Greetings!

(I sat here for 5 minutes trying to figure out how to start this and all I came up with was "Greetings!")

I've been a lurker here for a few years now, randomly posting comments, but mostly reading (pre)trip reports and giving/getting advice on Disney. I figure that after spending as much time as I do thinking/talking about Disney, that I should probably just go ahead and start a pre-trip report.

The Cast

ME (30):
disney09043.jpg

Petey- Not my real name, but it's what Mikey calls me on a regular basis. I work a 9-5 job with a 1/2 day off per week and occasional work at home days. Today is my 1/2 day, so I figure that I should get this thing started.

Favorite ride- Peter Pan
Least Favorite ride- Great Movie Ride
Likes- Short lines, chicken caesar salads, and anything totally cheesy (I'm very sarcastic/cynical, so my friends/family find the Disney obsession as somewhat odd).
Dislikes- screaming children
Favorite Disney Moment- Accidentally walking into the GF to hear Celine Dion perform for the taping of the Christmas Parade. I'm not a huge fan of her, but she can sing live.

Sidenote- I'm soaking wet in that picture (January 2009). Some of you may remember the cold snap at the end of the month. Well, we rode Splash Mountain in the morning with no ponchos and then decided it would be a good idea to ride the TTAPM (Is that the abbreviation now? I'm so confused). It was not a good idea. Freezing.

DP/DH/WHATEVER (32):

Mikey- Not his real name either, but what I call him on a regular basis. He also works a 9-5 job but doesn't get 1/2 days off or the ability to work at home. This entire Disney-thing is his fault. He encouraged me to book our first Disney vacation in January 2008, prior to buying our 1st house. The rest is history.

Favorite ride- Splash Mountain/Soarin'
Least favorite ride- None. I think he likes them all, but that'll probably change when we finally go on Stitch for the first time this October. :rotfl:
Likes- Soarin', being calm/collected
Dislikes- Abbrasiveness
Favorite Disney Moment- Watching Petey run down Main Street trying to get to PPF. So what if I pushed a few small kids over? j/k

Sidenote- He lost 40+ pounds since Easter through healthy diet and exercise, solely because of a stupid competition with my brother. He looks nothing like this anymore.

Background

We've been together for almost 5 years, and we live a fairly normal, mundane existence. We bought a house a few years back, right before the economy took a nose-dive, and currently have a bunch of roommates:

Medusa.jpg

Medusa (8)- Not really a friendly cat, but I love her.

009.jpg

Chandler (8) and Joey (3)- Joey's on top of Chandler. This isn't abnormal. He's cleaning Chandler.

Sydney3.jpg

Sydney (3)- 1/2 Siberian Husky, 1/2 something else (shepherd?). She's smaller than she looks and is full of energy. The sweetest dog I've ever been around.

The cats will stay at home and be watched by a neighbor, and Sydney will get to go to her pet resort. She loves it there, and I think that she would rather live there than here. Whenever we pick her up from the resort, she whimpers in the back seat and stares out the back window as we drive away.

The Plan

So, we're staying for 6 fabulous nights at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (thanks to a 40% off pin). As you can see in my signature, we've stayed at POP (1/08), POR (1/09), and CBR (12/09), so we decided to splurge this go around since I forsee the deals becoming less frequent as the economy improves. We spend very little time at the hotel, but I made a promise to Mikey that we would go to the pool and take this trip at a slower pace. We'll see how that goes. We spend as much time at each of the parks as we can in a given day, and this usually results in shin splints.

Sidenote- We also went to Disneyland in January of this year for 3 days. Amazing time. Strongly recommend.

I'll probably use this trip report to share more about where we're going to eat, how we plan on spending our days, and other random things. It'll be fun.

And I promise to do a full trip report. Promise. Pinky swear.

:wave2: Hello there! Nice start to your report. Peter Pan is my favorite ride too. We are going to be there Oct 28th to Nov 12th so I look forward to reading about all your fun plans!

As of now, we have ADRs at a few restaurants. This may change, as it typically does, but I'm hoping to enjoy a few meals on the DDP.

