Philadelphia and nearby DISers...quick question, looking for quick answer please

DH and I are going to Long wood Gardens tomorrow for the 4th (we are about 2 1/2 hours west of there). We are spending the night in Chadd's Ford and trying to decide what to do on Sunday. We crave the beach and thought about heading to Dewey Beach in Delaware for a few hours before going back home. That is about a 2 hour drive from where we are staying, then approx 4 1/2 hours home.

I kind of looked at Point Pleasant, NJ and Annapolis, MD as options, which are nearly the same distance according to MapQuest.

Any suggestion for a nice beach near Longwood Gardens area? We don't need a boardwalk or action and would rather be in a smaller, quaint, quiet town if possible.

What about Ocean City, NJ. I am not sure where Longwood Parks is though. Ocean City does have a boardwalk but over all is rather quiet. It is also a dry city.

Ocean city nj would be too far from Longwood Gardens.. since Longwood Gardens is closer to DE. I would consider a DE beach or maybe even Cape May versus Ocean City NJ.

There is Ocean City MD which may be closer.

We live in northeastern Maryland, about an hour from Longwood and 2 hours from the Delaware beaches. We went to the ocean today and it was incredibly crowded, worse than I have ever seen it and we go quite often. At 11 AM, 3 ocean swimming beaches were already closed due to being at capacity. We finally got in one at 2:30.

Not to dampen your good time but I would hate for you to drive that distance and then end up the way we did.

Thanks for the information. We are still unsure what we will do tomorrow....beach, Philadelphia, who knows. Whatever it is will be on a whim! I'll check back tonight and see if anyone else has a suggestion.
