I get SOOOOOO depressed when I'm losing, losing, losing....then SMACK......gaining 1 lb., gaining another 2 lbs., more and more. And I haven't changed my eating habits at all.

It must be that time of the month!!!!!! But no matter how much I try to console myself and remind myself it will go back down, it doesn't help a whole lot and then I want to eat everything in SIGHT!!!!!

Anyone else do this?

Amy

I had the same problem kind of. I was eating fine and the scale said I gained a pound, and I had a semi tough weekend with a few little no-no's. But I weighed myself again, after my little friend left and I lost 2 pounds. Well, three including the pound that had been put on from like, water retention.

But don't worry about it. You can DO IT! Even if you eat that Nutter Butter that's staring you in the face. (Cookies are my weakness.)

When I start losing my cycle does weird things- it's bad enough mine come every 21 days not 28 like most- so if I start on the 1st I'm starting again on the 21st and mine last 5-7 days- so I really only have 2 weeks of non cycle!- My OB just says I'm one of "those"- I could regulate it with the pill she says but that increases my risk for breast tumors (fibrocystic) and I've already had one removed no thank you!
Anyway I digress, I thought I started on Friday and was hoping my retention would be gone by my weigh day on Tuesday. Well, the actual FLOW didn't show up until Monday night- so when I weighed I had only lost 2 pounds but had really stuck to my diet and added loads of exercise. It's Wednesday and I knew my breasts had gone way down because my cups were nowhere filling :) So I weighed in the afternoon with clothes on and I weighed another pound less! So I figure my water must drop alot the 2nd-3rd day of my flow. If you watch your cycle and chart when your water goes away- it may help you stay on your diet. I didn't cheat AT all and knew it was water weight keeping my pounds from showing their true colors. So try that and pick up the exercise around your cycle- this really helped curb any cravings I had.

Thanks for the quick replies! It helps!!! Tara, one of my best friends is just like that and always had extremely bad cramps, so she did take the pill, just so that her cramps would be a little more predictable.

I have never had a regular cycle, not even as a teenager....now I have had four children and have nursed each one of them for at least a year, so I think I am just now settling into somewhat of a routine. But it's a little longer than the 28 days I think. I have started noticing that I literally flip out for a day or so and then I'll start and go back to normal. DH and I have so much fun with this. I'm a mess and he just loves it and we laugh and do totally silly things together and with the kids. He really steps up when he sees me "going down" as we call it...because we both know that within a day or two it's over.

As far as the weight loss side, I try to get in lots more water and that does help. I had just reached the 5 lb mark since joining the WISH challenge...now I'm up 2 lbs...do I have to give up my 5 lb clippie???:( Of course, I didn't find the challenge until I'd already lost over 50 lbs....so I feel jipped.;)

Thanks,
Amy

I find that the week before TOM I usually hit some sort of plateau or slow down and then the week of TOM I usually have an okay loss.

When I first started losing weight I would have a plateau for a few days and then start losing again....but I did not correlate the two. Now that it's actually a weight gain, I've paid closer attention.

On a side note, I dug my senior prom dress out of my Mom's closet (she still had it at her house!) and tried it on and it actually zipped up!!!!!!! I FILLED it out and am MUCH curvier now, but I'm just excited I could walk around in it. My kids thought I had lost it for good!

My mind that is.....;)

I refuse to even weigh myself at that time. It's way too depressing.

Wow, fitting into your prom dress is really cool!!!! :)

Just try your best to stick with the plan while you are going through the TOM! :) I gain a bunch of water weight, and while it's depressing, I try to be as logical about it as I can be (yeah, right!)

I am looking into some type of PMS supplement (natural). If I find something that works, I'll post about it. My cycle has changed over the last few months. I used to be 28-30 days, now I am about 26-27 days (the joys of aging, I guess!) ;) I can deal with the cramps, but the water weight really bums me out!

Good luck and hang in there. Poor John and Dan, I hope they aren't reading this! ha ha!

:p They should count their blessings! Who knows, maybe they have one of us at home to deal with. Then I really do feel sorry for them.

As someone on a 21 day cycle, I sympathize! I, too, get mighty wiggy every two weeks. I'm in an emotional funk for about 1/2 of my cycle! (It is very apparent, even in my posts here:rolleyes: ) Nobody in my house takes me seriously, because they think I'm hormonal, as they call it. Honestly!

On a happier note, I don't let my weight gain at that time bother me too much. That is the primary reason I only count real loss on a monthly basis. I am just too sensitive to fluctuations in my cycle to let it get to me. One thing I have noticed, since I've been using Fitday, I have been watching my salt intake. That helped tremendously this month. Normally, I hold about 4 extra pounds. this month, only 2! (I also noticed I crave salt at this t.o.m.! go figure!) I am one of the few people I know, that is actually looking forward to menopause!:p Maybe we need to start a thread for the hormonally challenged! :p

Keep the Faith!

Heck, sweetie, I'm menopausal and I have weight gains from fluid retention. I have that today, now that you mention it.

I hate it but what can I do? I've always had a problem with this nasty fluid retention thing.

It always falls away eventually.

You are doing well, don't let this temporary gain discourage you, that is against WISH rules, you know ;)

You gals are cheering me up! And Katholyn.....I promise I won't break any rules!:D Any WISH rules anyway...:smooth:

Tracy...I crave salt too. LA Weight Loss suggests using the Morton Lite salt. It's part of their diet to make sure you get in enough potassium. So I make sure and snack on air-popped popcorn with butter spray and the lite salt....YUM!

I know, I was trying to think of a way to bring the subject up, I had my 2nd weigh in today (my 1st week of trying WW) and of course I'm due tomorrow:mad: I did still have a loss of .8 of a pound. I so hope next week I have a pleasant surprise.
