Pete's Souvenir Rant

I'm new to the DIS Unplugged, having just gotten an iPod for Christmas, and "the sick show" was one of my first podcasts ever. He (pete, right?) mentioned Ft. Wilderness did not have resort-specific t-shirts. Well, I stayed at 2 different resorts the past 18 months, and got resort-refillable mugs at both, and they're the same mug. (seems to me an *easy* resort-specific souvenir for Disney). But the one souvenir I REALLY wanted my most recent vacation was a Mickey (or Disney) Belt. I checked at the POR gift shop, the Emporium, DHS, and 2 gift shops at Animal Kingdom. Emporium had a brown leather belt, but no Disney styled belt. Ties, socks, shirts, cuff links, and wallets were everywhere, but no belt?

And in 1998, I bought a Scrooge McDuck money clip at World of Disney. I lost it, and I was hoping to replace it. No such luck on that either.

Anyone else looking for a *specific* Disney World souvenir they just can't seem to find?

Disney has cut back on the stuff a lot in the last several years....there is a website..I think it's called Disney Parks Merchandise....I saw a lot of things there...good luck

It definitely can be frustrating not finding a souvenir that you are really looking for. I have experienced this many times. I'm hoping this will change soon.

I agree with Pete. I played golf at one of the Disney golf courses, Osprey Ridge I think it was, and I wanted to buy a shirt as a souvenir. You would think that a shirt with a golf course name on it would be great advertisement, but all of the shirts that they had, just had plain Disney logo's on them. Very disappointing.

Not that I'm questioning Pete's rant, but we were at the Wilderness Lodge back in January '10 and hubby was at Grand Californian in October '10 and both places had tons of resort specific merchandise.

I've seen this discussion before and some people have questioned that perhaps the DVC resorts are the ones still getting the merchandise.

As for a hard-to-find souvenir, I didn't get a POFQ pin on our first trip in '05. You can no longer get POFQ specific pins. They are a generic POR pin that doesn't reflect the New Orleans theme that made the place so special for us.

And don't get me started on the refillable mug!!! I used to always buy the refillable mug back when it was a resort-specific mug. Now that they are the generic ones, that's $15 of my money that Disney isn't getting!

Personally, I have not bought something that says DL and DW merchandise. I want something I can get only at DW.

Of course I weird and I don't don't like pins that come from DL or another Disney resort when I am trading pins because I have not been there. My DS thinks it is cool when they get a pin from another park they have visited and that is fine, I just don't like them. JMO

We just returned Sunday from Disney and I found the selection was much better than our trip in August. Not sure if this is just the normal inventory turn over or what but I bought way more than I would have anticipated.

We stayed at the Yacht Club and the only things they have that are resort specific is a matted picture and a pin. I'd love to buy a t-shirt or magnet! A previous poster mentioned WL and I'll agree they are the exception TONS of resort specific stuff there. They had a wall of t-shirts, etc. For whatever reason it appears that it sells enough to warrant it there but not other resorts?
