Peter Pan's Flight AP Previews Mon & Tues

I knew I should have waited until Monday to take my son instead of going Friday. Darn it! Oh well. We'll be there in August.

It just so happens Monday is my birthday, so I'm in! I had no plans to go that day, but I figure that an AP-only line has to be shorter than an AP + Everyone Else line starting Wednesday, right?

Not necessarily. I waited longer for the Little Mermaid AP preview than I did a few days later when the ride opened. But it was obvious the ride was having issues as they cleared the queue when it stopped and we're closed for 30-40 minutes. Then it stopped for several minutes when I finally did get to ride. They may not be running the ride at full capacity for a preview. Generally if I'm only planning to go for a special event I just figure I'm investing the extra time for that event. Then anything else like riding other rides or seeing a show is a bonus.

That's good to know! How long were the lines for the Little Mermaid AP preview? Just curious.

I don't remember how long exactly, I think it was more than a 2 day preview, though. After waiting 30 minutes for the ride to come back up we had to wait in a line to have our APs scanned (have done other previews where this took a minute with only a few people, but this time it was a long line) and then the line extended all the way down to the end with the switchbacks and most of the queue used. It might have been 20 minutes, not sure, it felt longer. When I went back the day after it opened there was briefly a long line that extended to Golden Zephyr, but moved much quicker. They gave FP to on site hotel guests, so that slowed it a little. Then I went back 2-3 days later, so the ride had been open 5 days, and walked right into the building. I expect Peter Pan to be more like Alice, which I don't think had an AP preview. The line was consistently 45 minutes for a good month, which is only 5-10 minutes longer than usual, but about the maximum amount of time people want to be squished into that little space. With Peter Pan typically running 40-60 minute waits I can't imagine most people putting themselves through more than 75 minutes of that line, 90 the first few days. But I think there are enough APs willing to wait an hour that you'll see it at least that long in the morning and after work hours. It can be kind of hard to predict what exactly people will come out early and line up for and what the capacity of an event will be. I remember the Baymax preview filled up very quickly during the AP preview but PFF wristbands stayed available all day.

The changes to the ride seem fairly minimal. Probably not even on the scale of the Alice refurb. I don't know how many people will turn out for this. But it IS Disneyland, so there could be mobs of AP holders there. If this was a new ride, the place would be a mess.

What are you basing that opinion on?

From what I have read, it is really only a change to the nursery scene and I think it is a lighting change and Peter Pan's shadow. Disney Parks Blog had a post about it on Friday. There could be more than that, but that is what they have talked about online and in new articles. Until we see it, we can only go by what they have revealed.

There was a cast member preview when we were there Friday. One of the royal guards at Fantasy Faire came back saying how great it was and telling the other cast members they just had to go.

I just rode it, and am in line to ride again (15 min wait). First impression confirms my previous post about the changes being minimal. New nursery additions and effects. New special effects lighting in a few scenes. Updated audio tracks. Cleaned-up queue. That's about it. The key for me is I wasn't expecting a lot from such a short refurb. Nice to have this classic back.

I just watched a video of the refurb on youtube. I'm not there, but I'm glad I didn't drive out. It's still a great ride, but I don't understand why the refurb took so long. The changes really are minimal compared to what they did with Alice.

We also rode it this morning. I'll add that the ride definitely seems less bumpy than before. The "flying over London" scene is also much brighter than it was, so it is easier to see the cars moving about and other details. One nice touch, which I think is new, is that there are miniature characters (Peter Pan, Wendy, etc.) on one of the clock faces of Big Ben.

We also checked out the "Peter Pan window" on mainstreet. Quite nice, although because of the glare kind of hard to see. We'll be taking another look when the sun goes down, should be much less glare then.

We rode it this morning at around 10:30. The wait was 25 minutes, which I thought was pretty decent (shorter than on a regular summer day, I think). As reported above, the changes are not huge, but I enjoyed them :-)

We went back at a little after 3:00, and the line was much longer. I'd estimate it was about 45 minutes long, as it was not all the way out to the "50 minutes from this point" sign. We opted not to wait...just too long for a second ride, and it was really hot in that line. No air circulating, and lots of people crammed into a very tight queue. I'm glad we went in the morning!
