Peter Pan/Great Value peanut butter recall!!!

The recall is exactly why I'm on the computer so early this morning. We have at least 4 jars that are affected. What a pain.

I heard this last night and checked, its all Skippy for me.

Yikes!! That's the kind we use.

I couldn't find anything about batch numbers or anything in the OP's link, so I googled and found this.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to eat certain jars of Peter Pan peanut butter or Great Value peanut butter due to risk of contamination with Salmonella Tennessee (a bacterium that causes foodborne illness). The affected jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter have a product code located on the lid of the jar that begins with the number "2111." Both the Peter Pan and Great Value brands are manufactured in a single facility in Georgia by ConAgra. Great Value peanut butter made by other manufacturers is not affected.

I checked my jars (two big ones from BJ's) and they had the 2111 code. :scared1:

Into the trash they went

I checked and we have 2 jars with that product number on the lid. One was the one we had just finished and we are fine.

we have at least 2 and i opened one of them sunday, ate it for lunch monday and spent all day yesterday sick to my stomach, and i'll be checking the rest of what is in the cabinet...

the articles are telling us to save thelids for refund? is there any further info on what to do witthem?

I also have 4 jars....two have about half left. Obviously Im going to throw it out but would I save the lids and how does one get a refund? This is a first for me to have to respond to a recall.

Found this # from the above article
Consumers who have questions should contact ConAgra at 866-344-6970

ETA: If consumers have this product, they should discard it, but save the product lid. For a full refund, consumers must return the Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter product lid along with their name and mailing address to:

ConAgra Foods
P.O. Box 57078
Irvine, CA 92619-7078

Thanks for the phone number. We have two jars which have the 2111. :sad2:

Thanks for pointing that out MAKmom. I will be sure to send my lids in for the refund. I thought we could take them back to place of purchase but maybe not?

Darn, darn, darn! I only buy Peter Pan too and of course the jar I have already eaten half of is affected. I was wondering why I had been having some lower GI upset for the past few weeks. Ugh.

I have this peanut butter. They are saying to mail the lid in, but won't it cost about the price of the refund to mail it in?

I was thinking the same thing, since the only reason I bought it was it was on sale with a coupon, I know I paid under a dollar for it.

I only have 1 jar left, and know we ate at least 3 of them already.

Thank you for posting this. I just tossed a barely eaten jar in the trash.

Ooh, I can't remember what brand I have in my cabinet! I will have to remember to check when I get home today.

I have a jar with the 2111 on the lid, and my son has consumed 3/4 of the jar since I bought it about a month ago!

My DH had it two days ago and is having stomach cramps and diahrea(sp)...no fever...feels like he has to throw up but has not. Should I be concerned. Does anyone have any experience with this? I almost didn't even check my peanut butter...lol. TIA for any information.