Day One- Via Napoli (Dinner)
Day Two- Le Cellier (Lunch)
Day Three- Boma (Breakfast)
Day Three- Liberty Tree Tavern (Dinner)
Day Four- Grand Floridian Cafe (Dinner)
Day Five- Tusker House (Lunch)
Day Six- 50's Prime Time Cafe (Lunch)

We've eaten at Le Cellier and 50's Prime Time Cafe, but the rest are all new to us. Mikey is a picky eater, so all dining options are cleared by him. Maybe if I think happy thoughts, I'll get to eat at Jiko someday.

You will love the AKL- amazing! :lovestruc Seriously. I too am trying to go less commando and enjoy more resort time. AKL is worth slowing down for. Boma is fabulous. :thumbsup2

Yeah, there's something completely great about that ride. More plans to come, I promise.

Very cool. That's why we chose AKL, though part of me doesn't want to go less commando since I really love the parks.

I plan on posting my schedule soon, but I wanted to share with all of you one of my favorite pictures that I have taken. No photoshopping involved at all. I promise.

By using my Disney Visa, we got a small discount on the following tour:

(Again, this is also one of my pictures)

The thought behind this was to add a little more "different" to this vacation since we've never been on a tour before. While I am very clumsy and have a habit of tripping over my feet (I'm VERY tall), I'm really looking forward to this part of our vacation.

We're also planning on doing the Behind the Seeds Tour since I figure that we should do something mildly educational on this vacation, too.

This vacation cannot come soon enough.

So... I'm kind of OCD. Well, I'm actually very OCD when it comes to planning. We hardly ever stick to the plan, though, because we see something we want to do ("Hey. Look. It's Shiny!") and we go do it. This method has worked out well for us in all of our trips because I can calm my nerves by having a plan, and then I can throw the plan right out the window. Also, we have NEVER done evening extra magic hours, but we figure that we should try it once and see if the crowds drive us nuts. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You'll note that there is no time for DTD. We'll end up there. Multiple times. I don't know when, but we always do. I need to pick up Christmas presents for the nephews/neice, so that's a Stacey Must-Do at some point.

So, drumroll..."The plan...that will be thrown out the window":

And put up Christmas Decorations for Trick-or-Treating

You're putting up Christmas Decorations for Trick-or-Treating?

Yes. For a few reasons:

1) It'll still be somewhat warm outside, and we won't be trying to hang Christmas lights in 30 degree weather in December.
2) We go all out. Candles in the windows. Christmas lights on the house (all white). And we wear Santa hats. Play Christmas music. And hand out candy to about 200+ trick-or-treaters.
3) Parents of trick-or-treaters just start laughing, and the kids look totally confused.

Pretty Pictures! I love that you are putting up your Christmas Decorations for trick or treating!! Too too funny. Your schedual looks nice, that Segway Tour looks really fun.

Rental car: We currently have a Budget rental car for the week at around $200 or so. I'm hoping that we can get a last minute deal closer to our vacation, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I'm also toying with the idea of doing another tour, but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

So, I hit the two-month mark, and I really don't have much else to plan. That said, if anyone has suggestions for a new digital camera, please let me know. I love taking pictures at the parks, and plan to do so for our trip report this go-around.

Also, I'm a little sad that I won't be able to see the following when we're there in October:

So, I managed to get a LeCellier reservation for Sunday night (not the best steak ever, but I like starting my week out with a solid steak) when playing around with the reservation system on Sunday night...

So, dining reservations are now:

Day One- Le Cellier (Dinner)
Day Two- Via Napoli (Lunch)
Day Three- Boma (Breakfast)
Day Three- Liberty Tree Tavern (Dinner)
Day Four- Grand Floridian Cafe (Dinner)
Day Five- Tusker House (Lunch)
Day Six- 50's Prime Time Cafe (Lunch)

Only 18 days or so... yay!

So, I knew that the plan posted above would be thrown out the window, hence its name...

That said, there have been some changes that I've highlighted below.

Looks fun!
What are your reservations on the EMH? I love them personally especially the night time ones. I am so excited to get to do the Animal Kingdom ones this year!! I am dying to ride Everest in the dark.

So, I checked in for my flight this morning online. And...

We upgraded to 1st class for a total of $178. When you factor in the fact that we don't have to pay the luggage fees that we were going to pay, this comes to around $60/person. And when you're 6'8" and 6'6", this means the world to me. I've never flown 1st class, so this will be a nice break from cramped quarters.

And to add, we were bumped a few weeks back to a returning flight an hour later, in return for $200 travel vouchers each. We didn't have to, but $400 is $400. :)
