Phillies Fanatics are heading to disney 9/09 1st family trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How cool you got the costumes! We went to MNSSHP in 2006 and it was so neat seeing everyone dressed up. Sadly we were boring and didn't have costumes.

You could always just wear some Phillies gear and go as Phillies fanatics! haha! (I know, not very original but I remember we saw one HUGE group of people all wearing Colts jerseys...it was kinda cute!).

Back pack is fine for a personal item... We all take our carry on suitcase and a backpack...

I think DH has plenty of option for Toy Story costume!!! He can be Zurg, Little green alien, and Army man, the Prospector... How about Skud!!! The mean dog from next door... He can be Syd... Oh, how about a cup from Pizza Planet???

Okay i think I have rambled on enough... :lmao:

thank you so much for the great ideas. I didnt even think of some of these. My DH loves the idea of being sid. Its also a very easy costume to put together. Its the first time I saw him get really excited for planning something for our trip.:yay: Thanks again!

It sounds like you've been busy! I'm impressed you've got the kids' clothes all ready and know what you're bringing for yourself. I still have to MAKE all the boys' t-shirts, so I really need to get moving!!!
I think the backpack is just fine as a personal item. If it makes you feel any better, I think we are each bringing a backpack as our personal item, plus our real carry-on suitcases. I've heard Airtran is pretty loose on what constitutes carry-ons, and personal items are good to go as long as they fit completely under the seat. And have you noticed how huge the carry-on suitcase size is? 55 inches, compared to 45 on a lot of other airlines. That works well for us!
I wanted to mention that people on the transportation board were reporting that you could not use the $25 vounches for baggage fees, at least last I read. I was super bummed because that's exactly what I wanted to do too. If you find out anything differently, please let me know, because I'm only planning on 1 checked bag right now to save $$$!
Can't wait to read more!

I am so bummed if thats the case. I didnt read that about the baggage. If I find out anything differently I will let you know but your probably right. I was thinking of only checking in 1 bag but I am going to wait to see how much stuff dh wants to pack. By the way I called airtran and was able to get my booking # and book our seats. Remember I was telling you the TA said I couldnt do this ahead of time. There were not any seats that were even 2 together so I chose the side with 3 seats and had someone sitting in between us. I called airtran and they were able to move us and we now have the 3 seats on one side and the aisle seat right across so we are all together thank the lord:littleangel: one less thing I need to stress about now!

We thought of just dressing up the kids but are now going to dress up ourselves too. I knew we would regret it if we didnt. I am so excited for the party. Cool idea about the phillies but we wouldnt feel dressed up since we always look like that. :rotfl:

The decision is my DH will be sid from toy story.

Heres what we need to get: Black tshirt with skull on it
black jeans
black converse type sneakers

I will be Jessie: I looked at purchasing the cosutme and the lowest I found was 65$ I am going to try to make one instead unless anyone has any website that you know to get costumes very cheap.
Heres what I need A red hat and be able to sew white yarn around the
outside
White blouse and yellow material to sew on. red
ribbon to sew on top of the yellow
Jeans(I have these) and cow print material to sew
on.
/
I have brown sneaker/shoes that I can pretend are
boots
Well I better get to work. I hope to show you the finished projects soon. Thanks for all the help

Those sound like such cute costumes! I love the idea of your DH being Sid; that's too funny!

And yay for getting your seats all worked out. I know you were stressing about that, so at least that's one worry to cross off your list!

Hey there fellow Phillies and Eagles fan!!! First off, your family is too cute!!! We will be in Disney the same time as you!! We re staying at POP. Looks like from your intineray we will be at MK the same day as you! We are also going to MNSSHP on 9/25!!! :yay:

I think that you made a very wise choice in coming to Philly the day before your departure! The Renaissance Hotel is very nice, just make sure that you let the front desk know that you need a shuttle to the airport at a certain time so that it is there for you. If I remember correctly, I think the shuttle makes runs every 15-30 minutes. Luckily I live literally 5 minutes from the airport! I can tell you this, my sons father worked at the Renaissance for years so when we would travel to Disney in the past, we would leave our car at the hotel and take the shuttle to the airport to avoid paying for parking. It always worked out great for us. The ride from the hotel to the airport is 3 minutes top.

Hope this helps!

Hey, I am glad your DH liked the Syd idea... :)

Just a thought, and take it for what it is worth... Last year it was very hot while we were there, and jeans may be pretty uncomfortable... maybe you can "summerize" it just a bit and your DH can do shorts instead and you can do capris or something... We saw a guy in a Fred Flintstone costume, and he was miserable, and he said if it wasn't for the bare legs, he would have passed out... We saw him 30 minutes later and he was out of costume, he couldn't take it... So, depending on if you are used to that kind of heat and humidity, it may be uncomfortable...

Anywho... I checked for the costume and the cheapest I can find it is 47.23

Thanks for the great info. That is awesome that you live in philly right by the airport. What convienence. We have an airport 10 min from us and they do not fly non-stop. We always went with connecting flights but thought with the kids it will be easier non stop. Do you have a ptr?

Go EAGLES/PHILLIES

Yes this is what I worried about for months now. Is it still usually hot at night at the end of sept? Yesterday here it was 95 during the day hot and humid and by night it was still warm but a with a nice breeze. It seemed bearable to wear the outfits we picked. I am worried about the buzz cause its a little heavier of a material. I warned ds that when he chose that he might have to take it off if it gets too hot. He said ok so hopefully no meltdowns will happen. No pun intended.

Yes, we do love the convenience of being so close to the airport as well as the stadiums!!! :rotfl2: I agree with you, I will only fly non stop with my DS, too much hassle with connecting flights.

