Self-park = car-owner is responsible.

FYI - Sun Park was sold (I think to AviStar) but the new owners didn't buy the Scott Way location.

We had always used this lot in the past because of proximity & being self-park (I refuse to give my keys). When I tried to pre-purchase parking vouchers on-line for an upcoming trip & wasn't able to, I emailed their customer service dept. That is where I got the above info.

If anybody knows who the new owner of Scott Way is please let me know.

Can't seem to find them on-line. Could you send me a web address or location for them?

Thanks!
