I am looking for something to do with my 2 younger children over Spring Break (March 30 - April something) - my parents want to meet up with us for a few days so it needs to be somewhere between Albany, NY and Washington, DC. The only thing I can come up with would be either Philly or Lancaster. I know things to do in Lancaster but am at a loss if there are enough things to do with my kids (5 and 2) that time of year in Philly. NYC is out b/c we were there in October and are going back in May. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it - I hate planning things blindly and that is how I feel right now.

I don't recall if you mentioned the ages of your children, but Please Touch Museum is great, Philadelphia Zoo, Natural History Museum, Franklin Museum...lots to keep you busy.

Also check out www.gocitykids.com for some scheduled events.

Have you considered doing both?

There is so much to do in Philadelphia... Please Touch Museum. Camden Aquarium, Philadelphia Zoo..great museums, just strolling around the city can be educational and fun!

Lancaster is only about 1 1/2 hours away, so maybe a day trip could be possible?

The whole SE PA area is a wonderful destination with so many great things to do and see...Doing Lancaster and Philadelphia would be a great look at two very different ways of life all co-existing!!!

I hope that you have a lovely trip!

As others have mentioned, there are things to do in Philly with kids the age of your children (Please Touch, Camden Aquarium, the Zoo, and Franklin Institute are probably the big ones).

As well, the art museum is nice; it is free on Sundays so you can do a brief visit if it is not a good fit and still not be out any money. Plus, I am sure your 5 year old will enjoying running the steps :-)

There are also all of the historic places to see and most of those are free. We did a long day trip last spring just for the historic stuff with our kids and our younest was 4 - she did fine and enjoyed the day. There are all kinds of interactive things along the way.

While in the historic area we ate at City Tavern - that was fun (though not cheap) for all of us and oh so touristy :-)

What about the Liberty Bell? My kids enjoyed seeing it when they were young even if they didn't know alot about it. They would like seeing it now even more.

If the Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is open when you visit, it is a must do for Lanc County for kids 5 and 2. I'd also do an Amish buggy ride. Also, Dutch Wonderland would be perfer for their age if open. They do a "Springtime in the Park" opening at Easter and slect April weekends. Hershey Choc World is free parking and free entry. A cute diversion.