Unfortunately, I do not have a PTR... I was actually sitting here contemplating starting one while I was waiting for the Phillies to come on (P.S. I hate rain delays!) Were you lucky enough to go to any of the World Series games last year?? I was at game 5 when they won!!1 It was truly an experience I will never forget!!! Hence, earlier when I said I was thankful for living so close to the stadium, yeah, this girl had to walk from the stadiums, home the day of the parade b/c traffic was that bad!!! :sad2:

I saw by your title that your a Phillies fan, so I had to read. :goodvibes
I'm not a big fan of pro-football and my dad was a Steelers fan, so I hope you'll forgive me for that, though. :)
We're going to the World about the same time you are (leaving a few days after your trip ends), but I'm taking my two daughters and my mom (DH and DS are staying home this time). We're also flying airtran. I've flown a lot with my three kids and the trip to Orlando isn't bad at all if you're flying non-stop.
I think planning is half the fun!

Wow I heard the parade was crazy. At least you were in walking distance. We got to our 1st phillies game this year at citizen's bank park. We have been to lots before at the vet but since we have had kids our trips have come less frequent. We do try to get to an eagles game once a year. The past few times weve gone when its blistering cold and last year it was sleeting on us. Not my idea of fun but we got to experience eagles fever for the day. There is not where else like it. That is so awesome that you made it for game 5. Were you part of the crowd that had to return due to the rain delay? We were going to buy phillies tickets last year but my son wanted to go see the doodle bops at the local fair we have here and my dh couldnt say no so he gave up the $ for the phillies and got doodle bops instead. Now thats a dedicated father. I know it killed him inside. Hes an awesome dad!

So maybe you can help me out. We are planning to drive to philly around 2pm to the renissance. We are going to check in and swim a little to tire the boys out. Do they have places to eat at the hotel or around there?

thanks for reading! I wont hold it against you that your dad cheers for the steelers. Thats his own problem.:rotfl2: Just kidding. Are you also flying out of philly? Yeah I dont know what I would do if I had to make 2 plane rides to get there. My nerves would be shot:eek:

We're flying out of Harrisburg - the flight there is great - leaves at 11:00 a.m. and gets in around 1:30. The flight back leaves at 8 a.m., which means getting two kids up and ready to leave the resort at 6. Not so great. On the other hand, we get back home by around 11. We only live about 20 minutes from the airport.

Thought I would take a minute to share with you a picture of my first pride and joy.......DONOVAN
newpics7-09038.jpg

He's our 6 year old Chocolate Lab.

and I also have completed one item on the check list. My homemade autograph books. They are nothing fancy but the kids like them. They each have 40 pages and they are all multicolored. I thought after the trip I can take them apart and put the autographs with the pics in a scrapbook for each boy. Hopefully I can get that done before they move out and get married. Anyway here are pics.

I am now working on the pressed penny tubes and my little planner. I will post more pics when they are completed. Until then happy planning.

Yes it was quite the experience! And since it was halloween, I was a nervous wreck that I was not going to make it home to trick or treat with my DS! Yeah, I only had the chance to get to one Phillies game so far this year. It was against the Mets and totally worth it! I do love going to Eagles games too! My family has had season tickets to the Eagles for the past 10 + seasons, so I am used to the cold weather, heck we are in the parking lot tailgating by 8am no matter what time the game is! The year we won the NFC championship game against the falcons (there was a blizzard the night before the game) I was so freaking cold that my brother literally had to carry me back to the car because I thought my toes were going to break off! :rotfl2: And you are right, there is no experience like a Philly sporting event! I am so bummed, we sold our tickets this year b/c money was tight. At least we only sold them to a friend of the family so we can get them back next season if the money situation is better! God I sure hope it is!

Yes, I was one of the many fans that got to go to game 5 2x's b/c of the rain! It was nuts and I thank my lucky stars that I did not lose my ticket after the first night. You see, I am one of those people that lose there tickets the minute they walk into the game. Not sure how I manage to do it, but I always do! You do have a heck of a DH to give up the cash for his Phillies tickets to go see the DoodleBops! Ah the things we do for our children!!!

As far as eating is concerned, they do have a restaurant in the hotel, but it's a bit pricey and formal. If you want something quick there is a McDonald's down the road as well as a Ruby Tuesdays. You could also call and have food delivered to the hotel as well. I am sure the front deask has menus if you ask. Like I said not sure if you want a fast meal or a sit down meal so I'll give you directions to both places...

If you want to go to McDonalds go to the light to exist the hotel. At that light make a left. Follow that straight down, I think you will go thru 2 or 3 stop lights and the McDonald's is on the left hand side. There is also a WaWa further down the same road. That is on your left as well.

Now if you want to go to Ruby Tuesdays, go to the light as you exit the hotel and make the first right. Follow that road till you come to the first light (you are heading towards the airport) At that light, which I believe is Bartram Ave make a left. Follow that road and the Ruby Tuesdays is about a mile down on the right hand side.

Hope that helps! Oh and I did start a pre-trip report too! Pretty excited! :cool1:

We went to the phillies vs mets too. July 3rd. It was awesome. My dh would die for season tickets. Maybe someday. Thank you so much for the info I think something like MC'D's would be fine since we will be eating way to much in disney. We can stick with a light dinner. Thank you so much for the info it help tremendously with the planning. My dh will be excited to know I got directions from a fellow eagles fan! Are you going to any games at all this year. sucks about the tickets! Hopefully you can get them back next year. I will say a little prayer:angel:
I am going to check out your PTR today. Glad you decided to start it.
