permanent Puerto Rico Pavilion at Epcot

I'm all for it but please include a ride! We have enough movies and enough character meet & greets! Make it a proper pavilion.

I would be cool with this. They have a really nice setup at this year's Food and Wine festival which went beyond just a kiosk. Really liked the FlanCocho!

I love the idea of a new pavilion, and PR would be a welcome addition. What I really like is the initiative by the country to make it happen. Did I read $100 Mil they're willing to invest? I'm not sure what a pavilion would cost to construct from scratch, but that's a heck of a lot more than other countries are investing ($0?).

Its not going to happen......this paper is just a random paper with hardly any sources. There is no one else in PR saying anything about this. Not to mention the country isn't the best finically to be sponsoring a pavilion.

Not saying its going to hapen, but it wouldn't be the country/government sponsoring the pavilion anyway (much like most of the original pavilions weren't sponsored by the nation's governments). It would be sponsored by a group of investors.

Puerto Rico is the most likely of US territory's to become the 51st state. There is no way Disney would include something that may eventually (even if it is a small chance in the far future) be a state of America into the WORLD showcase

If there is any truth to this rumor at all, it would be sponsored (i.e., paid for) by outside investors. Why would Disney ever say "no thanks" to that when there are six to eight open spots in the WS for other countries/cultures to come in? Seems pretty clear that over the last 30 years, no other "real" countries have shown enough interest to join the fun, and even if PR took one of those spots, there is still plenty of room for others to do so if those others suddenly get the urge. Let's say PR does become a U.S. state at some point...the culture is nothing like that of the typical American state that is theoretically represented by the American Adventure pavilion/show/restaurants. As such, it wouldn't fit there at all, so why not allow it to take its own spot in the WS? The food alone would be enough for me to support it....and nobody can argue that Epcot can't use all the help it can get right now.

Not to side track too much, but I believe the folks down there voted positively back in 2012 to take the next step to statehood. Something is apparently sitting in Congress now to approve. This brings up what qualifications a territory needs to be in World Showcase. As I mentioned above I don't see an issue with it, but it may not be 'proper' in terms of what Disney wants there.

Then again there's no movie tie-in with Puerto Rico (a.k.a no Frozen-type merch to take advantage of) so it seems unlikely.

But then where would they put the Guam, Virgin Islands, and District of Columbia pavilions?

So you're more against the possible addition of a sponsored pavilion for a U.S. territory that has an entirely different culture than that of the U.S. than you are of adding Frozen to Norway? Weird.

Ha! Excellent point, although it wouldn't be a stretch to base part of Pirates of the Caribbean V in Puerto Rico, as they've already used PR for some filming before and have talked about using it for this fifth edition, too.

San Juan has great architecture and a cool fort that could easily distinguish a pavilion, and PR and the Caribbean in general have great food. Throw in some laid back, Caribbean-style music and a bunch of rum-inspired drinks, and the pavilion builds itself.

(OK, I have now talked myself into the idea that this is going to be a great pavilion, and yet I recognize that this is a rumor, at best. Oh well...as long as Epcot needs serious help, I'm happy to help dream up ways to get it...you know, since Disney is always calling me for advice.)

Who said anything about being against the addition of a new pavilion? Now, what is more weird? Pretending someplace is a real country so it can have its own pavilion or blending a a pretend country into an already fake "real country" which is based off of the real country.

Actually given Disney's current mindset to put fantasy concepts into pavilions based on 'real' geographical locations your concept would fit perfectly into the 'New Epcot'.

I don't quite understand your negative attitude towards the project but I guess everyone has different opinions and we will have to agree to disagree..IMHO I don't see the big deal with PR be at the world showcase, and like I said before in another post the public will have to decide which country will be a best option.
I believe that we can help represent the beautiful traditions that all the Caribbean Islands have to offer. And I would love the Pirates of the Caribbean idea ! pirate:

Also don't think that my hometown will become a state yet, they are not ready to give up their independence.. And I don't believe that the pavilion will be fake country as long as they put the right elements in place..just my humble opinion.

Is this before the new Russian pavilion or after? Will it be next to the new Brazilian pavilion? I am still waiting for those rumors to happen :smokin:
