Pet Stores, Puppy Mills, Animal Shelters and all those *Poo* doggies.

Actually, my dog is not a barker. I am home all summer, so I do know how he acts during the day. He does run down the fence line with the neighbor's dog, and they are always "kissing" through the fence but rarely barks unless there is a reason, like a dog walking by on the street or someone entering our property. The only time he barks other than that is at night, which is why I bring him inside during that time. We go for two walks a day, so he gets plenty of exercise, which is probably why he is more mellow. When workmen come over to work in the back, I have to DRAG him inside. He really enjoys running around and being in the fresh air.

My neighbor has two pit bulls, inside the house all the time. Those dogs bark a lot more than my dog and you can hear them INSIDE my house. They are always at the window barking and clawing. I feel very bad for them, because they are left for 12 hours in a small house, then let out long enough to pee and poop, then back inside. I have never seen them taken for a walk or even a ride in the car. I don't think dogs(especially big dogs) are made to be confined in a small area for such a long time, but that's just me.

It's a bad rule to me, because many dogs are euthanized at our local shelter, and I would think they would be better off as outside dogs(properly cared for, of course) than dead.

My roommate's pit/Lab (we think) mix would much rather be inside unless someone is out with him because he prefers attention to anything else. On the other hand, his Weimeraner/Lab mix would probably prefer to be left outside (if we could fix the fence so he couldn't break the pickets and get out, which he has done several times before) because he just likes to chase lizards all day. I really think it depends on the dog. They are both shelter dogs, by the way.

Who is "owned" by Wayne Heyzinga's(sp?) wife, its in Dania and they had NO Dachshunds, which is what we wanted at the time. So, we got ours in Punta Gorda, thru a friend who knew the owner of a pet shop. We got 2 a boy and girl.;) They are now 7 and doing fine. We got them when they were 3 months old. I guess it must be pretty hard to adopt thru a shelter these days, and now the pet stores are racking up!:confused3

We were visiting my Dad a few years ago and went to Petsmart. It happened to be cat adoption day and DD fell in love with a cat-and so did Grandma. They almost didn't let them bring the cat home because we visited once/ year and DD was under 12 at the time. Since my Dad and Step-Mom had adopted from them before they let them take the cat. DD slept in Grandma and Grandpa's closet for 3 nights with the cat until the new cat got used to their other 2 cats. DD still sends Willow birthday cards. Willow sleeps with DD when we visit. She is such a danger to these cats???

I'm surprised. We are out of Petsmart, and as I said, our rule is, if the kitten is under 6 months, the child has to be 6 or older. We also have our 'rules' posted on petfinder..they have a little icon, that goes next to the younger kittens, not suitable for younger children. I've been lucky and not known any of the local rescue groups that would deny a cat to someone between 6 and 12, and even more so, an occasional visitor. I agree, that isn't right.

we got our last 2 kitties from Petsmart both times my daughter came with us and we had no problem (she was age 3 and 5 at the times)

Funny our last Kitty, "Spooky", was from a shelter in Chautauqua, NY -using Petsmart in PA for adoptions. No problem at all

The actual clinics and the cats in the cages at Petsmart are through individual rescue groups, and the rules are up to the individual groups. Many of them prefer not to adopt a kitten to people with very young children, but it's all subjective. I can't say no one from our group has ever adopted out to a person with a 4 year old, but we do have the rule in place for very good reasons. According to the info we get through Petsmart, they do not adopt out cats or dogs. They are very generous however with grants and space for rescue groups. Not only do they give us a bank of cages and a room, but they allow other groups to use the center aisle most weekends. They are a very generous store, and very much appreciated.
