I'm game, I've been lurking as you can see from my join date since 2002. I frequent the boards & read them, I am a loyal Dis Unplugged fan! Never miss an episode!

Confessed lurker here though I've come out of my shell with my posting. I guess at 26 I feel a little out of place on the boards (even though I know there's probably tons of other 26 year olds out there). Love the podcast and look forward to it every week. I only wish I listened more before I took my Jan '09 trip and could've met some other people. It's so weird too because usually when I listen to podcasts (say sports ones) I have an idea of what people look like. I have no idea what Walter, Julie, Pete etc look like. It's kinda unique to listen to someone talk for months but not know who they are. If we ever met I promise not to freak out! Thanks for all the work everybody does.

To all of the ECV and wheelchair users....

Rest assured that this is not something that we will ever stop talking about.

I think most folks that dont live with this on a daily basis are unaware of the small minority of people that make this so uncomfortable.

I think that the more people that are made aware of this....the more we will have people who will turn to these vocal idiots and ask "do you even hear the crap coming out of your mouth?"

The vast majority of folks are friendly, understanding and accommodating.

As I said.....we wont stop addressing this issue.

Hello to all the Lurkers who have posted!!! I'm a semi-lurker - I read more than post - but getting involved here on the boards is always fun. I've loved adding DISer's as my Facebook friends, too. If you are on Facebook, look for the thread that lists all of us who are on there.

I've recently become thrown into the issue of accessibility as my dad broke his hip in January and is facing a long recovery. He is now using a walker, but if we ever go somewhere where a lot of walking is required, he will need a wheelchair or ECV (convincing him of it will be another issue!). Just by taking him places with his walker has been a real eye-opener. People just STARE like crazy. We've been out to eat a couple of times and the servers become all flustered around him. It's opened our eyes to how those with disability issues are treated. I just tell him to hold his head high and if anyone gives him a funny look to whack them with the walker!!
