I would like to go to Peter Island when we stop in Tortola and would love to hear from anyone that has done this on their own since Disney doesn't offer an excursion there. How difficult is it to catch the ferry that travels there? Do you need your passport to go there? How far from where the Fantasy docks to the ferry? Any kind of help and advice would be appreciated! Thank you!!

We honeymooned on Peter Island in 2007 and hope to make a day trip there on our cruise too. It's a private island though there is a ferry from Tortola that you pay for-- schedule is listed online with the other ferry schedules.

I spoke with the resort about my idea and they currently allow day guests but with limitations. Their policies may be changing so they said to call/email again near the end of summer (my cruise is in sept). They were very thorough via email and on the phone so you should reach out to them for the best and most direct info.

Suggest you reach out to them for the full scoop and understand what amenities you can and cannot use as a day guest.

It's heaven, one of my favorite places on earth-- but exclusive and they don't want a ton of people coming over daily so definitely understand how to get there, prices, and where to go if you can do it on your trip.

Here is the official info from my email -- I still encourage anyone interested in visiting to make their own inquiry for most accurate info:

"Day visitors to Peter Island take the Peter Island Shuttle from Road Town Harbor, CSY (offered 10 times daily; ferry schedule is attached). Lunch guests (children’s menu options are available), and beach goers are charged $20/person, roundtrip for the ferry. Cost is due at the Peter Island Ferry dock, payable in cash only.

Day visitors are welcome to enjoy the full services at our 10,000 sq ft Spa (reservations required), are encouraged to dine at either restaurant and bar (reservations required), may shop at the Peter Island Boutique, and are able to access Little Deadman’s Beach.

The main pool, Club Room, Deadman’s Beach, Honeymoon Beach, White Bay Beach, basketball/tennis courts, fitness center, and water sport equipment and towels are all reserved for overnight Resort Guest usage, only. To make Dining or Spa Reservations, please call the Peter Island Resort Front Desk, 1.284.495.2000.

This is our current policy. Please note, due to a high volume of day visitor requests, we will be changing this policy, effective soon. Please check back in August to ensure if this policy or our new policy will be in place."

Thank you so much for that! It is very helpful! I've been hearing about Peter Island for a very long time from friends that have been a few times and thought it would be great to finally see it in person. I wanted to make a lunch reservation there and just explore the resort. I will definitely call them. Thank you again for your help! We are on the Sept 10th Fantasy, so perhaps we will see you there!

Would you happen to know about passports? I've always done excursions with Disney so I've never had to worry about passports. Would I have to have it with me to get on the ferry since I won't be with a Disney group? I know it may sound like a silly question, but I've not had to think about this before.

No, since you are traveling within the BVI from one island to another. You aren't going through customs, just hopping on a local ferry.

However-- I would (I will) bring it. If we are able to visit Peter Island we aren't with Disney for that day. Should anything occur to delay our getting back on the Fantasy, or heaven forbid a medical emergency, you must have a passport to get back to the USVI/meet the boat in St Thomas or fly out of Tortola. It's a good thing to have to mitigate some of the risk of venturing out on your own, IMO.

And we are Sept 24 sailing so come back and post if you get to my very special place before me!

Drink a guava colada and a painkiller.
