Percentage of no-shows

I was surprised when I read about "throwaway" reservations at FW....especially that there are actually threads on this site that encourage it. Does anyone know what the percentages of empty sites are with this practice? Does it really keep people from getting reservations? Is it the reason those of us who camp can't take advantage of room discounts and free dining?

I'm not trying to start any arguments, obviously Disney is aware of it and allowing it to happen, but with the prices going up so that we're paying almost as much as a resort room it seems that those who camp are being penalized.

It sounds like you've been around various forums for awhile. You know how every forum community has a few hot button issues that are like a 3rd rail? You know, Ford vs Chevy on a truck forum. Jeff vs JR on a NASCAR forum.

Well, the "throwaway" is one of those on here. No matter how civil and sincere it starts, things usually go down hill pretty fast. Hence, Chris' smiley.

So please don't take it personally if not many of us reply.

A quick summary of the percentage question is it's hard to tell. There are some times of year it is difficult to get a reservation due to availability and it seems like there are quite a few empty sites. Other times the place is packed. Sometimes the Fort takes sites or loops out for maintenance or rehab. Sometimes it could be inconsiderate, opportunistic, self centered...

I have been known to stir a pot or two....but only when it's something I'm passionate about. Back when they started the Salute to the Military they weren't clear on what "retiree" meant. My husband retired from the Marine Reserves, but since he wasn't 60 at the time he was considered "gray area". I got multiple different answers and finally pulled a string from a cousin who worked for Disney to talk to someone higher up. In the long run, they made the decision to include gray area retirees and now he's 60 so it's not a big deal. When a campsite costs me the same or more than a hotel room, but excludes me from discounts that I would get with those hotel rooms, I get passionate.

I'm with tiggerdad. This never ends well. It's not a big enough problem for Disney even though they're aware of it.

I second the lock option, based on prior discussions. I mean absolutely no offense to the OP and DO NOT think she was trying to start anything bad. However, folks who typically never post on the camping forum start showing up like buzzards and usually turn this topic into a hornet's nest poking.

Oh, and FYI, I got 10 points on that warning. Which I thought was pretty good. I mean, that's like kicking a field goal, then immediately getting the ball right back and scoring a touchdown.

I understand, and I think Teamubr probably summed it up as best as any of us could have. Its just that others tend to use it as an opportunity to try and get people worked up and in trouble.

Absolutely not. No discounts because they stay full all the time, no shows or not. And no free dining because there is a 10 person limit to each site. That's a lot of mouths to feed free. Now that you have answers I'm gonna close this as requested.
