I love the thread Blondie started about pets. I was so touched by DisneyDragon's dog kissing her son "goodnight".

It made me think about sharing stories about our pets. I'm fairly new to the disboard. I'm not sure if this has been done before. If so - let's do it again.

One Christmas morning we had a houseful of relatives and friends opening gifts. The room was full of enthusiastic, festive people. We were all in a happy frenzy. You've been there - you know what I mean.

Our Brittany spaniel, Brittany (what else????) couldn't contain her excitment. She ran upstairs and returned with one of her stuffed toys. She dropped it at my feet, and hurried back upstairs to get another toy. This one she gave to my son. Back upstairs for another - she gave her toys away until she had run out of them.

What a sweet Christmas treat that was. She understood what was happening and wanted to be a part of it. Naturally she had many hugs and treats herself that morning.

Don't you just LOVE animals?????

Awwwwwwwww thats the sweetest story.

I think my best story involves both of my pets. Shortly after adopting a kitten from the shelter, it was sleepy time for both of them. My doggie laid down & went to sleep and my newly-adopted kittie curled up right by her tummy and it was the cutest thing! They still sleep that way!

A few years ago, my son was climbing a tree. He was only about 8 feet off the ground, but here was my Weimaraner, standing right underneath of him. He didn't move until my son got out of the tree!

I don't know where else to put it, so here's a few more pics of lady doin' her thing....

Lady tried to be a pro soccer player, but she just flattened the ball. She was kicked off the team. (BTW, yes I know, that's my sock. the cat drug it into the picture.)

This made her mad. Very mad!

so she ate the coaches' sandals and she was put back on the team! YAY!

Hey JoNo, does your Weim 'suckle' anything? Our first Weim liked to suckle blankets (it looked like he was nursing on it!) Shiloh does it only to pillows! He's gone through several! I found out that it's a common trait among Weimaraners!

Here my boys lined up some of their Beanies on him. He never moved a muscle!

Ya know I don't think i've seen her suckling on any pillows or anything. She just bites them! Had that've been lady in the pic with the beanie babies let's just say none of them would've lived to see another day...

In my college days I had gotten a Lab/Shepherd mix. She was the best and smartest dog I had ever seen.

To make ends meet, twice a week I would head to a friend's large acreage and clear trees that I would then sell for firewoood. I always went alone because I didn't want to have to watch out for her while I was working.

After several "puppy-dog-eye" treatments I fell and took her along. She was like a rifle shot out of the cab of the truck when we reached the land. The entire time she was nothing but a blurr running here and there, trying to explore the whole 200 acres in one run. She'd only stop when I took a H2O break.

On many of these trips I took a 12 gauge shotgun as a snake-charmer and she and I would go "hunting". Never hunted anything, it was just fun exploring with my best bud.

One day as I headed for a stock tank, she stopped and from across the field she flew over to me like a bolt of lightening. Stopping dead in front of me and not letting me go forward. Push her as I might she was a statue. Then the rustling grass caught my attention as a water mocassin came shooting between her legs heading for mine. How I ever managed to jumped up, spin around and shoot that snake before my feet hit the ground I'll never know. But I do know if I would've kept on walking blindly, I would've stepped right on that snake.

Just one of many times she saved my tookiss.

OMG, I've got a long pet story to tell!
I had a blue smoke persian that was like my child (she is now deceased) and she went EVERYWHERE with us. One year we went to Gatlinburg TN and stayed in a log cabin. Well, of course we had to take Blue, even though there WAS a NO PETS policy;) (trust me, this wasn't the smartest thing to do!)
Well, Blue liked to "hide" from us when it was time to go. It usually wasn't a problem because we could just move a chair or bed and catch her. On this partcular morning of our departure, Blue ran in the door of the jacuzzi tub, (that somebody had left open! ) This "door" was about 6 inches x 6 inches, so needless to say we could NOT get in there to get her out. We were supposed to be out of the cabin at 11:00 and it was now 11:10! I knew it was time to call the office and fess up to the manager. She was so pissed at me and told me she was sending a repairman up. She also said that if the jacuzzi had to be ripped out, we would have to pay for all the expenses. I agreed and apologized profusely for being such a jerk and bringing my cat.

Well, the repairman got there and we spent 2 hours trying to coax Blue out with food and meowing. Yep, it was time to start tearing the jacuzzi apart. After he had torn the entire jacuzzi apart, he told us that it had a terrible leak that had rotted the flooring beneath it and it was a GOOD thing our cat ventured in there.:hyper:

To make a long story shorter, the rental company actually THANKED us and didn't make us pay a DIME!!!:teeth: All, I have to say is, we really lucked out! And we NEVER take pets on vacation with us anymore!:wave2:

We have two dogs - sisters, littermates. Their names are Buttercup and Daisy, and they are Chihuahua/Yorky/whatever's. They are pretty small and VERY overweight. They always just kind of lay around, when they're not giving us "kisses" (or baths). They've never done anything heroic or sweet. I'm not even sure if Buttercup knows she's a dog, but we love them anyway, and they're our babies. Buttercup has done some pretty funny things. She sits up on her butt, kinda like a prairie dog, and watches TV, or just looks around. When she was younger, we used to dress her up in babydoll clothes, and she just sat there. I think she liked it. We even painted her nails once. She doesn't mind. It's hard to believe she's a dog. She seems more like a wierd, furry, mutated baby creature. It just goes to show that you can be whatever you set your mind to.

Daisy is the complete opposite. She is always on her guard. She doesn't tolerate nonsense, unless she gets to be the center of attention. When my mom (CDoobee) is on the computer, she will sometimes jump up on the desk, and put her paw on the mouse, or sit down on the keyboard... These are our silly little dogs, they're just too cute.

When I went into the pet shop to just browse, I was immediately drawn to this one crate. It housed the cutest two puppies, one was a pretty little female cocker spaniel and the other was my guy, a 3 month old male beagle. The girl working in the shop told me they were best friends thats why they were in the same crate. Well since it was love at first sight, :lovestruc the beagle came home with me. But he would need to go back the following week for his final shot. After some serious consideration, I came up with the name Ricky. The next week we went back for his shot, and who should come in, but the pretty little cocker spaniel with her new owner and his partner. Well what do you think the guys named the pup, yep it was Lucy. This was 10 years ago and we have gotten together over the years for "play dates" and we always exchange Christmas & Birthday cards between Ricky and Lucy. ANd when we do get together, its amazing how well these 2 dogs get along. It really is like they have this memory of bonding as pups.
