I read that Bay Leaves and Mint leaves keep them away. My dad used to put self rising flour or grits on the ant mounds. I also read that cornstarch kills them. My backyard is sprinkled all over with grits and cornstarch right now.
I had the pest control come out to do an additional treatment around the back of the house because we had so many ants in our kitchen. He said the treatment would not harm my dog. They have not returned into the house, but I see them trailing on our back deck and now they are trailing in my garage.
